Your Best MLM Distributors Won’t Need You or Your MLM System

Leaders do things differently than followers.  That’s why they are leaders.  In the world of network marketing, the best people you sponsor won’t need you and they won’t need your system or motivation. They will have their own way of doing things (because they are a leader), they will be self-motivated and they will be a person of ACTION.

It’s your job to identify these people, give them the resources they ask for, and get out of their way so you don’t mess anything up.  If anything, plug them into the most successful person in your upline as soon as possible and let them work with them.

These folks will be less than 1% of your organization, so this won’t be a normal thing to deal with.  But when you sponsor a leader your organization can literally explode overnight.

This doesn’t mean you should ignore your leaders or not offer them your system.  It just means they probably won’t NEED or WANT either of those things from you.  So if they don’t want your help or don’t want to use your system, don’t be MAD.  If anything, be thankful!

The best people I’ve ever sponsored were not DEPENDENT of me.  They took responsibility for their own business, typically from day one.  Yes, they asked for some initial training and guidance, but after that, they were off to the races, getting it done.  The only thing I had to do was login to my back office to see what they were doing.  If they had a question or wanted help with something, they would ask.

If I had to boil it down into a single statement, I would say that “leaders don’t need you and they don’t need your system.”  If anything, all they want from you is a bit of encouragement, someone to be their friend, and someone to bounce ideas around with.  That’s it.  Be their friend and then be smart enough to get the HECK out of their way!

Followers are looking for a leader to follow.

Leaders are looking for someone who is a leader to team up with, but more importantly someone to be a friend and share ideas with.

For some folks, this is common sense.  Others really mess this up.

The bottom line is that leaders are the people who normally do really well in MLM.  If you are ever lucky enough to sponsor a leader personally, or find one in your downline, make sure that you follow the advice in this article.

Be accessible.  Offer advice.  Offer them your system.

But don’t take it personal if they want to do things their own way and if they don’t need or want your help.

If you find a leader, be thankful and go look for some more leaders to sponsor!  That is how you will take your business to the next level.

  1. Am I the only one who notices that you ever only get a handful, normally less, of these self-starters in your business? I wish this were not the case, but it is a truth I have come to accept. It just makes me more appreciative for the small few who do take the initiative to grow their own segment of the business. It takes some of the stress off of me personally and makes me proud to know I have sponsored someone who is motivated and committed much like myself.

  2. You must be flexible in your network marketing business. You are leading a team and you want them to follow your action plan but this may not happen all the time. There will be some leaders within your group who would work in their own way but as far as they are performing and giving you results; you should let them work as they want to. You may not intervene and give advice when it is not required. Instead, raise their spirits and boost their morale.

    1. Yes, when you sponsor someone really good, or find them in depth on your team, you should be their biggest cheerleader. Most “go getters” will want to do it their own way and they really won’t need your help or motivation. That’s the beauty of this business. A few good people like that can really help take your business to the next level.

  3. It is so easy to get caught into a quagmire of thinking our way is the only way that works. What happens is we get a strong individual who is taking the Network Marketing by storm. We then notice they are doing something different than the way we do it. We tell them to change, and suddenly their numbers drop. The best answer is: Don’t fix something that is working.
