Which MLM Opportunity Should You Choose?

Which MLM Opportunity should you choose?  This is a million dollar question that I get asked about ten times per week from people who visit my website.

Let me start by telling you that there are HUNDREDS of good network marketing companies to partner up with.  I know most distributors play the back and fourth game of saying “my company is better than that company” but the truth is you have lots of good options.

Yes, some companies are better than others.  And yes, all network marketing companies have good and bad things about them.  No company is perfect.  But, I do believe there is a simple process you should go through before you pick a company to partner with.

After all, picking a good company is very important.  And you should definitely do your due diligence BEFORE you get started.

I’m going to share some of my best tips in the paragraphs below to help you choose the right company for you.  These are just some tips I have learned during the past 12 years, mostly through trial and error.

# 1 The Products – I truly believe the products are the most important thing in the decision making process.  You must be passionate about the products if you want to sell them to others.  If the products don’t make sense to you nothing else will.  They must also present a REAL VALUE at the retail price to people OUTSIDE of the opportunity.  There should also be a decent wholesale-retail markup.  What I tell most people to do is to start out as a customer first. If you are a happy customer, there is a good chance you will be a happy distributor.

# 2 The Compensation Plan – You must be rewarded for your efforts.  You want to be rewarded fairly for personal sales or referrals and you want to get paid on MANY levels on your team.  Find out what percentage of sales the company pays to distributors and how it is divided.  Make sure it is a BALANCED plan and not just designed for the heavy hitters.  You want something that will reward you fairly, even with part-time efforts.

# 3 The Company Reputation – How long has the company been around?  I personally would never join a company less than five years old.  I am not a fan of start-ups.  In addition, what is the online reputation of your company?  How many distributors or former distributors are unloading products on Amazon or eBay?  How much negative stuff is there about your company online?  Yes, I understand all companies have to deal with these things, but if it is excessive, I would find a different company.  You don’t want to partner with a company where people hear the name and think scam or think badly.

# 4 The Distributor Agreement – This is a big one that most people overlook.  Read the distributor agreement in ENTIRETY before you join, so you know what you can and cannot do.  Most companies treat their distributors like crap.  They make tons of rules limiting what the distributor can do online and offline to build their business.  They prevent them from having multiple streams of income.  Just know what you are getting yourself into before you join the company.

I want to close this post with three final thoughts.  First and foremost, joining a certain MLM Company should be a MAJOR decision, not some random thing.  Before you start any business of your own, put some thought into it.  Ask a lot of questions.  Come up with a game plan.  Do your due diligence.  That’s what smart business people do.

Next, choose your mentor wisely.  Once you have found a company you can get passionate about, spend a lot of time looking for a good sponsor.  Don’t let your sponsor choose you. Choose your sponsor.  Find someone who is committed and who knows what the heck they are doing (and is willing to help you). The sponsor you pick is just as important as the company you join.

Finally, you can succeed or fail in any company.  Just because you pick a good company doesn’t mean you will be a success story.  Ultimately, your key to success is the person looking back at you in the mirror!  Working with the right MLM Opportunity helps, but it is not the KEY to success.

Final Thoughts

Which MLM Opportunity should you choose?  There is no right answer.  The best advice I can give you is to find a company with products you are passionate about.  Make sure the compensation plan is fair.  Evaluate the company’s reputation online and study the distributor agreement.  Do ALL of these things BEFORE you join and you should be set.  Just don’t rush into the decision.

What are your thoughts about picking the right MLM Opportunity?  Leave a comment below to let me know what you think.  I look forward to hearing from you.

You mentioned starting out as a customer. I totally agree. I believe a person should try the products before deciding on whether to distribute them. During this time, I also think it wise to check all sources for information on the company. You should know how the compensation plan works. You should also search out both negative and positive reviews. That doesn’t mean you take every review as being the way every person feels, but you weigh the good and bad. If after all of this, you feel a desire to distribute, and you are excited at the opportunity, I say go for it.

All four tips mentioned for choosing an MLM business opportunity are critical and no one should enter into ANY kind of business without considering these four things. Number 1 is my pick for most crucial point to research before making a decision. If you don’t have a great interest in what you’re selling and believe in its effectiveness 100%, you won’t be an effective salesperson or representative for that product. Can you imagine someone trying to sell a product that they themselves didn’t believe in? Good luck convincing customers!

It is 100% true that you have to choose the right product. Personally, I know that if I am not passionate about the product/service I am selling then there is no way I can promote it effectively. This means anything I promote is something I use and am pleased with myself. That provides a level of credibility when you’re trying to sell the product because people feel they can trust it if you use it too.

I appreciate how, in your blog, you emphasize over and over that choosing an MLM is not a decision to be made lightly. So many MLM recruiters stress that it is so easy and/or cheap to join their organization, that you almost have to say “yes” to the opportunity. But most of the time, the quicker the decision is made, the less committed the recruit is. If one is serious about pursuing MLM business as a career, they need to do their homework, take their time and make an intelligent, informed decision. If they don’t, they aren’t reading your blog.

No one should EVER rush into ANY kind of business. Smart entrepreneurs do their due diligence and research to educate themselves properly. That last thing you want to do is RUSH into a business without knowing what you are getting yourself into! MLM is no different. Treat it like a real business decision right from day one.

Rushing things and not planning can be the biggest threat to having a successful business. I was part of team starting a new business and the CEO kept pushing us to grow faster and expand into more area- and she never brought in more people or got us better equipment and resources. it ended in a massive fireball and the business no longer exists. So I have seen first hand the dangers of rushing growth.

With so many MLM opportunities, it is really a tough task to choose one. There are many good options and at the same time bad ones as well. Out of all the tips shared here for choosing right company, the most appealing one for me is that a happy customer has a good chance to become happy distributor. Before you make your decision for joining a MLM company, you must do a complete research and diligence. It is extremely important for your own reputation as well.

I think starting out as a customer first is some of the best advice I can give anyone. If you love the products and are passionate about them, there is a good chance you will do well as a distributor, too.
