Today, I want to share my top 30 Jordan Adler quotes and also provide a book review of Beach Money. Although I am in no way affiliated with Jordan Adler, or his network marketing company, I have tremendous respect for this guy. He is one of the most respected leaders and trainers in our industry and he does a lot to give our industry a good name. Jordan is an ambassador to our industry.
I just finished reading his book, Beach Money last night, and I couldn’t put it down. It was amazing, a must read for any new or experienced network marketer. While reading the book, I highlighted a bunch of quotes and passages that really resonated with me.
What I would like to do is share my top 30 favorite Jordan Adler quotes from his book, Beach Money, and also provide my insight for each quote. Each quote is in bold and italics. My two cents is provided immediately after each quote. They are listed by where I found them in the book.
# 1 Consider writing the story of your future life in the present tense, as if it has already happened. Map out the life that you want to have. Spend a few hours and write out your eulogy. Write who you want to be, what you want to achieve and what you want your legacy to be. There’s something powerful about writing down your goals on paper. After you write it down, post a copy on your bathroom mirror and on the fridge and make sure you read it once each day.
# 2 Hesitation can cause any business to stall. It’s tough to attract customers when you are doubtful about your enterprise. You must have 100% belief in yourself, your products, company and the industry if you want to succeed. People will know if you don’t believe in what you are doing. People are naturally attracted to confident people with a strong vision. Be that person.
# 3 Even mediocre businesses can become wildly successful if the leadership team has an unwavering belief in its crusade. Success in business starts with a big vision. Make sure you know WHY you are doing what you are doing. Share your WHY with other people. Tell your story.
# 4 In the business of recruiting you’ll need to be prepared to recruit 20 to 30 people. Most top earners sponsor twenty to thirty people personally, in order to find a few business builders and get their business of the ground and create some momentum. To make the big bucks, you will need to personally sponsor three or four times that many distributors (in most cases). If you haven’t sponsored at least 30 people personally, you haven’t really started your business.
# 5 One third of your recruits will do absolutely nothing. One third will do a little. And one third will make a good income. Usually one of them will build a group of thousands. Sponsor twenty people to find one warrior and a few serious people. No matter what you do, not everyone you sponsor will build the business and achieve success. Your job is not to make people successful, but to find people who are willing to do whatever it takes to become successful.
# 6 All the energy and time you put into trying to get your weaker team members to grow is time wasted. You are better off using that time to help your motivated distributors and to recruit a few new people to get started in the business. Focus on helping people who want to help themselves. You can’t want success for someone more for someone than they want it for themselves. Never build someone’s team for them or do for them what they should be doing for themselves.
# 7 I see many young entrepreneurs struggle with the fundamentals of growth in a network marketing company. Their biggest problem is leaning too heavily on the Internet and technology to build the business. The internet will not solve your problems in your business. This business is about relationships. Yes, you can meet someone online, but take that relationship offline as quickly as possible. The best way to build your MLM business is still offline (face to face). It’s a proven fact. You have to roll up your sleeves and do the work. You can’t hide behind a computer and expect much to happen.
# 8 You must have a plan and stick with it for eighteen to twenty-four months. You need a game plan and discipline for your business. That is the key to success. There is no such thing as instant success. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
# 9 Sixty to ninety percent of the people you show your opportunity to will probably be uninterested. Most people will not be interested in your business or your products. Your job is not to try and convince them, but to find people who are looking. Your key is to sift and sort through people until you find people who are open minded and looking for what you have to offer.
# 10 Regardless of how financially tough your situation is, you can turn it around in eighteen to twenty-four months with a consistent plan. With concentrated, focused effort, you can create financial independence with network marketing within 2 years or less. In order to do this you must have a game plan and work your ass off.
# 12 Your mind is a powerful computer. It controls how you feel and how you feel determines what you attract. Your mind does not know the difference between what is real and what is not. Your mind will believe whatever you program it to believe. Put negative in and you will get negative. Put positive in and you will get positive. Make sure you spend as much time feeding your brain as you do feeding your body.
# 13 If you identify yourself as successful and really believe it, you’ll begin to attract success. What you think is what you get. We attract what we are not what we want.
# 14 Sometimes the most difficult experiences in your life can bring you the greatest gifts. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Setbacks and challenges happen to everyone. It’s what you learn from these experiences that matter most. Always get up one more time than you fall down.
# 16 Your network will become your most valuable resource. Your list is your greatest asset, not your MLM Company or team. Your number one priority is to focus on building a bigger network and improving your relationship with your network.
# 17 A contact manager containing 500 contacts is worth millions of dollars to you if you manage it effectively. My contact manager is the most important tool I have. Always focus on building your list and building a strong relationship with them. The money is in the list.
# 18 Successful business owners know that their lifelong association with someone is far bigger than the sale. Don’t think of prospects, distributors and leads as a one night stand. Think of their life-time value to your business. Look at them as multiple purchases and referrals over the course of a life-time.
# 19 Your job when sponsoring someone is to simply get them started. It is not your job to manage them. Teach people what to do and let them decide whether or not they will do it. You are not your downline’s boss or manager. You simply need to do their initial training with them and show them how to get started.
# 20 I don’t recommend on sponsoring more than one per week if you plan on doing a good job getting your new distributors started. Recruiting new people is important, but it’s even more important to spend some time with them and help them get started right. If you recruit too many people too fast you won’t be able to work with them or help them get started the right way.
# 21 Be careful about crippling your group by always doing it for them. Never do something for someone that they could do for themselves. You do not want to create a welfare mentality in your group.
# 22 Your goal is to replace yourself quickly. You don’t want your team to depend upon you. Use systems to free up your time and help your team become independent of you as soon as possible.
# 23 One big myth about network marketing is that you need to be very good at sales to succeed. Being a salesperson can hold you back in network marketing. Network marketing is about a lot of people doing a little, not a few people doing a lot. Your real key to success is sponsoring a few people, getting a few customers and then helping them do the same.
# 24 Start surrounding yourself with other like minded people right away. Make friends with other entrepreneurs. The power of association is huge. Hang around successful people who lift you up, encourage you, inspire you, and have what you want in life. Avoid negative people like your life depends upon it. Show me your five closest friends and I can show you what you will be like and how much you will earn.
# 25 Make friends to make friends, not to get business. Don’t try to make friends just so you can recruit them. Build a friendship first and everything else will fall into place.
# 26 Teams that play together stay together. There is nothing like getting together with a bunch of people who share a common vision. Don’t forget to have fun in your business. People want to have fun. Take the time to celebrate success and reward your team.
# 27 I was once told by a top income earner that for each person I have at a company convention, I could multiply my group by 100 one year later. Get people to live events. Great things happen at events. Events build enthusiasm and belief. The more people you can to attend events, the faster your team will grow. Learn more about the power of events.
# 28 I have budgeted five percent of my income for personal development. Make sure that you set aside a portion of your income every month to develop your skill-set and mind-set. Buy books, audio programs, business coaching and go to seminars. Never stop learning. Invest in your business education.
# 29 The journey to success almost never unfolds the way you expect it to. Success is never a straight line. Instead, it is a series of zig-zags. Keep your goals constant and in front of you, but be flexible about the path you take to get there.
# 30 Leadership is the most valuable skill you can have for creating Beach Money. Ultimately, the greatest and most important skill you can take the time to develop is your leadership skills. Learn how to build teams, lead people and manage problems as they arise.
What I Like About the Book
What I like most about Beach Money is that it is really easy to read. It’s fun and entertaining. Jordan does a great job sharing his failures and victories in network marketing. He covers what went right, what went wrong, and what finally got him over the hump. There isn’t much fluff in the book either. He keeps things on topic and to the point. He provides specific details and also shares the 30,000 foot view of MLM Success.
Beach Money was first published in 2008. It was updated with a second edition in 2012. Authored by Jordan Adler and published by Eagle One Publishing, you can buy it in paperback or on Kindle. The book features 130 pages.
