Today, I want to educate you about the difference between passive vs. active recruiting techniques for network marketers. I also want to share some tips on how to do each strategy effectively.
First off, let me define the difference between the two.
Passive recruiting is something you do one time and it continues to generate leads for you, long after you have finished doing it.
On the other hand, active recruiting means you have to keep doing the activity over and over to keep generating leads.
From personal experience, I can tell you that both methods work very well AND you should use both active and passive recruiting strategies to grow your network marketing business.

Passive Recruiting Strategies for Network Marketers
Here are some example passive recruiting strategies:
# 1 YouTube Videos: You could create your own YouTube Channel for a specific target audience. Basically, you are branding yourself and educating and entertaining people at the same time. At the end of each video you could have a specific call to action for your viewers. You could have them visit your website, give you a call or send you an email to request more information about what you do.
# 2 Podcasts: Podcasts are a wonderful way to spread the word. You could pick a subject matter that interests you, and relates to your product or business opportunity. At the end of each podcast, you could have a call to action telling your viewers what you want them to do. You could also talk about your products or business a little bit during each show. # 3 Guest Post: This is a great way to get your name out there IF you can find a successful blogger who accepts guest posts. Many do. Many do not. The beauty of this method is you can write an EPIC blog post and have it generate leads for you each day for many years to come. The real key to success is to find a highly successful blog with lots of traffic, and then to write an article that really over delivers and provides a ton of value. Ultimately, you are trying to showcase your talents and leadership ability to potential prospects, so they can see what you are all about.
# 4 Blog Comments: This is a very easy way to generate leads for your network marketing business. With this method, you simply leave 2-5 blog comments each day on different blogs, and provide a link to your capture page. Assuming your comments are great quality and engaging, some people will click on your link and visit your website or capture page. Whatever you do, do not send people directly to your company’s replicated website. Instead, send them to a capture page first, so you can collect their email. If you left five blog comments a day for a year, you would have more than 1,800 links pointing to your capture page.
# 5 Forum Comments: You could find a couple forums online and create a profile and then engage in the community. Most forums let you provide a signature with a link to your website. If you can become an active participant and provide quality questions, answers and responses in the forum, many people will check out your link. Just don’t be a spammer and pitch your business in the forum.
# 6 Bumper Sticker or Window Sticker: This is a very simple PASSIVE recruiting technique to get more leads for your MLM Business. You can have a custom car window sticker made for less than $100. Whatever you do, do not make one specifically for your MLM Company. Instead, focus on the curiosity approach and send people to a sizzle line or capture page first. Have a sticker about working from home, making extra money, or start a new career.
# 7 Car Magnet: This works just like the window sticker does. You can have a nice custom car magnet made for less than $50. This is a very simple way to generate leads while you drive around town running errands and just living life.
Active Recruiting Strategies for Network Marketers
Here are some active recruiting strategies:
# 1 Postcards: I love postcards. Ever since the internet has gained in popularity, more and more people have abandoned direct mail to focus on the internet. This is a good thing for you. This is practically a competition free zone right now and it is proven and effective. I like postcards because they are simple, easy to do and affordable.
# 2 Classified Ads: Classified ads still work. You just have to get creative and not use a standard MLM type ad. Instead, use a two-step selling process and give away some free information and then let your information do the selling for you.
# 3 Facebook Posts: I personally have never cracked the code using Facebook to grow my MLM Business, but many people have. If it’s something you want to do, buy a course on how to do it and then follow that technique exclusively. Whatever you do, don’t spam your link on people’s wall or tag people in your posts. It’s a quick way to annoy people and burn through your warm market.
# 4 Twitter: I have a friend, Mr. Erik Johnson, who does a great job recruiting through Twitter. He’s built up a big following through the years and sends out Tweets each day. # 5 Face to Face Prospecting: If you are an extrovert and enjoy talking to people, I still believe this is a very effective way to find new leads for your business. Some people love this strategy and others hate it. That being said, you should always keep your eyes and ears open for sharp people that you come in contact with on a daily basis.
# 6 Cold Calling: I would rather pull out my fingernails one by one then do cold calls. That being said, I know of plenty of people who have done very well in our industry following this approach. The key to success is to develop a good script, find a good lead source and educate yourself about the DO NOT CALL list so you don’t get yourself in trouble.
# 7 Drop Cards & Sizzle Cards: I am a big fan of drop cards. This is something bigger than a business card and slightly smaller than a postcard. In many cases, they are designed to look like a $20 bill or $100 bill. You simply print your message on the card and then you leave them in places as you are out and about living life.
# 8 Business Cards: The purpose of a business card is to get someone else’s business card. Never forget that. You should have some nice custom business cards made up for your business. Pay the extra money and get a good quality card. Remember, first impressions are everything. You don’t want a flimsy business card that looks boring and amateurish.
# 9 Public Speaking: I know that most people fear public speaking more than they fear death, but this is quite perhaps the best lead generation tip on this list IF you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and do it! Find local organizations in your community and speak about topics that are related to your products, services or business opportunity. Do not make your talk a big pitch for your business. Instead, deliver a good speech and generate leads at the event and then follow up with people on your own.
# 10 Events: Events such as trade shows and flea markets are a great way to get leads. They can be expensive and time consuming, but the real beauty is that you have hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people who come to you first. If you are on a tight budget, go to the event as a participant, rather than as a vendor.
My Best Advice
My best advice for you is to pick one active and one passive recruiting technique on this list and focus on them exclusively. Do NOT spread yourself too thin and try to do too many things at once. That is a recipe for disaster and frustration. Instead of using the shotgun approach, use the sniper approach and focus.
