Top 10 Tips to Build Your MLM Business This Year: How to Have the Best Year Ever

In today’s post, I want to share 10 things you should do to build your MLM Business this year, and to have the best year ever in your business.  As a piece of advice, don’t wait until January 1st to start this either.  Start today!  Let your 12 months be 12 months from today. Let’s get started!

1. Add 730 people to your prospect list

For most network marketers, their biggest challenge is having someone to share their products and business opportunity with.  I’m here to help change that.  Starting tomorrow, make it a point to contact two people per day, EVERY DAY.  While you are out and about living life, stick out your hand and introduce yourself to people.  Strike up a friendly conversation with others and focus on building a friendship.  Show a genuine interest in other people.  Be likeable.  When you are finished talking, get the person’s business card or contact information, add them to your rolodex.  Within 48 hours, send them and email or note to tell them you enjoyed meeting them.  Include your business card with it.  If the timing is right, introduce them to your products or business opportunity.  If not, just keep focusing on building a friendship and stay in touch until the timing is right.

2. Conduct 150 business presentations

Assuming you follow the advice I mentioned above, you will have 730 people to talk to about your business opportunity or products.  Your goal is to do 150 business presentations this year.  That is just three presentations per week, assuming you take a two week vacation.  If you can show that many presentations, you will sponsor a lot of people and get a lot of customers.  To do three appointments per week you will probably need to schedule five appointments.  You can do this during lunch hour, at an in home party, or even online.  Face to face is ideal, but if that doesn’t work you should leverage technology.

3.  Get 50 new customers

If you’re prospecting and showing the plan like I just discussed, you should find plenty of customers. Make it a point to find ONE new customer a week this year.  That alone will make your business profitable and give you money to advertise and generate more leads.  What you want by the end of the year are 10-20 customers who order every month.  If you can find 50 throughout the year, you won’t have a problem finding those 10-20 good customers.

4. Attend four seminars/events and your company function

During my time in Amway, I learned the importance of attending live events.  Events build excitement and enthusiasm in your team.  At a BARE BONES minimum attend your company’s annual event this year.  In addition, I suggest you attend some type of generic network marketing event every 90 days.  This lets you rub elbows with other network marketers and it teaches you new skills.  It also keeps you excited.  If you can’t find other network marketing events to attend, consider attending business seminars, the Dale Carnegie Course, Toastmasters, or something similar.

5. Hold 24 Nuts & Bolts” training for your team

Twice a month, hold a Nuts and Bolts training session with your team.  This is where you teach them how to order the products, how to do presentations, how to schedule appointments, how to sponsor people, etc.  Simply put, it’s the “details” of the business.  It’s really important that you help your new distributors get started right.

6. Read 52 books

Leaders are readers and readers are leaders.  You already know that.  Make it a point to read at least one book a week, every week.  If you read 20 to 30 minutes every day, this won’t be a problem. Never go a day without reading, ever.  If you make time to feed your body every day, make sure you make the time to feed your brain.  Read books about network marketing, sales, marketing, people skills, leadership, entrepreneurship and a variety of other personal development and business related subjects.  If I had to credit one thing to my success in life, it is my discipline to read every day.

7. Listen to 275 hours of cassettes or videos about MLM and Business

Enroll in auto university today!  If you commute to work, listen to educational CDs on the way to work.  The last time I checked you never earned a penny for listening to the radio.  Buy some good audio programs and listen to them over and over.  At a minimum, listen to them to and from work and whenever you are driving around.  If you do this, you should be able to listen to two to three programs per week.  If money is tight, get everyone on your team to buy 2-3 different audio programs and then switch them up with each other.  You can also get these audio programs from your local library.

8. Send one note a day

There’s something magical about sending cards and notes to others.  This is a great way to connect with your prospects AND customers AND team members.  Write notes to tell people you appreciate them.  Write notes to tell people that you believe in them.  Write to prospects to see if there is any way YOU can HELP them!  Focus on others and it will come back to you ten-fold, maybe more.

9. Send out a monthly newsletter

Nobody ever follows this advice when I share it, but I keep preaching it anyway.  Start a newsletter for your team.  Pick a day of the month when you will send it and send it on the same day every month.  Recognize distributor achievements, introduce new team members, explain one of the products and share a few tips.  This lets you keep in touch with your downline and customers on a regular basis and is also a great way to convert some of your prospects into distributors and/or customers.  Every time you send out a newsletter, your volume will increase.

10. Find a Mentor

Find a mentor in your upline who is successful and willing to help you.  Humble yourself, listen to them, and PLEASE do what they tell you.  Don’t think you have a better way.  Follow their lead until you pass them and become more successful.  If you can’t find someone in your upline, look outside of your company to find a mentor.  There are plenty of successful distributors who coach others, even people outside of their own team.

BONUS TIP: Keep a journal

As a special bonus tip, I would ask you to keep a journal.  Write in your journal every day.  Discuss what went right, what went wrong, and what you can improve.  This will be a very valuable resource one day, perhaps your memoirs.

Final Thoughts

In summary, these are my best 10 tips on what you should do to build your MLM Business this year.  There is no doubt in my mind that if you follow this advice you will be well on your way to achieving the life you’ve always dreamed of in your network marketing business.

These are some great tips, Chuck. If you want to have the best year ever in your business, you really need to set some goals and take massive action in your business. You must do what you have never done before: sell out to your business and do whatever it takes to succeed.

Wow! 150 business presentations is a lot, especially if you have a family to take care of. I wonder how men and women do in the same circumstances, if women find that home responsibilities put a ceiling on how good a living they can make in MLM. Men and women are still out of sync with how much they do at home.

      Faith,

150 presentations is simply 3 per week. Using technology, you don’t even have to leave your own home to do it. You can send someone a video or DVD and let that do the presenting for you, so it isn’t all that time consuming.
