What are the best MLM Tools? In my opinion, there are a few network marketing tools that all network marketers MUST have and use. These MLM Tools apply whether you are building your business online or offline.
What is a Tool?
Before I explain what an MLM Tool is, let me define the word tool. Here are two definitions I found online.
An implement, especially one held in the hand, as a hammer, saw or file, for preparing or facilitating mechanical operations. Source
or…
A tool can be a physical object such as mechanical tools including saws and hammers or a technical object such as a web authoring tool or software program. Furthermore, a concept can also be considered a tool.
In my own words, a MLM tool is any product, resource or item that helps you grow your business and work smart.
Top 10 MLM Tools
With that being said, listed below are some of my favorite MLM Tools, in no particular order.
# 1: Your Personal Story
Of all of the MLM Tools I can think of, NONE OF THEM are as important or as powerful as your own personal story. This includes your personal story using the products (how they’ve helped you) and your personal success story with the business.
This is why it is vital that you are your own best customer AND you get off to a fast start in the business. Facts tell, but stories sell. Your prospects will remember the stories you tell them, but they probably won’t remember all of the facts and details. That’s why you want to use stories with your prospects whenever possible.
# 2: Capture Page & Auto Responder
The second business tool you need is your own capture page and auto-responder. You want your own simple capture page that you can promote online and offline (and on your marketing materials), so you can build up your own email list.
A capture page is a simple one-page website where people type in their name and email to get more information. What you see below is an example capture page.
You want to promote a capture page rather than promoting your company’s replicated website. Why? Because it makes you different from all of your company’s other reps, and because most company websites don’t do a very good job with capturing leads.
Plus, it allows you to build up your email list so you can stay in touch with your leads and automate the follow up process.
# 3: Day Planner
Every network marketer should have their own day planner. You want to plan out your week each week. Every Sunday night, sit down somewhere quiet for 20 to 30-minutes and plan out the upcoming week. Schedule in your job time, family time, religious time and other commitments. Block those activities off first.
Once complete, look at all the remaining time and come up with your work schedule for your MLM Business. This will keep you organized and help you work smart.
# 4: Upline Mentor
Your upline mentor is one of your most important MLM Tools. This may or may not be your sponsor. It’s the first person in your upline who is SUCCESSFUL and willing to help you.
This person can teach you the ropes, help you do three-way calls, and help you get started right. I always tell people, spend more time researching sponsors than you do researching which company to join. Who you work with has a vital impact on your long-term success in the industry.
Having a successful mentor to bounce ideas off is much better than trying to figure out everything on your own.
# 5: Samples
Depending on what type of network marketing company you are involved with, I highly recommend product samples. Keep these samples with you at all times.
Don’t just randomly hand samples out. If you want to be wise, sell them. The person will value it more.
Furthermore, never give someone a product sample without getting their contact information first. That way you can stay in touch and follow up with them at your convenience.
If your company has great products, and most MLM Companies do, the samples can help pre-sell your prospect.
# 6: Library
You want to start building up your own business library. This should include books, audio programs and courses about network marketing, entrepreneurship, sales, marketing and leadership. These are materials you study and review from time-to-time.
Every successful network marketer I’ve met has their own business library. You should too!
# 7: Contact Manager
Everyone needs a contact manager. You might use a roladex. Or, some type of index card filing system. You could even use an MS Excel Spreadsheet or a notebook.
I use a program called STAT TRAK ADDRESS PRO. For a one time fee of about $30, you can keep all of your prospects in one place. It stores the mailing addresses, emails, notes on the person, phone numbers and much more.
You need a way to stay organized. You want to build up a large database of everyone you ever come in talk to about the products or business. This will become your most valuable tool, over a period of time.
# 8: Prospecting Tool
You need some type of prospecting tool you can give to your prospects. This could be a drop card, business card, brochure, DVD, CD, flyer, or something else.
The information should be generic and not have your company name on it. It should have a simple marketing message, your URL to your capture page, your email address and your phone number.
Of all these options, drop cards are my favorite prospecting tool. You can also carry around blank index cards and when you meet someone, have them write down their name, email and phone number on your index card, and then you follow up with them at a future date and time.
# 9: Clothing & Accessories
Every network marketer should wear clothing, to include t-shirts, hats, buttons, pinback buttons, sweaters, car magnets, car stickers and more. Wear these items when you are out and about living life.
Whatever you do, do NOT put your company name or logo on it. Instead, keep it generic.
- If you sell CBD Oil, have a shirt made up that says: “Got CBD Oil? I Sell It. Ask Me Your Questions!”
- If you sell coffee, have a hat that says: Drink Coffee. Get Paid!
These two examples will definitely get someone’s attention. When you see someone staring at your clothing or one of your accessories, hand them your drop card and tell them to check out your website. It’s that simple.
# 10: Presentation Tool
You need a way to share business presentations with your prospects without you being the one to do it. You want to remove yourself from the equation and be the messenger, not the message.
Ideally, you want to use a webinar, recorded conference call, video, or sizzle call to give presentations. This makes your life easier. You simply direct people to third-party tools and they do the heavy lifting for you.
Final Thoughts
Tools are important in every type of business. Could you imagine a carpenter trying to build a house without any tools? It simply wouldn’t work.
Network marketing is no different. If you want to build a successful MLM Business, you need to have your own MLM Tools, which allow you to work smart while leveraging your time and effort. My favorite MLM Tools were listed above.
If you’ve been involved in this great industry for any period of time, you might even use some different tools. If that is the case, I would love to hear from you. Please share some of the MLM Tools that you use and recommend, with the rest of our online community. Leave a comment below to let me know what you think.

I do believe that having a website or blog can also be a helpful tool. Blogging shows your intensity and level of knowledge about the MLM you are with. You can use this hand-in-hand with your newsletter and contact manager.
I believe business cards are an absolute must. A Day planner can be a life saver too.
Lastly, I do believe product samples can be a huge business builder. People will join if they try out some of the products you have.
Samples are very important.
I absolutely agree that all of these tools are a must have for any network marketer. The newsletter is great, and a blog may be a good idea also.
I believe prospecting CDs should always be in your possession for easy hand out, along with a good variety of samples.
There are a few of your tools I think can be combined though. This would come in owning a tablet. It could take care of the voice recorder and the webcam for videos. You can use it as a day planner. Tablets can be a huge help in the MLM business.
Yes, CDs and samples are very good business tools.
I too use the voice recorder idea, only I just use the memo app on my cell phone. Nevertheless, since having a child my memory is totally zapped and so I have to keep a record of my ideas in order to remember them. Plus, as you mentioned it comes in handy for recording conversations with mentors. I have also used it to record presentations given at conferences or group meetings just to have something to reference when I need information or inspiration.
Using a voice recorder is a great way to document ideas as you get them.
This is a quality top 10 list of MLM tools! Each and every tool mentioned here serves a different but significant purpose and all are worthy of a place in the ‘toolbox’ of any network marketer. High touch tools are massively effective for offline marketing, and high tech tools are of great importance to online marketing, but I’d be interested in what kind of crossover there is. For example, using high technology for personal touch (sending out a monthly news video to all of the customers, prospects, and team members in your email list).
High tech and high touch when combined is the way to go. I try to do most of my business offline. I meet everyone online, but then I do everything by mail and by phone. It gives me the personal touch and makes a big difference.
You hit this spot on. The best approach to successful MLM marketing in 2014 is a hybrid approach with old techniques and new technology. We’ve lost the personal touch. Like you suggest with the actual paper newsletter, I think a handwritten note goes a long way toward establishing relationships with clients and your team. Marketing strategies are ever evolving and we need to adjust for the changing market, as well. Using technology like videos and content management systems are a great way to simplify your business so you can spend more time doing what actually brings in money – building relationships and selling a product.
Combine high tech and high touch and you can’t go wrong. Nothing beats a personal touch, even in a fast paced, digital world.
