The Power of Association in Network Marketing

Today, I want to talk about the power of association in network marketing.

If you have children, you understand the power of association.  You are very cautious about who your children spend time with.  You realize what a bad influence can do to a good child.

I like to think the same holds true in network marketing.

Who you spend the most amount of your time with will ultimately determine where you end up in your network marketing business.  My best advice is to hang out with the successful distributors in your company and upline who have good attitudes and big goals.  Spend time with them as much as possible.

Rub elbows with these winners and learn everything you can from them.  Ask them questions, pick their brain and spend quality time with them.

One of the best ways to do this is via events.  Attend all of your company’s functions.  Network with these leaders before and after the event.  Sit in the front row and take notes.  See if you can take one of them out to lunch or dinner and get some one-on-one time with them.

You should also do the following things.

Join mastermind groups.  There are lots of free and paid network marketing mastermind groups where successful distributors share their secrets and best tips.  Normally, this is done via phone conference call, but some are also done via webinar, SKYPE or even in person. Make it a point to participate in one of these events at least once every 90 days.

the power of association in network marketingAttend all conference calls.  Listen to your company’s and upline’s conference calls whenever possible.  Many trainers in our industry even offer generic training calls.  Plug into these calls whenever you can.

Read lots of books.  There are TONS of great books about attitude, goal setting and thinking positive.  Read one of these types of books every couple weeks and keep putting positive information into your brain.  Read books about network marketing, business, leadership, personal power, people skills, and any other subject that will make you a better person, leader and entrepreneur.  If you can’t afford to buy books, visit your local library.

Watch videos.  I absolutely love YouTube.  Although it can be a huge time waster if you let it be, there is so much valuable information on YouTube.  You can watch videos by network marketing leaders, or you can follow people like Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, Tom Hopkins, Dan Kennedy, Tony Robbins, etc.  Try to watch one new video each day to help you improve your skills and attitude.

Keep doing this and an amazing thing will happen in your business and in your personal life.  This is the power of association at work.

You will start thinking positive.  Your mindset will improve.  You will learn new skills.  And you will become the person who were supposed to be.

I look at all the personal growth I have had in this industry during the past 14 years.  I have completely changed as a person, for the better.  If you were to compare who I am today with who I was when I first got started in the industry, there is no comparison.  For that one thing alone, I am eternally grateful for this industry.

Now, I’m not telling you to IGNORE people on your team who are not upbeat, positive or successful.  By all means, help them as needed, but make sure that you spend more time with people who have good attitudes, big goals, and are success minded.  Spend your time where it is deserved!

Guard your association like your life depends upon it.  You can start out right, but it is easy to get sidetracked and drift.  One negative person can really set you back pretty far.  Trust me, this has happened to me before.

Here’s the bottom line folks: the power of association in network marketing is just like the power of association in anything else.

  • Hang out with criminals and there’s a good chance you will become a criminal
  • Hang out with drug dealers and there is a good chance you will become a drug dealer
  • Hang out with people with bad attitudes and no goals, and you will become like them
  • Hang out with people who are happy, successful, and success minded and you will become like them
  • Hang around people in your company who are making money and growing their business, and there’s a good chance you will too

  1. It is oh so very true Charles. Birds of a feather flock together. So by surrounding yourself with people who are currently at where you are trying to be, you will soon find yourself exactly where they are. There is so much you can learn and pick up on just be regularly spending time with people who are leaders in their network marketing business. It pays to sit back and listen and learn sometimes. If more people did so, there would be a significantly larger number of truly successful individuals.

  2. This was a great post Chuck. It is so true, the ones we are around the most has a strong influence in how we will act. I find myself telling anyone who is acting negative around me that I really don’t do negative. I give them a warning that I will not stay around them if they keep using negative as there primary attitude.

    It does make a big difference if we hang near successful people. Try it and see. What and who you are around is waht and who you will become.
