Today, I want to talk about the power of association in network marketing.
If you have children, you understand the power of association. You are very cautious about who your children spend time with. You realize what a bad influence can do to a good child.
If your child hangs around gang members, he will likely become one. If he hangs around thieves, he will likely become one. If he hangs around high school drop outs, he will likely become one.
On the other hand, if he hangs out with kids who get good grades, he too will probably get good grades, too. If he hangs around other kids who play sports, he will probably play sports.
The same holds true in network marketing.
Who you spend the most amount of your time with will ultimately determine where you end up in your network marketing business.
My best advice is to hang out with the successful distributors in your company and upline who have good attitudes and big goals. Spend time with them as much as possible.
Rub elbows with these winners and learn everything you can from them. Ask them questions, pick their brain and spend quality time with them. They will uplift you, teach you and encourage you. They will help you develop your potential.
The Power of Association in Network Marketing
Here are a few different ways to leverage the power of association in network marketing.
# 1: Attend Events
We are an event driven business. You should attend EVERY event. This includes live events, webinars, conference calls, etc. It includes company events and team events. This will help build up your belief, teach you new skills, and give you social proof that the business works. Get good at promoting events as well. It is quite perhaps the highest paying skill in network marketing.
Attending business luncheons and other networking events raises your personal profile and can help keep you front and center in the minds of the right people.

# 2: Find a Mentor
If you want to be successful, you need a mentor. Every successful person I know has a coach or mentor. You need one too. Start with the first successful person in your upline success team and see if they are willing to help you. If they can’t or won’t help you, keep looking upline until you find someone who will.
If you can’t find a mentor in your current company, just find a mentor elsewhere. You can have mentors by reading books, watching YouTube videos, and attending generic training events in our industry.
I believe that having someone in your upline as your mentor should be your top goal, because you can learn from their mistakes AND they have a vested interest in helping you grow your business.
The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own.
~ Benjamin Disraeli
# 3: Read
Reading good books has had more influence on my personal development than anything else. There are so many great books about network marketing you can read. What took someone their entire life (or career) to learn, you can learn in just three to five hours by reading their book. I’d make a commitment to read at least 10-pages daily. I’d start with this book list.
Read books about leadership, communication, relationships, sales, marketing, entrepreneurship, business and other subjects. This will teach you a variety of skills that will benefit you in life and in business.
Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light.

# 4: Facebook Groups
More than one billion people are on Facebook. Facebook groups can be a great way to leverage the power of association in network marketing. I suggest you join your team’s group, your company’s group, and maybe even a few generic MLM Mastermind groups. Ask your questions, learn from others and work on your skills. These groups can also be a great place to find potential prospects and mentors.
It’s a viable way of building a highly engaged community of individuals who are likely to be interested in your business.

# 5: Mastermind
I learned about the power of the mastermind from Napoleon Hill in his best-selling book, Think & Grow Rich. A mastermind is when two or more people put their minds together to solve a problem. The power of two minds (or more) is always more effective than the power of one.
I suggest you develop your own mastermind team for your network marketing business. Find a few other people in your team or company who want success as badly as you do, and share ideas and provide encouragement to each other. Participating in a mastermind team is the one thing I wish I would have started doing much sooner in my career.
The basic philosophy of a mastermind group is that more is achieved in less time when people work together.

# 6: YouTube Videos
YouTube videos are one of my favorite ways to associate with successful people. You might find this strange, but I have never met ANY of my MLM Mentors in real life. Instead, I have read their books or watched their videos.
The beauty of YouTube is that you can learn new skills from a variety of MLM Trainers. Plus, you can do it at your convenience, while on the go, driving to work, working out at the gym, or while chilling out at home.
According to YouTube’s own statistical counts, there are more than one billion unique visitors to Youtube.com every month. And of all those visitors and viewers and creators, more than 70 percent come from outside the United States, which actually makes perfect sense when you consider that only 350 million people live in the U.S. anyway, which comes out to 35 percent of one billion.
How Association Will Help You
As you associate with other success minded people, a few things will happen.
First off, you will start to increase your belief in the company, the products, the industry and yourself. You will become more confident in what you have to offer others. This confidence will shine through when you are talking with your prospects.
In addition, you will improve your SKILLS. Skills pay the bills in our industry. Like any other profession, to succeed in network marketing, you need to master a few basic skills such as prospecting, inviting, closing, promoting events, selling, and launching new reps.
Finally, associating with the right people will help you get better results in your network marketing business. There is no doubt in mind that IF YOU APPLY what you are learning from your association with others, you will finally have that big breakthrough in your network marketing business.
None of these things will happen overnight, but they will happen if you stay the course, do the work, and implement the things you learn from others.

It is oh so very true Charles. Birds of a feather flock together. So by surrounding yourself with people who are currently at where you are trying to be, you will soon find yourself exactly where they are. There is so much you can learn and pick up on just be regularly spending time with people who are leaders in their network marketing business. It pays to sit back and listen and learn sometimes. If more people did so, there would be a significantly larger number of truly successful individuals.
Exactly. Some of the best lessons I have learned in my life were from reputable mentors. Yes, I learned stuff from the school of hard knocks as well, but when you spend time with people who have what you are trying to achieve, something magical happens.
This was a great post Chuck. It is so true, the ones we are around the most has a strong influence in how we will act. I find myself telling anyone who is acting negative around me that I really don’t do negative. I give them a warning that I will not stay around them if they keep using negative as their primary attitude.
It does make a big difference if we hang near successful people. Try it and see. What and who you are around is what and who you will become.
Yes, I try to keep the negative and drama away as much as possible. When I let it in my life, it consumes me, and changes the way I feel and act. However, when I am around positive people, it uplifts me and keeps me positive. Funny how the Law of Attraction works.
