Today, I’d like to share my thoughts with you on the fastest way to build a big MLM Team.
First off, as a quick disclaimer, this is just my opinion and we can agree to disagree. I by no means have ALL the answers, but I have been doing this for 18-years now and have come to learn some basic success principles, mostly via the School of Hard Knocks.
Before we dive too deep into this topic, I think it would be best to define “what is fast?” and “what is a big team?”.
In my own words, I would define a big team as a team that generates you at least $10,000 per month in passive income. The number of reps to get there will vary by company, but in most cases it’s between 1k and 5k reps. Furthermore, I would define fast as two to five years. It takes time to build a successful, profitable business of any type. Network marketing is no different.
Three Choices to Build a Big MLM Team
When it comes to building a big MLM Team, there are several ways to do it. The three most common strategies I know of include:
This is what many top earners do. They mastered the art of recruiting and they personally recruited 200, 300, even 500 people quickly. From that, they find two to five rock solid leaders who are responsible for 90% or more of their growth and income. This approach works great if you are good at recruiting, but the average person can’t do this.
Taprooting is the SMART way for the AVERAGE person with little MLM Experience to build a big team. This is the process of sponsoring two or three people and then going to work for them.
You sponsor Joe and help him sponsor Mark. You then go and work with Mark and help him sponsor Sue. You then go and work with Sue and help her sponsor Dave. You keep repeating this process over and over in depth UNTIL you find your quality leader. Normally, you will find a “leader type” person by the time you get 10-20 levels deep.
I once heard a top earner say that a good network marketer can sponsor just two people and build a team of millions of people by taprooting. I’ve never been good at doing this myself, but I have several successful friends who have built big MLM Teams using this strategy.
The third way to build a big MLM team is with a product focus. This works great, especially if you are in a product focused company or you are over the top passionate about your company’s product line. This is where your focus is simply sharing the products with prospects, gaining tons of customers, and letting your organization grow naturally from doing that.
Mastering any of these three strategies will help you grow a big MLM Team. How long will it take? That just depends. For most people who make it to the top in their company’s compensation plan, it normally takes them at least three to five years, and sometimes eight to ten years. Some do it quicker, but this seems to be about the norm.
However, if you are someone who wants to build a big MLM Team fast, there is a different strategy you can take. I learned about this strategy from Tracy Biller. I use this strategy myself, combined with mass recruiting. It’s worked very well for me and I hope you will at least consider it.
The Fastest Way to Build a Big MLM Team
Without a doubt, the fastest way to grow a big MLM Team is to recruit other network marketers. Now, before you get mad and say this is shady or unethical, please hear me out for a moment.
Imagine you owned a professional football team. At the end of the season, you had some openings on your team. Some players retired, others were cut, some were traded, etc.
Would you go down to the local unemployment office to fill your open positions? Would you look for someone who has never played football before and HOPE that you could motivate them and train them properly for the season? I highly doubt it.
I’d argue that if you followed this strategy, you would probably lose your football franchise (and rightfully so).
If you were smart, you would either draft a talented player with a ton of potential, or even better, you would look for a qualified free agent, and sign them to your team. Why? Because these two options are just smart. They come with a high certainty of success. And it just makes business sense.
Let me give you another example to really hit my point.
Let’s suppose you are a real estate broker. You own your own office selling high end real estate in Beverly Hills, California. We’re talking about million-dollar homes. You want to expand your business because the housing market is booming. You want to take your business to the next level.
Would you visit the local unemployment office or go to the town’s bowling alley to find new agents? I hope not. If you were smart, you would seek out EXPERIENCED realtors who are looking for a new opportunity. Why? Because they have the contacts, drive, skills, and experience to be successful. There is a short learning curve, if any.
This is just smart business. I know what I would do if I was the broker looking for new agents. I would seek out the most talented free agent realtors I can find and recruit them to work with me.
So, why should network marketing be any different? Why should you focus on friends and family who are probably not entrepreneurial, highly motivated, or even like our industry? Why would you approach people who have never done the industry before?
I can’t speak for you, but that just doesn’t make sense to me. The fastest way to build a big MLM Team is to recruit other network marketers. You want people who already have the skills, desire, hustle, and experience in the industry. You want people who believe in the industry, know what they are doing, and already know how to build a big team.
This makes building your business fast and allows you to work smart.
If this doesn’t make sense to you, I want you to look at the top 20 earners in your company. If I was a betting man, I bet at least 18 to 19 out of those 20 people have PREVIOUS MLM Experience, prior to their current company. And I bet their best people also have previous MLM Experience.
What Not to Do
I am not telling you to go out and poach people from other companies. There’s no need to do that. It just makes you look bad when you do that.
Instead, you should look for free agents. You are looking for people who aren’t currently in a network marketing company or people who are unhappy with their current company. You should look for people with experience in the industry who are looking for a new home.
There are THOUSANDS, probably tens of thousands of MLM Reps, in this situation. You must get creative, think outside the box, and find ways to recruit them.
How to Recruit Other Network Marketers
Remember this, a stud wants to work with a stud. A leader wants to work with a leader. A stud will rarely join a dud.
To recruit other network marketers, you must be someone worth joining. You must master your skills and offer a ton of value.
You also need SYSTEMS, training and leads. These are three things EVERY network marketer wants. If you can put together systems, leads and training, you will have something of value to offer people.
Please remember that people don’t join companies. They join people. So be someone worth joining.
In conclusion, the fastest way to build a big MLM Team is to recruit other network marketers. These folks are your real target market. Following this approach will allow you to build a big team with less work and less frustration.
