Today, I want to share what I consider to believe to be the best affiliate marketing program for 2019 and 2020. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and we can agree to disagree. I’m a very satisfied affiliate and CUSTOMER with this company.
I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for more than 10-years now. It’s been a fun journey filled with achievements and setbacks. I love it and have done very well with it overall, but it took me about five-years to really understand it and get good at.
It’s one of my favorite business models and I think it can be a great fit for anyone who knows anything about online marketing. Many successful bloggers, YouTubers, and social media marketers use affiliate marketing to create a full-time income.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
In case you aren’t sure about what affiliate marketing is, it’s when you help someone else sell a product and you earn a commission for it. You get your own unique “affiliate link” that is designated to you.
Whenever someone clicks on your affiliate link and makes a purchase from the vendor, you earn a commission. Even better, the vendor collects the money, ships the product, handles customer service, and then pays you your commissions.
You focus on generating targeted traffic and the vendor does EVERYTHING else.
The Problem with Most Affiliate Marketing Programs
The major problem with most affiliate marketing programs is that they don’t pay you much money per sale. With most affiliate marketing programs you only earn $10 or less per sale.
You would have to sell hundreds and hundreds of products each month to create a full-time income. There are exceptions to this rule, but they are few and far between.
Even worse, there are no residual commissions with most affiliate marketing programs. You only get paid for that one-time purchase, yet if that customer makes additional purchases in the future, you normally don’t get paid anything.
As a result, you are always looking for your next sale. Your work is never done.
Things to Look for in an Affiliate Marketing Program
What I would like to do in the paragraphs below is share some things you should evaluate before you join an affiliate marketing program. Very few companies will score high in every single area I describe below. That’s okay. Ideally, you want a company that scores well in as many categories as possible.
# 1 In Demand Product: This is easily the most important thing to look for. Is the product or service in demand? Are people already buying it? Is it good quality and priced competitively? The last thing you want to do is promote a product or service that most people have no interest in buying.
# 2 Good Sales Process: Is the sales page enticing? Does it motivate people to whip out their credit card and make a purchase? Is it convincing? Does the company use a capture page, sales page and a good follow-up process? In my opinion, you should become a customer first, so you will understand the shopping experience, and learn if the product delivers on its promises.
# 3 International: Is the product or service for sale in multiple markets? If you’re limited to just one country, or just a few countries, you are really missing out. The more countries the company does business in the better. After all, we live in a global economy.
# 4 Residual Commissions: Are the commissions residual or one-time commissions? This is critical. With most affiliate marketing programs, you only get credit for the first sale. Basically, you help the company find new customers, they pay you once for the first sale, but then they keep all the back-end money from repeat sales.
# 5 Large Commissions: Are the commissions generous? What percentage is the company paying out? How much will you earn per sale? To be honest with you, if you’re only making a few dollars or less per sale, it’s going to be hard to make a solid income. Ideally, you want something where you earn anywhere from $50 to $5,000 per sale.
# 6 Resources & Tools: Does the affiliate program offer resources and tools? Are there example banner ads, solo ads, text ads, and scripts? The more resources the better.
# 7 Customer Support: Is customer support accessible? Do they provide a phone number to call if there is an issue? Is it easy to reach the customer service department and get your questions answered? If a customer has a problem with their purchase, will it be resolved promptly and in a courteous manner?
# 8 Cookies: I’m not talking about chocolate chip cookies here. I’m talking about tracking cookies. How long is a lead tracked to your cookie? Ideally, you want it to be forever, but with most affiliate programs it is 30 to 90-days.
# 9 Payout Threshold: How often does the affiliate program payout? What is the threshold amount of earnings you need to earn to have your money released and sent to you? Many companies make the payment threshold so large so they never have to pay you.
These are just a few things I look at when evaluating an affiliate marketing company.
