The 3/2/1 Method in MLM by Joe Rubino

I’m a big fan of Joe Rubino.  I’ve read many of his books and studied his training materials. One of his keys to success is the 3/2/1 method.  This method revolves around the idea of having three prospecting conversations per day, two follow-up calls per day, and one call to a team member to help them per day.

I truly believe that anyone can follow this method to grow their network marketing business. It’s not all that time consuming and it’s not all that difficult either.

You see, if you are meeting three new prospects per day, you will have no problem having two people to follow up with a day and you will have no problem having one team member to call and help.

Where most people fall short in MLM is they don’t have prospects to call. Since they don’t have any prospects, they just sit around and wait for something to happen.

So, what I do I recommend you do to find prospects to talk to?

  • Join local community activities
  • Meet new friends on Facebook
  • Attend flea markets, job fairs and community events to meet people
  • Buy leads (not the best course of action, but better than doing nothing)
  • Generate your own leads online
  • Talk to three to five people while you are out and about

If you are doing these activities you will meet people to share your products and business opportunity with.

The bottom line is you need to step out of your comfort zone if you want to meet prospects.

As you meet new prospects, focus on building a friendship with them first and then introduce your business opportunity and/or products when the timing is right (normally a couple days later).

Give these prospects a call a few days after you meet them and follow up with them.

The best thing you can do is call them and ask questions.

Find out if they are happy with what they are doing.  See if they are keeping their options open or looking for something better.  Don’t tell them too much about what you do, but pique their interest and have them watch a presentation online, or have them meet with you face to face for a presentation.

As you’re doing this, you need to remember a few things.

  • Just because someone says NO today doesn’t mean they will be NO forever
  • Leverage technology whenever you can so you can free up time and work smart
  • Always be a professional
  • Focus your presentation around your prospect’s wants, needs and desires
  • Show a complete 20-30 minute presentation
  • Use third party tools if possible

Sponsor the people who are ready.  If people tell you NO to the business, try to get referrals from them AND get them as a customer.

Finally, make sure you call one team member every day to see if you can help them.  Ideally, you want to spend the most time with the people who are working, but you should let everyone on your team know you are available to help them.

Follow the 3/2/1 method that Joe Rubino talks about and you will be well on your way in your network marketing business.

  1. This 3-2-1 method sounds almost too simple. Thank you for sharing it with us. You also gave some timeless tips on how to approach people and find prospects. These are all great pieces of advice. If we are persistent, always have a smile and act professional at all times, good things will come your way. By following the systems that work, your MLM will grow and grow.

      1. That is where many fall short in network marketing….they are not willing to step out and do the work. Even if a person was to just do money making activities 1 or 2 hours a day, good things would follow. So many people have the mentality that everything will just fall in their lap if they sign up. Much of this is because of the way sponsors mislead just to get a sign up. Sponsors need to be honest and it will help the whole network marketing structure.

  2. I’ve read a couple of Joe’s books and this 3/2/1 method is pretty simple and to the point. I really think anyone could do it! Thanks for sharing.

  3. The 3/2/1 is new to me. I did not know it even existed but it sounds great. Three new prospects is a high target for some of us not used to that, but great nevertheless. I also believe having more prospects than follow ups, and more follow ups than team calling is very workable.

The ideas about prospects fishing is great. I would only have issues with one of the methods outlined as I would not be comfortable buying leads. Many leads, I believe, are general in nature and not necessarily interested in your products. In the long run however, I will be very comfortable building my own from scratch as the conversion rates are much higher and free.

Your tips on leveraging technology, being persistent, professional and brief are great pointers. Thanks for the inspiration. I think I will am slowly adopting your business role models. Joe Rubino is next on my hit list.
