Today, I want to share a very valuable lesson with you. That lesson is “success happens in MLM when the emotion leaves.” By nature we are all emotional creatures. No one makes logical decisions. Instead, we make emotional decisions and then justify it with logic. You might think you are a logical person, but trust me, you aren’t. Neither am I. The sooner you understand that the better off you will be.
While we are naturally emotional creatures, I’ve quickly discovered that successful people have an amazing ability to master their emotions. Rather than letting their emotions control them, they control their emotions. Successful people let their actions control their emotions rather than letting their emotions control their actions.
When it comes to network marketing, the sooner you can “get a grip” on your emotions the better off you will be. While it’s perfectly fine to “get excited” from time-to-time, there is no good reason you should have a bunch of ups and downs: highs and lows.
In other words, you shouldn’t get all pumped up because your new prospect tells you she is going to blow the business up. And you shouldn’t get all down and out when that same prospect quits seven days later. If you do this, you will be an emotional roller coaster.
Whether people join or don’t join your business opportunity, you should be the same. Whether your new team members sponsors 20 people or sponsors no one, you should be the same. Whether or not your new team member goes on auto-ship you should be the same. Once again, don’t let other people’s words or actions control how you feel. Don’t be attached to the outcome.
As hard as that sounds to do, it’s very important. You see, what goes up must come down. if you are always going through extreme highs, and then extreme lows, you won’t make it very long in this industry. Instead, you need to be balanced. You need to separate your emotions from what other people do and say. After all, you really can’t control what others do or say, so why let it get the best of you?
The sooner you can let go of your emotions and stop letting other people’s words and actions dictate how you feel, the better off you will be. Just do the work and don’t be attached to the outcome of what happens. Just remember, success happens in MLM when the emotion leaves. Learn to master your emotions rather than letting your emotions control you.

It is hard not to have emotions in the business especially when you have done everything you could to help someone and they either blame you for not accomplishing their goals or they quit. Many times it could be something happening in your life however like Chuck said, leave your emotions out of your business. If you don’t you can ruin everything that you have worked so hard for. If you are emotional it’s probably best if you don’t work your business at that time. Walk away, find something that makes you happy and come back when your mind is clear. I would love to hear what others do to clear their minds.
This is great life advice. Do not give others the power over your emotions, for then you give them power over you. (Excepting your mate, of course.) It is so easy to get wrapped up in hype when presented with an opportunity. That is why attractive and/or exciting people are usually great at sales. If you can leave emotion behind in business, other than a burning desire to succeed, you will make more logical choices, and that will greatly benefit you in the long run.
I used to be an emotional roller coaster in my business. Now I am detached from the outcome. It helps a lot.
Don’t feel like a loner on that Chuck. I find myself getting on the emotional roller coaster at times, but I have learned that I do much better if I stay off that carnival ride. When we stay consistent with our emotions, I notice that our business usually stays more consistent also. I have noticed that more and more.
I do believe there are those times we have to show our emotions, but it is better to go off and be alone to do it. This was a great post and should be read by many other network marketers. It just may help them survive the business jungle.
We are all emotional creatures, but if we can take the emotion out of the business, it will be much easier and more fun. Some will, some won’t, so what! Let your actions control your emotions rather than letting your emotions control your actions.
That’s the best way to put it! Let your actions control your emotions and not vice versa. That is so important for almost any job, but especially business. It is hard to make clear and concise decisions if your emotions get in the way. Don’t worry, just focus on your goals and priorities and do your best!
You are extremely right on this. Logic and emotion do not go together. I watch people get “high” on things all the time. When a little stress comes, the bottom drops out. We need to always learn to take a middle road. It is ok to feel a “high”, but keep it under control and do not let logic leave. If we use logic in all of our decisions, we will have better chances of success.
