Today, I want to share a secret tip about promoting your MLM Company. What’s my tip? My tip is “don’t lead with your business opportunity!” Don’t be like everyone else in the industry who is saying “my company is better than yours!”
Don’t be like everyone else in the industry who is PUKING their business opportunity all over everyone else. Don’t be like everyone else in the industry who is promising fast money, easy money or overloading their prospect with hype and lies.
Let’s face it, just about everyone and their brother (or sister) is promoting their business opportunity (online and offline). You can’t spend even two minutes on Facebook without being pitched by someone about the newest shiny object.
And most of these folks are getting the same results: NOTHING! To be quite frank with you, promoting your business opportunity first is quite perhaps the quickest way to ruin good prospects and get frustrated.
Why is that?
Because most people are not interested in starting a business of their own! Most people do not like to sell! Most people WANT to be employees and have no desire to step out of their comfort zone. Even worse, most people are skeptical of network marketing.
Don’t believe me? Go interview 100 random people and see their response when you talk to them about network marketing.
As I see it, you really have two options.
Your first option is to lead with your products or services. I know that very few people in the industry teach this concept, but it’s vitally important, and extremely effective.
Why should you lead with the products first? Because 100% of the population likes to buy! If you can show someone a product or service that is good quality, at a fair price, that can help them solve a problem, they will buy it.
Let’s face it, if someone can’t get excited about the products or services, what makes you think they will build a business (and stick around)? Remember, the products are the business. If the products don’t make sense, neither will the business.
You see, happy customers make happy distributors. Distributors come and go, but a good customer is worth their weight and gold. Your best business builders will typically come from your customer base.
If you don’t have the desire to lead with your products or services, you have a second option.
Your second option is to lead with free information. What could you promote? Here are a few examples:
- A free DVD that talks about weight loss
- A free report about the benefits of a home business
- A free facial or makeover
- A free coupon for 10% off their first purchase
- A free video boot camp about essential oils
- A free email course about alternative health solutions
- An audio course about the tax advantages of a home business
Your free information should sell your prospect on your products or business opportunity. It should do the heavy lifting and sifting and sorting for you.
Some folks call this the two-step selling process. I can speak from personal experience and tell you that this method works like hotcakes.
When you follow this simple strategy, your conversion rate will increase five to ten fold, maybe more. If the information you give away is good, many of these prospects will NATURALLY want to learn more about your products and business opportunity.
They will contact you.
They will want to know more about what you do.
They will want to know what other information you have that can help them.
And that puts you in the driver’s seat!
When people contact you first, you become the hunted, not the hunter.
When you lead with FREE information you don’t get rejected (not as much anyway).
Let’s face it, more people are interested in your FREE information than they are with your business opportunity.
As long as you can over deliver with great content, you will find plenty of people to sponsor into the business.
It’s the best of both worlds as I see it.
So, stop promoting your MLM Company on the FRONT END and promote your products or free information instead.
As you build up your list of interested prospects, stay in touch frequently, and build a relationship with them.
That is the only strategy I use and recommend.

People are much more likely to engage with you when they are first captured by a product or service that they can benefit as opposed to trying to reel them in with your business. Freebies often work incredibly well at getting people to come back and get more information. However, even without a freebie, if you can get people to see the value in something specific you have to offer they will begin to view you as a reputable source and return to see what else you have to offer and how they can get involved.
Get people to like the products and many of them will naturally want to be a distributor.
People always like free stuff. If you are promoting something that will help them in their life for free they are much more likely to listen. Make sure that whatever you offer information wise has very good content so that people will want more of what you can offer. Even when you are just dealing with customers. Offer a coupon or some incentive for free just for speaking with you at that time. I’m more likely to keep a business card that offers me a discount on a product I like than one from the pushy person in the mall.
Yes, people do like free stuff. Leading with something free and then trying to sell something is a bit easier.
