Sample MLM Scripts to Use with Prospects

Using scripts to contact your prospects is a good idea, especially if you are new to the business. Many new reps complain that they don’t know what to say to people.  Using a script can get rid of the stress and make things much easier on the new rep.

Here are some sample MLM Scripts to help you contact people about the products or business opportunity. Feel free to modify any of these scripts as you see fit.

When Contacting a Referral About the Business

# 1 Hi, how are you doing, Eric?  My name is Joe Jackson, we’ve never met before.  You were someone who was referred to by Jason Smith.  Did I catch you at a bad time?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  I own a business here in Tampa, Florida and I’m looking to expand.  The purpose of my call is to find out if you are keeping your options open and looking for something to do part-time or potentially even a new career.  Would something like that interest you? WAIT FOR ANSWER.  Great.  I’ve got a short 15 minute video that explains what I do.  If I sent it to you today, when do you think you would get a chance to watch it?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  That sounds great.  When would be the best time to follow up with you: tomorrow or Wednesday?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  Which time is better for you: 10 am or 7 pm?

**** Confirm the appointment, get their email, and get off the phone quickly.

# 2 Hi Joe, this is Nathan Richards.  You don’t know me.  I received your name as a referral from Tina Smith.  Do you remember Tina?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  She told me you were someone who is ambitious, motivated and driven.  Does that describe you?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  I’m calling you today because I’m looking to expand my health and wellness business into your local area.  I’m looking for part-time and full-time help.  Are you keeping your options open? When Prospecting a Stranger About the Business

*** After you make some small talk

# 1 Hey, this is just a shot in the dark, but I have my own health and wellness business and I’m looking to expand locally and work with some really sharp people, and you seem like the type of person that might know the kind of people I am looking for.   Would you happen to know anyone who might be looking to make an extra $2000 per month on a part-time basis or a career change for something bigger and better?

# 2 I’ve enjoyed meeting you today, Sam.  Before I go, I wanted to ask if you could do me a favor.  I’ve recently started my own business in the health and wellness industry and I am looking for professionals to help me on a part-time and full-time basis.  Do you know anyone who might be interested in earning an extra $500 to $2000 per month part-time, or even more working full-time?

*** Your goal is to be in a hurry, get their business card or phone/email as quickly as possible and let them know you will be in touch in 1-2 days.

When Contacting a Good Friend About the Business

# 1 Hey Mary, this is Chuck. I’m running out the door, but I need to talk to you real quick.  You’ve always been a great friend and have been really supportive of me.  When you told me you didn’t like your job the other day were you joking around or were you just kidding? WAIT FOR ANSWER.  I’m calling because I think I have something that might help you make more money and have a more fulfilling career.  If I sent you some information by email that talks about what I do, would you be willing to take a look at it? WAIT FOR ANSWER.  What would be the best time to follow up with you: Tuesday or Thursday?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  What time on Thursday works best for you: 9 am or 8 pm?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  Sounds good, I’ll send you the information right away and be in touch on Thursday at 8 pm.  Have a great day!

**** If they agree, send them a link, schedule a time to follow up, and get off the phone quickly.

When Contacting a Good Friend About the Product

Hey Uncle John.  It’s me Tina.  I’m calling you today because I saw your post on Facebook about your chronic knee pain.  I just wanted to contact you because I know of a product that might help you with it.  If I sent you some information by email about it, would you be willing to take a look at it?  WAIT FOR ANSWER.  Great.  I’ll send it to you in a few minutes by email.

**** If they agree, send them a link, schedule a time to follow up, and get off the phone quickly.

When Contacting Anyone in Your Warm Market

Hi Ronald, this is Tony Tinsdale.  I just wanted to call and see if you could do me a favor. Can you please help me out? WAIT FOR ANSWER.   Erica and I have just started a new business that we are really excited about.  We are looking for three people with leadership and management abilities and we naturally thought of you. I have no idea if you would personally be interested in joining us, but I know you are well connected and probably know some good people.   I need you to watch a short video for me and tell me who you know that I should talk to.  Can you do that for me? WAIT FOR ANSWER.

**** If they agree, send them a link, schedule a time to follow up, and get off the phone quickly.

Final Thoughts

Keep in mind that there are no magic words with a MLM Script.  You just need something that keeps you on point and allows you to cover all of the information. Be brief and stay on point. The purpose of your call is to sell the APPOINTMENT, not explain everything about what you do.

Ultimately, you are sorting through people looking for people who are open minded and keeping their options open.  You really can’t say the wrong thing to the right person or the right thing to the wrong person.

By no means do you have to use one of the scripts listed above.  If anything, let it be your starting point.  Revise it and edit it until you have something that works well for you.

What are your thoughts?  What types of scripts have you used in the past?  Leave a comment below to share your thoughts.  I look forward to hearing from you.

This is really great. I think some people can get really lost and confused about what they are supposed to say in certain situations and these templates are a great starting point. Until you are more comfortable I think it is a good strategy to have some sort of script or at least talking points to help guide you through the process. You don’t want to risk losing out on someone because your words are jumbled and you’re leaving out vital information. A blog post I’ll have to recommend to some people on my team.

You hit a nail on the head there Chuck. A person really doesn’t need to get rid of the script, but at least make it their own. What I mean is to use wording you normally use. Talk as you normally would talk and don’t just read the script.

I love these samples…they are well written. I also need to mention and reiterate that when you ask a question, stop and listen to what the person says. Sure, you want to give the impression you are in a hurry, but not so much that you will not listen to what they have to say.

I also wanted to mention that as a ex telemarketer, asking a person if you caught them at a bad time can be the recipe for negative responses. For many people, any call is a bad time. I rather use, “Can I have a few minutes of your time?” Just a thought… hope it helps.

Some very good ideas in your scripts. I like the way you have looked at a variety of scenarios. Of course, the scripts are open to situational dialogues and not set in stone. We need to be flexible and able to ad lib too. However, the point is to sell the appointment and keeping that goal in mind ensures that you will succeed and take the appointment that one step further.
