How to Have Posture in Your MLM Business

Today, I’d like to talk to you about how to have posture in your MLM Business. I’m going to define what it is, why you need it, how it applies to network marketing and share some simple things you can do to improve your own posture.

What is Posture & Why Do You Need It?

In my own words, posture is how you walk, how you talk and how you handle yourself with others. It’s your belief system, convictions, confidence, attitude and persona, all wrapped up into one.

I learned a long time ago that people want to do business with people who are confident and people who are successful at what they do. People want to deal with the best of the best.

Let me give you a couple of examples to put this in perspective.

What if you were terminally ill and needed an important surgery to save your life? Would you want to go to the brand new surgeon, right out of medical school, who has never done that surgery before? Or, would you rather work with the expert, the surgeon who has done thousands of that surgery and knows what they’re doing? I already know the answer to that question.

What if you got hired for a new job on the other side of the country and you had 30-days to sell your home? Would you want to work with the brand new realtor in the local office, who has never sold a home before, and who doesn’t know what the heck they’re doing, or would you rather have the number one agent in the office list your home for you?

In both of these examples, I am 100% sure you would rather work with the expert, someone who has experience, knows what they are doing, and are at the top of their game.

The reason you would pick the expert is because you want to deal with the best of the best. Most people would gladly spend more money to work with the best, because they can expect a predictable result, and have a great experience.

How This Applies to Network Marketing

When it comes to network marketing and you’re talking with your prospect, you don’t need to be a six figure earner to sponsor them. You don’t need to be the top recruiter either, but you do need to believe in yourself, your company, your products, and the industry.

You need to be poised and have posture. You need to come across as confident, not desperate or uncertain.

Your prospect is looking at you and thinking three things:

  1. Does this work?
  2. Can I do it?
  3. Will you help me?

Your job is to exude confidence, and transfer your belief and enthusiasm to your prospect. This is the real key to sponsoring people. At the end of the day, the sale will be determined by YOUR enthusiasm and confidence, not the prospect’s.

I like compare the scared or desperate network marketer to someone who is scared of a dog. When someone who is scared of dogs is around a dog, the dog can sense the person’s fear. In many cases, this is what will influence the dog to attack or bite the person.

How to Have Posture in Your MLM Business

Here are some tips if you want to have posture in your MLM Business.

# 1: Get Experience Quickly

The quickest way to develop posture is to get a lot of experience quickly. Talk to as many people as you can as quickly as you can. Make tons of mistakes and learn from it. Get in the trenches and stay in the trenches. The more time you spend doing this, the quicker you will learn how to answer questions, deal with common objections and speak to people confidently. You can study these things until the cows come home, but nothing will actually beat going out and doing it!

This means you need to launch your business properly. It means you need to make your name’s list, schedule your launch party, and ideally do a 90-Day Challenge, right out the gate.

# 2: Improve Your Skills

Yes, this business is a numbers game, but it’s also a business of skill and strategy. Just like any other profession, you need to develop and master some basic skills if you want to succeed in network marketing. The most basic skills include prospecting, talking to people, generating leads, doing presentations, following up, making retail sales, and teaching your team. The quicker you improve your skills the better you will become at the business.

Learn, master and teach. First you are the apprentice. Then you become the expert. Then you teach others how to duplicate that process.

# 3: Work On Your Personal Development

Your business will only grow as much as you do. In addition to developing basic network marketing skills, you also need to work on your personal development. You should read books, counsel with a mentor, attend all events and enroll in automobile university. Focus on getting a little bit better every single day.

Personal development will help get your thinking right. You will learn how to think like an entrepreneur and network marketing professional. You will become more optimistic and have a better attitude.

# 4: Experience Success Quickly

Get to work right away so you can experience some level of success quickly. Even sponsoring your first person can have a HUGE impact on your belief and posture. The same holds true with finding your first retail customer. The quicker you progress through the company’s ranks the better your posture will be.

As a sponsor, your job is to help each new person have a good product experience right out the gate and help them earn a commission check, ideally their first month in the business. It doesn’t matter how much the check is. Any amount is good.

People will stay excited for about 30 to 90-days max. If they don’t have a good “product or business experience” during that time, they will drop out the business in no time flat.

# 5: Associate with Successful People in Your Company

One of the quickest ways to develop your posture is to attend all of your company’s and team’s events. Spend time with people in your company who are getting good results with their business. Positive association is very powerful. Hang around people who are positive, inspiring and uplifting. When you rub elbows with other winners in your company, it helps build up your belief.

Avoid the haters and negative people. Remember, the people you spend MOST of your time with will have the biggest impact on your attitude and success in the business (and in life).

What Others Are Saying About MLM Posture

I want to share some tips from other successful MLM Reps. Here’s what Simon Chan had to say about posture. He is the founder of MLM Nation.

Most distributors spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME with their prospect.

They let presentations drag on and on…

Or they won’t hang up the phone until the prospect commits…

Or they make themselves available to present any minute at any notice.

I’ve seen distributors run to their car so they can immediately present to a cold market stranger they just met on the grocery line!

Why is this bad?

Because people are always buying YOU!

Would you agree that people like to join successful people?

Yes!

So, what successful person do you know would spend all day talking to someone?

Would the President of the USA spend hours on the phone with a prospect or would the conversation be quick?

Would the top income earner in your company stay on the phone for hours to answer questions or would he have left long ago for his next meeting?

Would Michael Jordan cancel his plans on the spot to do a 30 minute meeting with a random stranger?

Answer to all the above is “No!”

Successful people are ALWAYS in a hurry because they’re always busy doing the things that make them successful.

So make sure you’re always in a hurry.

When you make yourself available anytime or spend endless hours talking to prospects or downlines, you’re basically sending the signal to the world that you are NOT successful because no successful person does that.

And, here’s another great tip about MLM Posture from SelfGrowth.com.

You can give your MLM posture a huge boost by hanging around successful people. Success breeds success. Do you want to hang around the whiners who aren’t making any money or would you like to hang around individuals who are recruiting distributors weekly and creating wealth. It’s really a no-brainer. Go where the winners are. Where are the winners? Company specific events, chamber of commerce mixers and going to functions and associating with success-orientated people. ~ Source: SelfGrowth.com

  1. Truer words were never spoken; nobody likes to buy from someone who seems too salesy or pushy.
You see, people don’t like being sold to. Therefore, you must develop a persona that people want to buy from you rather than the other way round.
