People Want to Do Business with Successful People

People want to do business with successful people.

This is some time-tested wisdom that is applicable to 99% of everyone you talk with.

Very few people want to work with people who are unsuccessful, desperate and/or improperly trained.

People want to work with the best-of-the-best, people who are on top of their game.

To put things in perspective, let me give you a few hypothetical examples.

# 1 The Sick Child

Let’s assume your infant child is extremely ill.  You don’t know what’s wrong with them.  They’re constantly vomiting and are in and out of consciousness.  You have two choices about where to take them to get help.  You can take them to doctor A, who is fresh out of medical school, has less than three month’s experience and has the cheapest prices in town.  Your other option is to take them to the most respected doctor in town (although they are more expensive); someone with more than 40 years of experience, who specializes in working with sick infants.  Which doctor would you choose?

# 2 Selling Your Home

You just landed your dream job on the other side of the country.  You have 30 days to wrap things up, sell your current home and relocate.  Would you hire the brand new realtor® who has never sold a home before, or would you rather have the # 1 agent in the county list your home for sale?

# 3 Your Business Taxes

You have a large, successful business with a complex tax situation.  Do you get your taxes done at the local discount store, or do you take them to get done at a respected CPA’s office?

The Answer

The answers to these questions will say a lot about you.

I already know your answers.

From personal experience, I can tell you that most people want to do business with successful people.

Most people want to work with the best-of-the-best, even if it costs more money.

Network Marketing

How’s all of this apply to network marketing?

Well, would you rather work with someone who has been in the industry for less than a year (or in a company for less than a few months) OR someone who has been successful for many years?

Would you want to work with someone who was clueless about what to do, or someone who had a simple system to follow?

Would you rather work with someone who uses pressure and hype, or someone who is honest, sincere and genuine?

Would you rather work with an amateur or a network marketing professional?

Once again, I already know your answers to these questions.

People want to do business with successful people.

I know what you’re thinking.

You might be brand new to network marketing yourself.

That’s okay.

Everyone is new at some point.

My best advice to you is this: take responsibility for your business, starting today, and always act like a professional.

Check your attitude.

Work on your confidence.

Educate yourself about your company’s product line.

Educate yourself about the industry.

Improve your skills.

Be a student of your business.

Do these things, starting today, in your business and people will perceive you AS a professional.

That is some of the best advice I can share with you.

How people perceive you is what matters most.

Perception is reality.

Yes, it takes time to master your skills.

Yes, you can earn as you learn.

I think you would get much better results in your business if you acted confident, had a game plan, checked your attitude and made a commitment to your personal development.

Act AS IF you are already successful.

Have a nice business card.

Dress nice.

Talk like a professional.

Be nice to people.

Learn what you can about the industry.


If you can do those things your network marketing business will grow.

Choose to act successful before you are successful and you will become successful.

And always remember that people want to do business with successful people.

    I primarily agree with everything you stated here Chuck.

    One thing I do want to expand on though (which you did somewhat) is: it isn’t the length of time you have been in business, but it is how you act and treat the clientele.

    I would go back to the sick child… if that kid fresh out of medical school reacted professionally, and came across as if he/she knew how to solve the problem, I just may use them…but if their prices were too low, I would be scared away.

    This would work for the realtor and the tax person too. It is more how they treat me and their professionalism that will help me judge on who to use.
