Today, I want so share some notes I took from Darin Kidd’s video Network Marketing Basics: 7 Tips for Getting Started in Network Marketing. I stumbled across this video on YouTube today and was completely mesmerized by it. I watched the video two times and then went back a third time and decided to take some notes.
This is one of the best training videos I have ever watched. I have never met Darin Kidd in real life, or worked with him, but I have TREMENDOUS RESPECT for this guy. If you ever read this post Darin, thank you for the value you provide to our industry!

Most people are not taught the basics of building a successful network marketing business. Instead, they are expected to figure everything out on their own.That’s why so many people quit our industry.
It’s never too late to relaunch your network marketing business at any point. Whether you have been with your company for one month or one year, it’s never too late to reinvent yourself and start again.
The definition of wealth in network marketing is to get a large group of people to do a few simple things over a consistent period of time.
This is quite perhaps the best definition of network marketing I have ever heard.
This business is a process, not the lottery. You have to be persistent and consistent and keep a good attitude. You must learn while you earn. Get started, have some patience and stay the course. Good things take time, money, effort and hard work. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Work on you. Work harder on yourself than you do on your business. Focus on getting a little bit better every single day. Your business will only grow as much as you do.
You don’t make what you want, you make what you are. The Law of Attraction is always working, either for you or against you. To attract quality people into your business you need to become a quality person.
We get paid to solve problems. To make more money in the business, we have to become more and solve bigger problems.
Be the messenger not the message. Use third-party tools to share the business and products with others. Remove yourself from the equation and let the tools do the heavy lifting for you.
Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. The difference between success and failure is quite small.
We get paid based upon the value we bring to the marketplace. The only way to make more money in the marketplace is to increase your value. You do that by improving your skills.
Treat your network marketing business like a job. Show up every day no matter what and do the activities you know you should be doing.
It takes about 90-days to figure out what you got yourself into. It takes about a year to start to learn the basics of network marketing. It takes another year to get good at the basics. Every great network marketer was a lousy network marketer at first.
When you go to college, you invest tens of thousands of dollars, invest at least four years of your life, and have no guarantee of a job when you graduate. That is normal and no one questions it. Look at your first four years in your network marketing business as Network Marketing University. Best of all, you can earn while you learn.

How much would you pay an employee of yours to do what YOU did with your network marketing business last month? Ask yourself that question every single day and focus on getting better.
Most of us spend most of our time on busy work, not income producing activities. In this industry, we get paid to talk to new prospects. Everything else is busy work.
The attitude comes before the money.
Treat your new network marketing business like a job until you learn how to treat it like a business.
Learn how to manage your emotions. This business is an emotional roller coaster. If you don’t learn how to manage your emotions you will not survive in this business.
Most people who talk a big game do very little with the business. Talk is cheap. Watch the feet, not the lips.
We get paid based on the size of the problems we can solve.
In the beginning of any new business, you are going to work for less than minimum wage. Eventually, you will get paid on more than you are doing. The first year in any new business is a year of survival.
To invest in a franchise, you normally have to invest at least 5x the money you want to make per year. The business owns you. You have to work four or five years before you can expect any type of profit.
The blessing and curse of network marketing is that it is easy to get in and easy to get out.
Stick and stay and eventually you are going to get your pay.
You want your people system dependent, not people dependent.
It takes a very short period of time for people to get discouraged and quit. That’s why getting people plugged in to your training and system is so important.
You become who you hang around. Spend your time with people who uplift you, encourage you and bring out the best in you. Spend time with people who are sharper than you, and more motivated than you.
Do not compare yourself to other people in the business. There’s always a story behind the story. Everyone has their own journey. Success happens at different times for different people. If you’re going to compare anything, compare who you are with who you are capable of being.
Fast normally doesn’t last. Most organizations that grow fast die fast.
Focus on the system, master the mundane and stay laser focused.
