Today, I want to share 7 things I’ve learned from studying the MLM Top Earners. I’ve been studying the top earners in our industry for more than a decade now, and I’ve learned so many valuable skills and lessons from them. I’ve always been fascinated by what the top 1% do differently from the other 99% in our industry.
When you study the top earners in network marketing (or any industry) you will see that they do things MUCH differently than everyone else in their industry. And, that’s the primary reason they become successful. Study the top earners in our industry and you will notice certain similarities, even if they build their business differently.
My goal today is to help educate you about what the top earners do differently from everyone else in the MLM Industry, so you can start implementing some of these things in your own business.
# 1 They Stick with ONE Company for the Long Haul
Without a doubt the number one thing that top earners do differently than most people in network marketing is they stick with one company for the long haul. They don’t keep switching companies every three to twelve months. They find one good company with products they are passionate about and they partner up with that company for 10, 20, 30 or 40+ years. This gives them credibility and allows them to work smart.
Every time you switch companies you lose momentum and have to start over again. Trust me, I can speak from personal experience on this topic. You don’t need a great company to succeed, but it sure does help! Also, building a successful business of any kind is a long-term process. If you keep starting over every few months, or every few years, you never give yourself a chance to build momentum!
For example, my mentor in my company has been with the same company almost 20 years now!
# 2 They Work Mostly in Depth
Most of the top earners I’ve studied are MASTERS at building depth in their organization. They build strong tap roots in each leg of their organization until they find a key leader in depth. At that point, they focus their time, energy and money helping that person become ultra-successful.
Once you have a decent sized first level (front-line), with five SERIOUS people, it just makes sense to work in depth. Help your people succeed and they will stick around longer. Build depth to give yourself the long-term security. Going wide will make you profitable, but going deep will make you wealthy and give you long-term security. Keep in mind you will need to sponsor at least 50-100 people (or more) to find five really serious people.
# 3 They Have Multiple Streams of Income
Most top earners in network marketing have multiple streams of income. They sell systems, training, coaching, leads, books, and courses, in addition to their MLM Income. They diversify their income because they realize it is foolish to only have ONE income stream.
Their network marketing business is ONE stream of income of many in their business. They don’t have all of their eggs in one basket. In addition, they use these additional income streams on the front end to make immediate income, and then they back-end their customers into their MLM Business. After all, who doesn’t want to work with the guy that created the system or wrote the book?
Simply put, top earners build a You, Inc. business.
# 4 They Utilize Attraction Marketing
Most top earners utilize the concept of attraction marketing. Simply put, they provide VALUE through their training, speaking, coaching, products, and consulting. They promote themselves rather than their business opportunity. They teach others what they know and drop knowledge.
As a result, people seek them out and ask them to sponsor them. They don’t chase anyone! They don’t sell anyone. They don’t pressure anyone. They are the hunted, not the hunter!
# 5 They Sponsor 100 to 200 People Personally
Most top earners have personally sponsored at least 50 people and much closer to 100-200 people. When you study a lot of the top earners in our industry they will quickly tell you they make MOST of their income from one to three people on their team. But to find those key players they had to sponsor about 100 or more people. Chew on that for a moment! From what I’ve noticed, you have to sponsor about 30 people to find a rock star and about 100 people to find a mega-star.
# 6 They Have a System
All top earners have a system to grow their business. Study any 100 different top earners and you will probably find 100 different systems! That being said, each MLM Top Earner has a lead generation system, a follow-up system, and a training system. Sometimes these are online systems and sometimes they are not.
What they’ve done was build a system geared around what they are good at and what they can duplicate in their downline. Learn more about my system to build my MLM Business.
# 7 They Build a List
All MLM Top Earners that I know of have a list. Some folks call this a network. This is the #1 asset in their business. They have a list of THOUSANDS of people who know them, like them and trust them. That’s how they could change companies and hit the top ranks in less than a month.
They are always building their online and offline list, communicating frequently, and providing value. They safeguard and protect their list because they realize it is the most important asset in their business. Learn more about how to build a list.
There you have it folks. These are 7 lessons I’ve learned from studying the top earners in the network marketing industry. Of course, there are many other qualities that they have in common. These are the ones that just really stood out for me.
On a side note, I would love to hear what you think. What do you think top earners do differently from everyone else in the network marketing industry? Leave a comment below to share your thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you.

Vision and desire kind of go with one another. If you have a vision as to how you will succeed in your business, there is a strong likelihood that you have the underlying drive and dedication to put you in that place of success. One problem with my generation is the lack of drive. We want it, but we don’t want to put in all of the work required to get it. People only see the aftermath and don’t take the time to research all of the behind the scenes work it took for someone to get where they are at now. The fact is, you can have all the vision in the world but if there is not drive you won’t go anywhere.
I agree that having vision and desire are really important. You have to be able to see things before it exist.
This is good advice, as always. I especially like the advice to stick with ONE company. As we all know, to be successful in MLM, you need to look at it as a marathon and not a sprint. None of them are a get rich scheme. That is why is especially important to do your homework first, and choose the company that you can imagine having a long term relationship with (because that is what it is – a relationship much like any other).
The same holds true with traditional businesses. If you start/quit a new business every three to six months you won’t accomplish much.
