How to Support and Train Your MLM Team

Today, I want to educate you about creating your own MLM Team Support System.  If you want to do well in the network marketing industry, you need to develop some type of training system for your team.  I once heard that recruiting will make you money, but retention will make you rich.

Without a good training and support system you will have a never ending attrition problem. You will be in the recruit, hope and replace business, rather than the duplication business.  95% of the people you sponsor will need INTENSIVE hand holding and help.  Only the 5% that are leaders will figure things out on their own.  If you ever want to make a lot of money in network marketing and become financially independent you need a training system that people can follow and achieve success.

I think the easiest thing for me to do with you is simply share what I do to support my team.  I’m not saying my method is perfect (far from it), but it’s a good starting point to give you your own ideas to create your own training system.  Feel free to copy my system or take the parts of it that you like.

#1 Weekly Calls – I do a weekly call every Sunday night for my team.  I do 30 minutes of training and 30 minutes of questions and answers.  The calls are also recorded and posted on my team training website so people who missed the call can listen to it at their convenience.

# 2 Initial Training Call – Whenever I sponsor someone new into the business, I do an initial training call with them on phone (or SKYPE).  I give them the 101 overview and teach them how to set up their website, place their first order, sign up people, what to say to people, etc.  I also answer their specific questions and get to know them a little bit.  The call typically lasts about one hour.

#3 Training Manual – I have a 23-page “Getting Started Success Guide” specifically for my team. It’s really a training manual.  I wrote it myself.  It talks about everything they need to know to get started, has sample scripts, ways to get leads, how to order products, what videos to watch, etc.  It’s a quick read, but is loaded with great content.  I make sure that every new team member gets a copy and has it for future reference.

# 4 Welcome Letter and Training CD – I send a welcome letter to every new team member via USPS.  I also include my getting started audio CD, which is about 90 minutes long.  I also include a copy of my team newsletter with it.  This gets sent to everyone in my group, not just the people I sponsor.

# 5 Do One-on-One Coaching When Needed – When needed, I do one on one coaching.  I am very accessible to my team members.  I spend most of my one-on-one time with people who are taking action and doing the work.  I try to train everyone else in a group setting.  I always return phone calls and emails promptly.

# 6 Team Training Website – I’ve created my own team training website where I have tons of resources, scripts, training videos, podcasts, and other things to help my new team members.  I also post team calls on the website.  There is even a “getting started” section on my website for the new people, along with advanced training for people who have been in the business for a while.

# 7 Email Training – I send out two to three emails per week to my team to share information, provide motivation and talk about specials and incentives.  I keep a distribution list and make sure that EVERYONE on my team is on my list (the people who want to be).  That way the information is shared and people know what is going on.

# 8 Monthly Newsletter – I have a monthly newsletter that I mail out via USPS to my personally sponsored people and a few of my key leaders.  I also post this newsletter to my team training website so people can have access to past copies, and the the current edition.  The newsletter features tips, provides recognition, welcomes new team members, and does some brief product training.

Please notice that my system is simple and easy to do.  Anyone can plug-in to the support system I have created and get the support they need to succeed.

Final Thoughts

The bottom line is that you need your own MLM Team Support System.  You need a simple way to give your team the support they need, without taking up all of your time in the process. Following the advice listed above will be a great starting point.

You really are a great support for your team. Sometimes it really gets difficult to get hold of your upline whenever you need support. In order to be a great leader, it is important that your people can have easy access to you whenever needed. These are such impressive sustenance strategies that are simple to follow yet will be very much effective.

I think the real key to being a good leader is to be accessible to your team. You don’t have to know it all or have an intensive training program, but you do need to respond to phone calls and emails promptly. Being accessible is the sign of a good leader.

Based on this list you are a good leader. I like that you take the time to do one-on-one training as you see it is needed. It is good to sort of catch your team when you see them falling and try to help build them back up so they can succeed. It not only demonstrates that you care about the business, but it demonstrates that you care about them as an individual which can go a long way.

It’s true. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. That being said, you still have to be smart how you spend your time. When you have a team of several thousand people you can’t spend one on one time with everyone and still have a life.

This seems like a simple system to use Chuck. It is my opinion that every Network Marketer should copy this system and use it. As you stated, by using a simplified system like this, you free yourself to handle other responsibilities. Without proper support, a team will soon fall apart. Great post.

I think even more important than doing the training is to have some type of team culture where people feel like they belong to something greater than themselves. Just my two cents.
