If you’re like most people you are looking for heavy hitters to recruit into your MLM Business. You’re looking for someone who is business minded who will seize the opportunity and run with it, right from day one. After all, who wouldn’t want to sponsor someone who comes in and explodes the business?
First and foremost, you should NEVER just look for heavy hitters. Heavy hitters are a rare breed. Just ask any top earner in network marketing, real estate, insurance or in any sales job. Most realtors, network marketers and insurance agents have to recruit AT LEAST 100 people just to find one heavy hitter. Yes, you love having these people on your team (and they can make you a lot of money), but your real bread and butter is everyone else! Never forget that.
If you’re only looking for heavy hitters you are leaving a lot of money on the table! You are also excluding way too many people. Remember this it’s a lot easier to sponsor someone who LEADS YOU to a heavy hitter than it is to personally sponsor a heavy hitter yourself.
For every 100 people who even get involved in MLM, only 1 or 2 of them will be (or eventually be) a heavy hitter. That means you would have to approach about 1000 cold prospects to find one heavy hitter (only about 1 in 10 joins MLM and 1 in 100 who do join are a heavy hitter).
I believe it’s a much better approach to find people who are passionate about the product or service and sponsor them into your business. Build an organization of product users and part-timers. Do that and you will find your heavy hitters in DEPTH.
However, if you are still set on looking for heavy hitters to personally recruit, here are some things you can do to meet and sponsor them.
# 1 Build Friendships with Successful Network Marketers – One of the best things you can do is form friendships with the ultra-successful network marketers from a variety of other companies. You have to realize that most heavy hitters won’t just team up with anyone. They want to work with someone they know, like and trust. Your job is to meet as many successful network marketers as you can and build friendships with them. Send them note cards, holiday cards and thank you cards. Call them a few times each year without trying to recruit them. Just make a friend. Let them know what you do, what company you work with, but don’t try to pitch them. Maybe once a year, or every couple years, you can ask them if they are keeping their options open.
# 2 Build Friendships with Sales Professionals – Another good idea is to build friendships with sales professionals who are really good at their job. Connect with the top 1% realtors, mortgage brokers, insurance agents and anyone else in the selling industry. Build friendships with them. Get to know them. Send them referrals. Stay in touch often. Let them know what you do, but don’t pitch them. Just focus on the friendship first and ask them once or twice a year if they are looking for a plan B or if they are keeping their options open.
In order to meet these types of people, the best thing you can do is attend events. Join the local Chamber of Commerce and local business and networking groups. Be an active member and try to form relationships and friendships with the go-getters. Remember, it takes time to make this happen. This is a long-term strategy. It won’t happen overnight.
In addition, you should attend several large generic network marketing events every year. When you go to these events, get around the successful people. Collect everyone’s business card and be proactive and stay in touch. Focus on building the friendship first, not trying to pitch them.
Your ultimate goal is to build a rolodex of successful people and stay in touch.
These are the strategies I use and recommend to find heavy hitters for my MLM Team. Once again, this is a long-term strategy and it SHOULD NOT be your primary recruiting strategy.
At the end of the day, you never really know WHO will be a heavy hitter in your MLM Business. People will often fool you. That’s why I think it’s best to use the first approach I covered in this article: finding product users and building depth. Find your leaders and heavy hitters in depth.
That being said, you should always be on the lookout for other serious network marketers and sales professionals. You should focus on cultivating friendships with these folks, so if they ever decide to change companies or change careers they will consider working with you.
Does that make sense?
I personally would not commit more than 5% of my time and advertising budget looking for heavy hitters. I’m not saying don’t do it. I’m just saying don’t make it your main focus.
I’d like to close out with two last points.
First, for every successful network marketer I know, most of them found their heavy hitters in depth. By building depth you will find key people.
Finally, one heavy hitter can change your life. My personal mentor has one heavy hitter that has brought in a team of more than SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND people. Chew on that for a moment! How much money do you think he makes each month from that one heavy hitter?
