Today, I want to talk to you about the value of having MLM Experience.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that our industry has a ton of critics. People either love us or love to hate us. You can visit websites online that say that MLM ruined their life, their marriage and their finances. You can also find countless success stories. You will find what you are looking for!
As I see it, having experience as a network marketer is very valuable. It helped me immensely, in many different areas of my life, including my relationships, attitude, personal growth and jobs. Network marketing helped me become a better leader and better person. It taught me to think like a champion. It helped me fall in love with reading. It set me on the path to personal growth.
MLM Experience: Reasons to Consider It
In my own words, MLM is nothing more than a personal development course with a compensation plan attached to it. It forces you to grow as a person, learn new skills and step out of your comfort zone (if you want to succeed)! This is a good thing folks.
Here are some ways my MLM Experience has helped me, and how it might help you as well.
Prior to joining the industry, I had horrible people skills. I was cocky, arrogant, and just tough to be around. Because this industry is a “people business” I had to adapt. I became friendlier, more empathetic and more likeable. I learned to see things from the other person’s point of view. These skills have helped me immensely in all areas of my life. If you can’t get along with people, it will be hard to succeed in any job or business.
When you lead a network marketing team, it is a volunteer Army. Unlike corporate America, your team does not have to accept your leadership or do what you tell them. They are each their own boss. That means you need to inspire people by your own personal example. Network marketing helped me become a better leader. The Army got me started with leadership, but this industry fine-tuned it.
The most valuable skill I learned in my MLM Experience is salesmanship. This is one of the highest paying skills in the world. It’s a fact, most people hate to sell. It scares them. But, to succeed in this industry you must LEARN how to sell.
You must learn to sell yourself and sell your ideas. You must work on your influence. You need to help lead people to a decision and close sales, if you want to grow your business. Once you learn how to sell, you become more valuable to any employer you will ever have. Plus, if you decide to start a different type of business, you will already know how to sell.
Network marketing taught me how to think and act like an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is not taught in grade school or in college. I have a master’s degree in Management and I never received one hour of instruction on starting or growing my own business.
In addition, there are millions of people in America alone who want to work for themselves, but cannot afford to go the traditional business route. Network marketing gets them in the door so they can start their own business.
Some of these people will fall in love with the industry and stay, and many will drop out and eventually pursue another type of business. In either case, network marketing got them started on their entrepreneurial path. How much is that worth?
If I had to describe the value of network marketing in just a short sentence, I would describe it as business school in a box. Rather than studying theory and learning from professors who have never owned their own business, you learn from other entrepreneurs. You learn the ropes of running a business and get a free mentor while you do it!
If the only thing I ever received from this industry was the personal development, I would stay here forever! I can’t imagine who I would be, or where I would be in life today, had I NOT found this industry.
Why? This industry taught me how to set goals. It taught me the power of association. It made me want to be the best version of me possible. It set me on the path of lifelong learning and lifelong personal development.
I’m not even a small reflection of the person I was when I joined this industry 18-years ago, and I’m even more excited about who I will become in the next 18-years, because of my ongoing personal development!
Is our industry perfect? Of course not. We have pros and cons like any other industry. It is not for everyone. However, if you are looking to do any of the following things, network marketing is worth considering:
- Learn how to run a business
- Learn how to sell
- Meet people you might not normally meet

- Have a business with practically zero overhead

- Become the best version of you possible
- Be part of something greater than yourself

Will you succeed and make money? Maybe. Maybe not. Will you learn new skills that will help you have a better career, and even prepare you for other business ventures? Absolutely. How much is that worth to you?
