Today, I’d like to share what I consider to be the 10 MLM Commandments. For any Christian reading this post, I’m sure you are familiar with the 10 Commandments from the Bible. The Commandments are a guide path to living a happy, fulfilling and meaningful life.
When it comes to network marketing, I believe there are 10 MLM Commandments. These are not religious things. Instead, these are 10 Commandments I believe everyone in our industry should follow. You could call it a code of ethics or whatever you’d like.
If you do these things day in and day out there is a good chance you can be very successful in your business.
The 10 MLM Commandments
# 1 I will always lead by example and inspire others by what I do.
If you want to grow a big team and succeed in this industry, you need to lead by example at all times, even when no one is watching you. Instead of telling people what to do, you show them what to do. That means that you must inspire others by your actions. Set the pace for your group to follow. Do the things you want your team members to do. You’re constantly prospecting, recruiting and retailing in your business.
# 2 I will never use pressure, hype or lies to recruit someone or sell a product.
You must act like a professional at all times, not like some desperate, high pressure, used car salesman. You never hype people up, lie to your prospects about how much money you make, tell them what you think they want to hear, or pressure someone to sign up or buy from you. Yes, you must always ask for the sale, but you never force what you have to offer on someone else or treat them badly if they do not buy or join.
# 3 I will work with the willing.
You can’t make anyone successful or drag anyone across the finish line. That is not your job. Your job is to support the people who ASK you for your help. It’s not your job to call or motivate anyone. Instead, your job is to help and support the people who SEEK YOU OUT. Your job is to work with the willing. It would be in your best interest to help people get started right, but it’s not your job to manage anyone.
# 4 I will never say or do anything that hurts any other distributor, company, or our profession.
You should never badmouth your upline, downline, crossline, company’s management team, or other companies or distributors in our profession. It’s one thing to think these thoughts. You never voice these thoughts in public. If there is an issue, you deal with the person in private. You will never make yourself look good by trying to make someone else look bad. Be a network marketing professional at all times, an ambassador to the industry.
# 5 I will always do my best and never blame my failure or lack of results on anyone but myself.
You take 100% responsibility for your network marketing business. You realize there is no such thing as a successful victim. You either succeed (or fail) based upon YOUR activity and results. You don’t blame your upline for not helping you. You man up or woman up and realize no one cares about your business as much as you do.
# 6 I will follow my company’s rules and regulations at all times.
You read your company’s distributor agreement and take the time to learn the rules. Once you know the rules, you make sure that you follow them at all times. You encourage your team members to do the same thing. This helps keep you and your company out of trouble.
# 7 I will commit and persist with ONE company.
You must realize that success comes down to finding ONE good company and sticking with it for five or more years. This is not a get rich quick type of business. It takes a TON of hard work and persistence to succeed. You decide you will NOT be a MLM Junkie. Find a company you want to have your problems with and stick with it for the long haul.
# 8 I will enthusiastically share my products and opportunity with new people every day.
You must realize this is a business of exposures. Whoever makes the most exposures signs up the most people and builds the biggest team and makes the most money. You have the responsibility to share the products and opportunity with new people each and every day. Never let a day go by where you don’t contact five to ten new prospects to share what you have with them.
# 9 I will be loyal to my company’s products and services whenever possible.
If your company offers a product or service, you use it, even if it costs more than a similar product. You should be your own best customer at all times. If you don’t believe in your products or services enough to use all of them yourself, how can you ask anyone else to?
# 10 I will seek self-improvement daily and strive to be better tomorrow than I was today.
You should make it a goal to get better and better every single day. You should read books, enroll in automobile university, listen to tapes, attend events and counsel with your upline. Create a personal development plan for life. Your business will only grow as much as you do.
