Today, I want to share my best advice on how to earn six figures in network marketing. Of course, I cannot guarantee you will earn six figures in your company, but these are things I’ve done to earn six figures in the industry (and tips from other six figure earners).
How to Earn Six Figures in Network Marketing
What you see below are TEN things all top earners have in common. It’s difficult to put these in a certain order, but all of these things apply to building a six figure network marketing business.
# 1: Join the Right Company at the Right Time
After 17-years of struggling and only earning peanuts in the industry (never more than $2,000 per month), I finally joined the right company at the right time. I had previously worked with established, long-term companies. I was attracted to older companies because they were safe, reputable, and had been in business many years.
I worked hard in those companies, and made some money, but never built a six-figure income. When I joined my current company, it’s as if the clouds parted, lighting struck, and the floodgates opened.
Now that I can look back and reflect, I credit a lot of my success to joining an under the radar company with great products, a great comp plan, and awesome marketing systems AT THE RIGHT TIME, before everyone else knew about it.
While established companies are very safe and secure, they are typically (not always) a slower build. That’s because they have gone through their momentum and rapid growth phases. Most people have heard of the company before and have preconceived notions about it.
Most of the top earners in those companies joined the company BEFORE the momentum and rapid growth happened. If you don’t believe me, look at your company’s top earners and see when they joined the company. I guarantee at least 80 to 90 percent of them joined BEFORE the company was a household name. They might not have “gotten in early” or “at the beginning” but they did join before the rapid growth started.
# 2: Eliminate Your Option to Quit
We live in a quitter society. Most people quit when things get tough. They give up at the first sign of defeat.
Eliminate your option to quit. Remove the word quit from your vocabulary. Find a way or make one.
In my previous companies, I was excited and worked hard, but I was never 100% all in and sold on that company. I always had a “back up plan” in case things went wrong.
It wasn’t until I eliminated my option to quit that I earned six figures in the industry. It’s easy to throw in the towel when things don’t go as planned, especially if you are not committed to your company or vision.
Burn the bridges. Once you decide you will succeed, do not look back or question your decision. To make a big income you must be “all in”. You can’t dabble or have an exit strategy.
Be part-time with a full-attitude. Have the mindset of “I will succeed with this business or die trying.”
# 3: Launch Your Business
Amateurs start a business whereas professionals launch a business. How you start your business has a huge impact on your long-term success in the business. It’s important to hit the gates running and develop a good story.
To be a top earner, it’s vital that you launch your business. This means you:
- Sign up for your company’s auto-ship
- Complete the getting started training
- Get with your plugged in upline
- Learn your team’s system & attend training
- Make your name’s list of 1,000+ people
- Contact everyone on your name’s list to notify them of what you are doing
- Keep adding new people to your name’s list daily
If you launched your business properly, you should sponsor 30 to 50 people within your first two to three months in the business, and have a solid customer base. Doing so will create momentum and excitement in your business, just want you want. The best way to make this happen is to do a 90-Day Blitz.
If you’ve been in the business for a while, and never properly launched your business, you can re-launch your business following the steps outlined above.
# 4: Follow a Game-Plan
Successful MLM Reps are self-disciplined and manage their time wisely. Many six figure earners still have full-time jobs. If you want to be a top earner, it’s vital that you have a work schedule and daily routine for your network marketing business.
Everything starts with your goals. Write down your one year, one month, weekly, and daily goals. Be as specific as possible. Only set goals that you can control and goals that are quantifiable. Your goals will determine your daily activities.
The next step is to develop your game-plan. In other words, what are you going to do each day to grow your business? What is your daily routine? What activities will you focus on? How will you find new prospects? This is where the rubber meets the road.
Leaders plan out their week each week. They determine what days, what times, and what activities they will do in their business. They never leave things to chance or wing it.
Finally, if you want to succeed with your business, you must be self-disciplined. You must do something to move your business forward DAILY, at least six days a week. I suggest you develop a daily routine and marketing plan for your business.
# 5: Become a Network Marketing Professional
Amateurs don’t get paid. Professionals do. Most people in our industry are amateurs, and yet they wonder why they don’t make money.
If you want to build a successful business of any kind, you need to become a professional. What does that mean?
- You are a student of your business, company, and industry.
- You act as if you have one million dollars invested in your business.
- You are a servant leader and focus on helping others.
- You take pride in what you do.
- You treat everyone with respect.
- You hold the industry in high regard.
- You think of your business as anything but a small business or side hustle.
- You work your business daily because it is a top priority.
You can’t make anyone else a network marketing professional, but you must decide that you will be one if you want to become a top earner.
# 5: Laser Like Focus
Focus is key. If you want to succeed in ANYTHING in a big way, you need laser like focus. What does this mean?
It means you only promote ONE MLM Company. It means you don’t focus on other income streams. It means your business is a top priority, right up there with your faith, family, and job.
I’ve heard several million dollar earners say that “it’s the person who can stay focused and consistent the longest who ultimately wins.” I agree.
This is something most people struggle with: staying focused. Anyone can stay focused for a few weeks or a few months. A select group of people can stay focused for a year or two. But a winner will stay focused and be persistent and consistent as long as it takes.
The only way to really stay focused is to know your why. If you know your why, nothing will distract you or make you quit. If you don’t know your why, you will not survive the setbacks and temporary disappointments you will experience in the business.
# 6: Master Your Skills
It took me a long time to master my skills: many years. Skills pay the bills in our industry. No matter what profession you decide to pursue, there are some basic skills you must master if you want to earn a large income. Network marketing is no different.
The quickest way to master your skills is to roll up your sleeves, get in the trenches and take all out massive action. You will learn more by doing something for an hour or two than you will learn by reading about something for 40-hours.
I’ve never met one six-figure earner in our industry who had not mastered their skills. They knew how to generate leads, follow up, close the sale, promote events, launch new reps, and lead others.
No, you don’t have to master all of these things to make some money in our industry, but you do need to master them if you want to earn the big money in our industry.
If you are a complete newbie, it will more than likely take you three to five years to master these skills, assuming you are in the trenches each day being persistent and consistent. Best of all, you can earn while you learn!
# 7: Put In the Numbers
You can do everything on this list, but if you don’t do this one, you will never be a top earner.
Network marketing is a NUMBERS game. It always has been and always will be. Yes, it is also a game of relationships, but if you don’t put in the numbers you won’t have anyone to build relationships with.
Most top earners have personally sponsored somewhere between 100 and 500 people, over a period of about five to ten years in one company. If you break that down and do the math, most top earners personally sponsor 2 to 4 new distributors every month, month in and month out. That comes out to about 1 new distributor every seven to ten days. Anyone can do that, even a part-timer.
If you talk with two to five prospects daily, five to six days a week, I can guarantee you will personally sponsor at least 2-4 new distributors every month.
The key to recruiting is to keep your pipeline full, have a good follow-up system, and learn how to close. Remember, the average person needs 7 to 20 exposures before they buy or join. If you add five new people to your sales pipeline daily, six days a week, and do a good job with following up, you will be a recruiting machine.
# 8: Follow a System
The system is the solution. All successful businesses are SYSTEMS dependent, not people dependent.
A system is nothing more than a documented way of doing something. Think of it as a series of steps or a formal process.
It’s vital you have a system for you and your team. You want a system to (1) generate leads, (2) train your team members, and (3) help with personal development.
Do not create your own system or “do it your way” if you are new or inexperienced. This is a common, yet huge mistake. Our business is a business of duplication. It’s about a lot of people doing a little bit consistently, not one person doing a lot. Keep it simple and do not reinvent the wheel.
Follow your successful upline’s system UNTIL you are earning at least as much money as they are. At that point, if you want to create your own systems, great.
# 9: Prospecting & Lead Generation
To earn six figures in network marketing, you must have a steady supply of incoming leads and prospects. Without leads, you won’t be in business long.
While our industry was traditionally built face-to-face, you don’t have to do it that way to succeed. There are hundreds of ways to meet people and find prospects. What matters most is you have a simple prospecting and lead generation system that works for you. Some examples include:
- Postcards
- Social Media posts
- Drop Cards
- Business Cards
- Flyers
- Newspaper Ads
- A Sampling System
Ultimately, you want two to five ways to generate leads, so you can keep your pipeline full at all times.
Remember this, the person who generates the most leads will recruit and retail the most and make the most money.
# 10: Mentor & Mastermind
If you want to earn six figures in network marketing, you need a mentor and a mastermind team. This is non-negotiable.
Your mentor should be someone in your plugged in upline, earning at least the income level you desire. In most cases, it will not be your sponsor. You must search upline until you find your mentor.
Your mastermind team could include your mentor, a few of your serious peers, and the most serious people in your team. Your objective is to rub elbows, share ideas, and most importantly, encourage each other.
Network marketing is a team sport. Do not be a lone wolf and try to do everything on your own. You can’t succeed all by yourself, so don’t try to.
A good mentor and mastermind will shorten your success time frame, sharpen your skills, and help keep you motivated.
And the Big One!
Here’s the big one: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.
It’s the truth, your business will only grow as much as you do. Your business will never outgrow you. We are a personal development business with a compensation plan attached to it.
Keep in mind all top earners have gone through a significant amount of personal development prior to becoming a top earner. You must do the same thing. Success never goes on sale. You must pay the full price.
It’s vital to read books, attend events, listen to your mentor, and enroll in automobile university. Invest 20 to 30-minutes per day to GROW as a person. You feed your body daily, so why not feed your brain?
Study sales, leadership, communication, people skills, relationships, goal setting, and countless other topics. Repeat that day in and day out and never stop.
It’s true, the person you become on your journey to success is your greatest reward.
The Best Advice to Earn Six Figures in MLM
After spending almost 20-years in the MLM Industry, here are the two best pieces of advice I have ever heard about what it takes to become a top earner.
Most top earners have been with their company five to ten years, have sponsored 100 to 500 people personally, and make most of their income from three or fewer people. And many of those top earners did not get off to a fast start. ~ Jordan Adler (paraphrased)

Final Thoughts
In conclusion, these are 10 things I did to earn a six-figure income in network marketing. None of these things are hard to do. However, they are EASY not to do. I hope you will evaluate yourself in each area and look for ways to improve upon.
