Welcome to day # 5 of my MLM Boot Camp.
Today, I’d like to spend some time and talk with you about how to launch your network marketing business the right way. If you’ve already been in the business for a while, but never launched your business properly, this advice will help you re-launch your business. It’s never too late to start over with your business.
Most MLM Reps never launch their business. Instead, they “joined” or “started” a business. If you get nothing else out of today’s training, remember this:
Amateurs start a business. Professionals LAUNCH a business.
Let me say it again for the people sitting in the nose bleed seats.
Amateurs start a business. Professionals LAUNCH a business.
How you START your business will have a huge impact in your overall success in the months and years to come. It is vital to launch your business the right way, so you have a great SUCCESS STORY you can share with others. This success story will be one of your most important business tools.
Plus, your immediate success will give you a huge confidence boost and build up your belief in your company, the products, the industry, and most importantly, yourself.
Also, it’s better to start right than it is to start over. If you start your business the right way, you will make money, and you will be able to teach other people how to do what you did.
Tips for Launching Your MLM Business
With no further waiting, here are my simple steps to launch or relaunch your MLM Business.
# 1: Place Your Initial Order & Set Up Your Monthly Auto-ship
The first step to launch your new MLM Business is simple. You must place your first order. If your company offers a “pack” of products, I suggest you buy one of those packs, so you have some different products on hand to try out. Plus, you want to put yourself in a position to maximize the compensation plan.
You also want to set up your monthly auto-ship. This step should take no more than 20-minutes to complete.
Remember, if the products don’t make sense, neither does the business. You should be your own best customer. It’s hard to share or sell a product you don’t believe in enough to use yourself.
# 2: Determine Your Why and Goals
Your next objective to launch your network marketing business properly is to determine your why and goals. I explained how to do this step in a previous lesson, so if you haven’t done that yet, please revisit that page and complete those steps.
If you don’t know your WHY the HOW does not matter. You must have a WHY that sets your world on fire and inspires you to take all out massive action. Otherwise you will quit at the first sign of defeat.
Be as specific as possible when doing this step. Write everything down on paper. Use quantifiable numbers and goals. Edit your list a few times. When you are happy with it, share it with your coach.
# 3: Complete Your Team’s Initial Training
The next thing to do is to complete your team’s initial training. You do not have to be an expert to get started and make money. You do not WANT to be an expert. All you really need to know how to do is share your links, navigate the back office, place an order, sign someone up, etc.
These are the basics. Ask your sponsor or coach to teach you these basic things, if you can’t figure it out on your own. Also, if your team offers a getting started manual or getting started video, take however long it takes to complete that training.
Don’t make the common mistake of giving yourself information overload though. You will learn as you go, and you do not need to know everything before you get started. You simply need to know a few basic things to get started. Here’s a good post with an example getting started training.
# 4: Make Your Name’s List
You’ll be tempted to skip this step. Don’t do it. It’s vital that you write out your name’s list. Without a list of names, your business will not grow.
You know a lot more people than you think you do. Start out by writing down your Facebook friends, LinkedIn connections, email contacts, and phone contacts. For most people this is at least 2,000 names, if not more. You don’t have to contact everyone right away, but it’s important that you write them down on your name’s list.
Use a memory jogger if necessary. Pretend you are getting paid $100 for every name you come up with. If you adopt that mindset, you will create a huge name’s list. Do not prejudge anyone. Just write down everyone’s name.
Don’t worry about recruiting or selling anyone. Don’t worry about who you will contact first, what you will say, or when you will contact them. Just write down your name’s list.
Here’s an article with tips on how to come up with a name’s list.
# 5: Contact 50 People in the Next 48-Hours
The next step to launch your network marketing business properly is to contact 50 people on your name’s list within your first 48-hours in the business. If you do this, you will already be in the top 1% of all network marketers, because most reps never contact that many people during their entire career.
Use the contacting scripts that are provided to you. If you don’t have access to scripts, ask your coach what to say to your prospects. Write it down and practice your scripts for 30-minutes so it flows naturally when you talk with people.
Your job is to NOTIFY people about your new business, not to convince, pressure, or sell someone. Your goal is to acquire a few customers and sponsor a few reps during your first 48-hours in the business, before your products have even been delivered to you.
Talking to 50 prospects in your first 48-hours will help build up your confidence, teach you new skills, give you some experience, and help grow your business quickly.
The best way to launch your MLM Business is to have a launch party at your home. If that is not an option, you could schedule two launch calls with your sponsor. Basically, you invite people to the call or meeting and your sponsor gives the presentation for you, while you watch and learn.
If that option is not available either, you can pick a third-party tool such as a recorded conference call or webinar you can share with your prospects.
# 6: Contact 500-1,000 People in Your First 30 to 90-Days
After you complete the previous step, your next goal is to contact 20+ people per day on your name’s list for your first full month in the business. This will result in massive exposures, new customers, and new reps on your team.
Most people are not willing to do this. But if you want to build a big MLM Business you must do this. It is non-negotiable.
Your goal is to create massive momentum your first 30-days in the business. Starting month two you can divert your efforts, contact fewer people personally, and focus on helping your new team members duplicate what you did.
Remember, this business loves speed. Slow and steady is better than doing nothing at all (but not by much), but taking all out massive action during your first 90-days is where the magic happens.
It is critical that you have a SENSE OF URGENCY with your new business. Most reps do not take their business seriously because they don’t have much money invested in it.
Pretend you took out a second mortgage on your home to join your company and act as if you only have six months to earn back that money. This is the mindset of someone who succeeds in a big way in our industry.
Also, do not make the mistake of reinventing the wheel. If you have someone in your upline who is successful, knows what they are doing, and is willing to help you, humble yourself and follow their lead. This is a business of duplication. You can innovate or change things AFTER you become successful. However, if you are brand new, follow someone else’s lead.
Finally, do not give yourself information overload or think you must know everything BEFORE you get started. The more you know, the worse you will do in the business. Ignorance on fire is much better than knowledge on ice.
All you need to know to get started right, and launch your business properly, is how to make your name’s list and how to invite people. That’s it. Your sponsor can help you with the extra stuff.
In conclusion, most network marketers never launch their business. That’s why most MLM Reps don’t make much money with their business. Remember this:
Professionals launch a business. Amateurs start a business.
Decide that you will be a professional and do what most people are not willing to do.
I really hope you will follow the advice in this article and launch your MLM Business (or relaunch it) the right way.

Thank you so very much Chuck Holmes. These part few days in MLM Boot Camp has been so excited and amazing. I really want to show my appreciation for the level of in-depth knowledge and experience you have shared. I will really appreciate your permission to enable us share with a lot of newbies if this industry and MLM must grow and thrive in the new normal.
The best way to show your appreciation is to become successful and teach what you learn to your team. Nothing would make me happier.
How to calculate commission from top down?
I’m not sure what you are asking me. Can you please clarify? Thank you.
I say thank you for your email, i hope we are success with our team,
I think education is important when promoting offline. Oneday I was at the local flea market, and this guy hands me a newspaper. I thought it was just a general newspaper, but once I was home and actually sat down and read it, it was a entrepreneur newspaper talking about financial freedom, building a home business, and network marketing. Then on the back of the paper, it had his contact info, and the company he uses for the newspapers. That changed everything for me. I thought it was a great offline strategy because I wasn’t offended when he handed me the newspaper. Then yesterday, I came across these Lawn signs in busy intersections. It was promoting a makeup consultation, but once I contacted the company, it was someone in a MLM company. I’ve used bandit signs in the past for real estate, but the competition was high. I think it’s the perfect strategy for your MLM Company. I want to build a offline system my team could duplicate. This is my first time with a product based Company, and I think it’s a good thing for me. It’ll take me out of my comfort zone. Instead of being behind the computer, I now have to do home parties and basically talk to a lot people face to face. With my past companies, I was taught to promote primarily online. I’m glad I finally found a company that is encouraging me to NOT be comfortable.
I truly believe that offline is much better than online. It’s easier, more fun and more duplicatable. The best idea is to get people to contact you first, and then answer their questions and help them get started. You can advertise using any of the methods you mentioned, or whatever else works for you.
Great comment, Tee!
I agree with focusing offline. Network Marketing was built on those traditional methods, and it will always be the best. I have never done offline marketing, but I’m incorporating a marketing plan to start. There is literally no competition offline. I read The Big Idea book by Donny Deutsch, and it stated that you should focus on your city. Become a millionaire or even billionaire in your own backyard. I also think your reps will succeed more if you have that face to face contact sometimes. Online marketing will be secondary when it comes to my business.
Good for you. Plenty of folks have built large MLM Businesses, even in small towns. Start locally and you will naturally develop a national, and potentially international organization.
I think that your “warm market” is best used for practice and to sell your products to them. Just find those that love you the most or owe you the most and they will buy products from you. Even if they cost a little more than at the local Walmart. Practice giving your presentation to your “warm market” as well. Just ask them to do you a favor …
Most of your friends will give you 30 minutes, if you tell them that, “you know this business isn’t right for them.” That you just need to practice on someone. That’s a great “take away,” too.
I’m in agreement with you about the old fashion, belly to belly method of recruiting. You get the best of both worlds.
Social proof in a cozy and safe environment!
After doing this three plus years full time online, I’m about to turn it all off and just focus offline.
Here’s the truth about online MLM.
There is a lot of noise and competition.
The internet is not a solution to your fear of talking to people.
MLM was designed to be built one on one, in a face to face environment.
It’s hard to stand out in the online crowd.
It’s much easier to sponsor someone when you’ve met them in person and shown the plan personally.
Just a few of my thoughts.
You made the statement that it was useless to promote to opportunity seekers. Who are opportunity seekers exactly? And how are they different from offline leads, and talking to anyone on the street? Also, the first day of bootcamp, you said it was best to recruit people already in MLM, but you’re also saying promote offline and talk to anyone within 3 feet of you. Is it best to reach both kinds of people?
An opportunity seeker is someone who is looking at opportunities (requested more information online), but they’v never actually proven to buy anything. What you want to do online is target people who have already bought into MLM before. Those will be your best prospects. When it comes to building your business offline, you can talk to anyone you meet, however, I suggest you focus on prospecting business and success minded people. This will really help you find better quality leads. Many people still build their MLM business offline, so I can assure you it still works. The method you choose will vary based upon your skill-set, strengths and how you want to spend your time.
Hi Chuck! You are such a great writer. Thanks for your good work here… Please, I would like you to help me with a plan on how to advertise my MLM business opportunity on via newspaper ads. I think that would work well. Thanks.
No problem, Chris. Let me know what you need help with.
