By the time you finish reading this post you should have a better understanding about how to grow your business exponentially by using an auto-responder. Let’s get started.
What is an MLM Auto-Responder and How Does It Work?
An auto-responder is a software program that manages your email contact list and automatically adds and removes people when requested. It sends out emails on your behalf, automatically, at a frequency you decide.
It can automatically respond to emails sent to a certain email address. It is an email management program that allows you to build an email list, manage it with ease, and send out emails automatically.
People enter their name and email into a form and they are automatically added to your email list and they will start receiving your emails at the frequency you chose. An auto-responder sends emails to people who give you permission to contact them – it’s not spamming.
Popular MLM Auto-Responder Services
There are many popular auto-responder services in the marketplace. The one you choose is a personal preference. Some of the popular services include:
- Get Response
- Mail Chimp
- I Contact
- Constant Contact
- Infusion Soft
- 1 Shopping Cart
- Office Auto-Pilot
I personally use and recommend Aweber. I’ve been using them for about ten years now and really enjoy their service.
I suggest you compare at least three different auto-responder services BEFORE you choose one. That way you can be an educated consumer.
Reasons Why You Need an MLM Auto-Responder for Your Network Marketing Business
Here are 12 good reasons you should use an auto-responder to help you grow your network marketing business.
# 1: To build a list of leads and customers. I know you’ve heard it before. The money is in the list. The single greatest asset for most businesses is their customer and prospect lists.
# 2: Most people won’t buy from you the first time they meet you. The average person needs at least five to ten follow-ups before they decide to buy or join. You need an automated way to stay in touch with them. An auto-responder can do that for you.
# 3: To build a relationship with your leads. People like to do business with people they like, know and trust. Your auto-responder helps you do this by communicating with people frequently. After a period of time, your prospects learn what you are all about. You build a relationship with them, which leads to increased business.
Since you can write automated messages in advance and schedule the messages to go out to your subscriber list automatically on any date you specify and any time of day that you specify, your messages can reach all of your subscribers with very little effort on your part. The autoresponder does all the work for you automatically 24/7. When subscribers hear from you on a regular basis you build an expectation that they will continue to hear from you in the future.

# 4: To educate others about your products and business. Your auto-responder will send out educational emails automatically, which helps educate your prospects to see if what you are offering them is a good fit for them.
# 5: To follow-up and stay in touch frequently. You are competing with hundreds of other businesses for your prospect’s attention. Staying in touch frequently keeps your name in your prospect’s mind at all times.
# 6: To convert prospects into paying customers or distributors. Your auto-responder does the sifting and sorting for you, so it won’t take any of your time. You’ll only deal with interested prospects who contact you first.
# 7: To leverage yourself. Using an auto-responder gives you leverage. If you had to follow-up with all of your leads physically, or email them one at a time, you wouldn’t be able to do it. Your auto-responder works 24/7, even while you sleep.
Businesses set up email sequences to save time, rather than having to email individual customers. It frees them up to take care of other tasks, while the bulk of their sales and marketing messages take care of themselves.
# 8: Provide answers to FAQs. Your auto-responder can automatically answer the most frequently asked questions you receive, so you have less incoming calls and emails.
# 9: Share updates and critical information. When you have an important update or announcement, you can send out a quick email to ALL of your prospects at one time, at the push of a button.
# 10: To get people to CONTACT YOU first. What I love most about my auto-responder is it sifts and sorts my prospects for me and gets interested people to call or email me. This is what you want to happen. It puts you in the driver’s seat.
# 11: To promote events, specials and incentives. Use your emails to promote events, specials, and incentives. Whenever you find out about one of these things, send out a quick email to let your list know about it.
# 12: Drive traffic to your blog or website. Sending out frequent emails is a great way to drive traffic to your website. You can include a link to your website in each email.
Marketers use email autoresponders to direct subscribers to video channels, blogs, websites, discussions on socials and so forth. These different channels display information regarding a company and help the prospects or customers better understand the products or services offered by a brand. This results in both traffic and conversion increases as the users have access to facts that influence their buying decisions.
Segmenting Your Email Lists
When it comes to your network marketing business, you want to create three separate LISTS within your MLM auto-responder account. These lists include:
- Team Members

Tips for Writing Good Emails
Here are some simple tips for writing good emails that convert.
# 1: Pick a TOP NOTCH Subject Line. The subject line is the most important part of your email. Be sure you pick a catchy subject line that grabs their attention. If you have an hour to write an email spend at least 20-minutes developing a good subject line.
An email with a blank subject line will likely get deleted, lost, or immediately irritate the recipient, who is forced to open the email to figure out what it’s about.
# 2: Short and to the point. The best emails are short and to the point. People are busy. Do not write essays in your emails. Get to the point quickly and stay on point. Each email should have ONE key point, and should be no more than three to five short paragraphs.
# 3: Appeal to people’s emotions. People are emotional creatures. Facts are boring. Learn to tell good stories and make sure people know how they will benefit from reading your email and doing what you are asking them to do.
The marketing tactics of businesses should be focused on customizing the client experience to make each interaction meaningful and valuable. Personalizing your automated replies makes your customers feel good (if you do it right) because it helps you say something that’s actually helpful and targeted.

# 4: Conversational in tone. Your emails should be conversational in tone. Write as if you are talking to someone. Avoid institutional writing or academic writing.
# 5: Proofread. Check your emails for typos and grammatical mistakes. The grammar Nazis are alive and well.
Make sure your auto reply is free from spelling and grammatical errors, adopts a friendly and professional tone, and is easy to understand.
MLM Auto-Responder Tips for Success
Here are some of my best success tips for using your MLM Auto-Responder.
# 1: Communicate frequently, minimum three times a week. The biggest mistake I see marketers make is not communicating with their email list frequently. The best marketers I know communicate with their list DAILY. That might sound extreme to some businesses, so I would recommend you communicate at least three times per week.
# 2: Send out a weekly email newsletter. Send out a weekly email newsletter with educational materials. Make the newsletter interesting, about 80% content and 20% marketing messages.
Your newsletter content must be educational. Subscribers and audiences look for relevant and timely information. You can include promotions if you have any big news about your product, service or organization to share.
# 3: Repurpose your content. You can repurpose your blog posts, podcasts, and videos by putting them in emails and sending them out to your list.
# 4: Sell with your signature file. Your signature line in your MLM Auto-Responder email should be used to sell your product or service. Ads a P.S. line and have your marketing message there.
# 5: Use tracking links to see who opens your email. Always use tracking links in your emails so you can identify what links are being clicked and where and how people make purchases. If you don’t track it, you won’t know what’s happening and you won’t be able to improve it.
A key advantage of using an autoresponder service is its ability to store statistics. Autoresponders are often bundled with measuring devices to record statistics about your website’s performance. The statistics they compile include the number of emails actually opened by recipients, time of the day when most emails were opened, the number of new subscribers gained each day and so on. With this data in hand, you can improve on all these grounds by learning from your mistakes. You can modify future messages to include more information from emails that generated the most interest, and you can modify the timings during which you send out the maximum emails to your subscriber base.
How to use Your MLM Auto-Responder to Build Your Business Online
Step # 1: Choose Your Auto-Responder Service
First and foremost, you need choose your auto-responder service. Research three or four different services and pick the one that is best for you. Cheaper is not always better. More expensive is not always better either. What matters most are the deliverability rates and ease of use.
Step # 2: Create Your Lists
Once you have your MLM Auto-Responder, you need to create your lists. Each list is simply a segmented group of people. One list would be for your customers, one for your team, and one for your prospects.
No matter the size of the business, prospects on an email list can prove vital in shaping the success of your marketing campaigns.
Step # 3: Write Your Follow-Up Messages
Next, you need to create your follow-up messages and delivery sequence. Ideally, you want to write at least 10-20 follow-up messages for EACH list. You can start with a welcome message, to thank people for subscribing, and let them know what your list is all about and how often they can expect to hear from you.
The next thing you do is write the rest of your follow-up messages for each list. You want your email messages to EDUCATE your list, rather than try to sell them. Your ultimate goal is to build a relationship with the people on your list, so they like, know, and trust you and WANT to do business with you. The best way to do that is to provide value and TEACH your prospect everything you know.
Step # 4: Choose Your Delivery Sequence
Once you have your follow-up messages written you need to set a delivery sequence. I’ve tried many different delivery sequences myself and I’ve found that sending a message every two to three days works best for me. That is what I use myself recommend.
Here’s an example of what you might want to do with each list.
For Your Team
- 30 follow-up training emails
- A daily tip for their first thirty days in the business
- Frequently Asked Questions
- Weekly updates with specials, conference call information and team updates
- Your monthly newsletter
For Your Customers
- 10-20 messages educating them about different products
- Answers to frequently asked questions
- A weekly email with specials
- Your monthly newsletter
For Your Prospects
- 10-20 messages explaining the business
- Frequently Asked Questions
- Weekly specials and promotions and incentives
- Your monthly newsletter
A great email autoresponder sequence helps you create a consistent and customised path of communication with every new subscriber. This creates an experience for them while helping them understand your core message. When this experience is really good, the subscriber gets into a habit of reading your email newsletter. Hence, boosting your email marketing campaign.
The Two Types of Email Messages
In your MLM Auto-Responder you have two types of messages: follow-up and broadcast. Your follow-up messages are the messages you write as part of a follow-up sequence. Everyone on your list gets these messages in sequential order.
The second type of message is a broadcast message. This is a ONE-TIME message you can send out when you have an important update or information to share with your list. It’s not part of your pre-written emails.
I try to send out one broadcast message a week to all my lists, in addition to the scheduled follow-up messages. I do this when I have special promotion, updated information, or anything important to share. I use a broadcast message to send out my email newsletters as well.
Sample Email Follow-Up Sequences
What I should do now is give you a sample follow-up sequence, just to give you some ideas. In this example, I’ll pretend we are creating a follow-up sequence for our prospects. Here’s what I would do.
- Email # 1: Welcome Message
- Email # 2: Your Personal Story with the Company
- Email # 3: 10 Things You Love About Your Company
- Email # 4: Common Questions and Answers
- Email # 5: Common Myths
- Email # 6: The Benefits of a Home Based Business
- Email # 7: A Story About Your Favorite Product
- Email # 8: Your System for Building a Business
- Email # 9: An Invitation to Contact You
- Email # 10: Your Company in the News
- Email # 11: A Review of Why People Don’t Join
- Email # 12: A Coupon for 25% off Their First Order
- Email # 13: What You Will Do to Help Your New Team Member
- Email # 14: 60 Day Follow-up
- Email # 15: 90 Day Follow-up
Messages one through thirteen would go out every three days. Message fourteen would go out three weeks after message thirteen, so it showed up on day sixty. Message fifteen would go out thirty days after that.
The real beauty of this sequence is that (1) you are staying in touch with your prospect minimum twice per week, (2) you are educating them about the business and products, and (3) you are getting them to like, know, and trust you.
Some of your hot prospects will join right away. Some won’t ever join. Many others will join three to twelve MONTHS from now, when the timing is right for them. The beauty of having an MLM Auto-Responder is it lets your prospects simmer in the crock pot until they are ready to get started.
In your email messages, don’t use pressure or hype. You simply educate and offer value. As a result, they will see you as an expert, someone serious who can help them, and as a result, some of them will want to do business with you.
How it Works for Me
Most people who opt-in my MLM Auto-Responder don’t end up joining my team for at least three to six months. Chew on that! Some join right away, but most people don’t.
Because I have an automated follow-up system in place, I stay in touch often, my prospect doesn’t forget about me, and when the timing is right for them, they reach out to me. That’s exactly what you want in your business.
Isn’t this a lot better than just talking to someone one time and then moving on the next person? I think so.
You have to remember that most people need to see a message at least 10-20 TIMES before they will respond and take action. Your MLM Auto-Responder keeps your message in front of your prospect until they buy, die, or unsubscribe. To me, that is awesome.
The Best MLM Auto-Responder for Network Marketers
To me, Aweber is the best MLM Auto-Responder service. I’ve been using their service for almost ten years now and I absolutely LOVE IT! Here’s why I recommend Aweber for network marketers.
# 1: Drag and Drop Message Editor: This lets you edit your messages quickly and easily. You just type in your text, click a few buttons, and your email will look professional.
# 2: Beautiful Email Templates: They have tons of email templates to choose from. You simply pick the template you want to use and you are good to go. You can even create your own custom template if you want to.
# 3: RSS to Email: You can take your RSS Feed from your blog and upload it into Aweber so it sends out emails automatically. For example, whenever you create a new blog post, it automatically emails your list.
# 4: Custom Sign Up Forms: Aweber offers lots of neat custom sign up forms that you can use on your blog, capture page or website. You can even turn the forms into a capture page themselves.
# 5: Email Newsletters: I’m a big fan of email newsletters. Within Aweber, you can create custom newsletters. There are tons of templates to choose from or you can create your own template.
By comparison to its competitors, Aweber provide one of the largest sets of HTML e-newsletter templates available: there are over 700 available.

# 6: Great Customer Support: Aweber offers customer support seven days a week. The customer service reps are knowledgeable, helpful, and very nice. I’ve only had to call a couple of times during the past few years and I always got my problems solved quickly.
# 7: Subscriber Segmenting: You can look at your email lists and segment your subscribers. In other words, you can see which customers are opening your emails, which customers are clicking on links and which ones are buying. You can then segment these folks and send them exclusive offers. You can also segment people by country.
# 8: Industry Leading Deliverability: This is without a doubt the # 1 reason I chose Aweber. My emails get delivered and get past the spam filters (in most cases). Most of my emails end up in someone’s inbox, not their spam folder.
As a veteran of the industry, AWeber has been able to maintain high deliverability rates, close to 98%. This means unless you really are spamming strangers, your emails will get through, and you can avoid email backscatter or being caught in a greylist. You can even check the likelihood of your email being marked as spam by running it through filters similar to what email providers themselves use.
# 9: Unlimited Image Storage: You can upload as many images as you want into Aweber. These are images you can use on your forms or in your emails.
# 10: Priced Fairly: Aweber is priced very fairly. Your price will vary based upon how many subscribers you have on your list. Aweber also offers a $1 trial period for your first month so you can try it out pretty much risk free. Plus, there are no long-term contracts and you can cancel at any time.
