MLM Advertising Online: Tips for Success

Today, I want to discuss MLM Advertising Online.  Lots of folks are interested in advertising and building their network marketing business online.  There is something sexy and exciting about the internet. Most folks think the internet is the solution to ALL of their MLM Problems. However, most folks who take their business online quickly discover that online MLM is even harder than offline MLM.

Competition is fierce.  People are bombarded with advertising messages 24/7 online. Attention spans are short.  All of these thing make online advertising difficult.

Yes, it can be a great way to build your MLM Business, but you can’t follow the standard approach and just try to pitch your business opportunity.  That is a quick way to lose money and fail.  Trust me, I can speak from personal experience.

What I want to do in the paragraphs below is share a few tips for success to advertise your MLM Business Online.  These are all things I have learned through trial and error, mostly by doing things wrong at first.

# 1 Never Pitch Your Business Opportunity Online

Don’t place ads about working from home, building a residual income, starting a business or making an extra $1k to $5k per month.  Most people have seen THOUSANDS of these ads and they tune them out because they know they are network marketing ads.  Every time I have ever advertised a business opportunity online I lost money and got bad results.  Just something for you to think about.  This is the approach that 99% of network marketers use when they try to advertise online, and they all get horrible results.

# 2 Your Only Goal is to Generate Leads and Build a List

When you do advertise, you want to use a two-step selling process.  This means that rather than advertising something to sell, you give away something for FREE to generate a lead. You focus all of your efforts on building a list.  This is an email list of people who “opt-in” to your offer and give you permission to email them on a regular basis.  As you generate leads, you will introduce them to your MLM Products and Business later on down the road.

# 3 Give Away Something for Free

If you’re going to advertise anything at all online, advertise something for free, such as a free report, a free CD, free eBook, free sample, free DVD, free coaching session, product sample, or something else. This will help you stand out in the crowd and it will allow you to build your list. Most people are MUCH more receptive to a free offer than buying something. Remember this, if you send 100 people to a page to buy something you might get one sale, maybe two.  Send those same 100 people to an offer for something free and you might generate 20-30 leads. Chew on that!

# 4 Be Different from Everyone Else

One of my best online advertising tips is to be different than everyone else.  Have a unique selling proposition.  Look at what everyone else in the industry is doing and find a way to be different, so you can stand out in the crowd.  One of the best things you can do is study successful marketers from other industries and copy some of their methods.

For example, my unique selling proposition is to be the guy that educates others about network marketing.  I don’t use hype or pressure.  I don’t try to sell anyone or convince anyone to work with me.  I call a spade a spade.  I use attraction marketing to educate others and be an ambassador to the industry.  You don’t need to use the same USP that I do, but you definitely need one.

# 5 Sell Generic Training Products or Information and Then Back End People with Your MLM Company

Quite perhaps the best thing you can do is promote generic products that appeal to your target market.  For instance, if you are trying to recruit other network marketers into your business, I would suggest that you promote a training course, system, or lead program that will HELP them solve their problems in their business.  This course will provide INSTANT profits for you, which will help pay for your advertising, so you can build your list for free!  Just remember that it’s a lot easier to sell someone information that will help them than it is to go out and sponsor someone.

Putting It All Together

If I had to boil all of this down into a nutshell, this is what I would tell you.  Advertise something for free to generate a lead so you can build a list.  Promote a variety of different affiliate products and products to your list so you have multiple streams of income.  Finally, offer your MLM Products and business opportunity to your list at a future date, once they know you, like you and trust you.

In summary, these are my best tips for success with MLM Advertising Online.  I do believe that the internet is a very powerful and effective way to reach people, and generate leads, IF you follow the right approach.  Follow the advice in this article and you will be well on your way.

  1. Initially, I was opposed to the whole ‘Give Away Something for Free’ model, but it does indeed work. By offering a free product/service I have found more people who are willing to return and inquire about the rest of my products and my business. They are enticed and feel welcomed by the act and are usually always interested in more information. (P.S. I learned this tip from you, so thank you).

    • This strategy works really well in all of my businesses. I recommend it to everyone.

  2. There has to be a fine balance between offering perks and rewards for your customers and doing a good job. You cannot rely on bells and whistles to keep customers happy and coming back but you also cannot rely on your own strength and abilities at all times either. Balance is the key to success.

    • Yes, you need to take care of your customers and have a good product line. You also have to get good at advertising to keep finding new customers.

  3. How interesting that you do not recommend promoting your business opportunity on line. At first I thought that was questionable advice, but then realized that I do exactly what you say most people do: I must see dozens of such ads (if not hundreds) a month, and tune every single one of them out. All they do is further desensitize me to such advertising. It is far better to offer a coupon or free product, and then lead with your product. Try to find something new.

    • You make some great points Faye. The problem with just promoting a business opportunity is that most people will not be interested. Most people don’t want a business of their own. Most people ignore ads online. That’s why you need to find unique ways to stand out in the crowd. Giving away something for free is a good starting point. Using a two-step selling process is just as important.

    • On top of people being bombarded with network marketing advertisements online, another thing that many people do not realize is: search engines like Google, Bing and others are not MLM friendly. The internet has been swamped with MLM advertisements in many styles and formats.

      I do also like the system of offering a free eBook, whitepaper or some other educational material. When doing so, you capture the person’s contact information. At this point you start sending educational newsletters with information about your products or services. You just show them, and if the ask more, that is your “in.”

      When it comes to network marketing, you have to be careful how you advertise online, or you will get a spam reputation.

  4. With so much competition prevailing in the network marketing business, it is crucial to have a competitive advantage and be different from what other businesses are doing. There must be a WOW factor that would attract clients towards your services. Advertising, promotion and generation of leads are all important aspects of making your business grow.
