In today’s post, I’d like to share some of my best marketing tips for MLM Reps.
This is a weird subject in our industry. Most network marketers are never taught anything about marketing. Instead, they are taught prospecting.
Prospecting is when you seek people out. Marketing is when you advertise or leverage attraction marketing and get people to contact you first. Both methods work. Neither method should be neglected.
Ultimately, you should start with prospecting, work through your warm market, and then have a solid marketing plan when you venture into the cold market. Make sense?
My Top Marketing Tips for MLM Reps
It’s better to target 100 people 10 times each than 1,000 people on time.
Keep in mind most prospects will need to see your message at least 10-20 times before they respond favorably. This is the primary reason big businesses spend so much money on advertising. They want to keep their message in front of their prospects as much as possible, UNTIL the prospect is ready to buy.
It’s easier to sell a product or service to someone already buying a similar product or service than it is to get someone to create a new spending habit.
You can’t sell steak to a vegetarian, so why try? Many people in our industry spend lots of time trying to convince people to buy something they don’t want or can’t afford. You would get much better results if you focused on your target market. Spend some time to determine WHO is already buying similar products or services and focus your marketing efforts on them.
The sniper approach is much better than the shotgun approach. With the sniper approach, you pick a target market and focus on them exclusively. With the shotgun approach you target everyone.
No one goes to McDonald’s because they want high quality food or great service. Instead, people visit that business because they want food fast and they want it cheap. McDonald’s understands this in their marketing. You want to take the same approach in your network marketing business. Figure out your “ideal” prospects and then focus your time, money, and energy on reaching out to them.
It’s much easier to recruit when you learn marketing and you get prospects to come to you first.
Prospecting is when you chase people. Marketing is when you get people to chase you. Both methods work. However, the business is much simpler and more enjoyable when you get prospects coming to you first. The only two ways to do this that I know of are attraction marketing and advertising. Set aside some money each month for an advertising budget. Learn the principles of attraction marketing. While you do these two things keep prospecting UNTIL your marketing is bringing in a steady flow of prospects consistently.
You should have a written marketing plan for your business outlining your target market, marketing budget, and daily marketing activities.
Never “wing it” with your marketing and advertising. Develop a written plan and be deliberate with everything you do. Failing to plan is planning to fail.
It’s vital to focus on 2-5 marketing strategies max, rather than try to do too many things at once.
You want several effective lead generation and marketing strategies, but not too many at once. Start out with 1-2 strategies. Master those strategies, put them on auto-pilot, and then add a few new strategies to the marketing mix. Ultimately, you want 5+ good ways to generate endless leads so you aren’t 100% dependent on one specific method.
Your only daily goal should be the number of new people you add to your sales pipeline each day.
Goals are a good thing. However, it’s important to set goals that you can control. You can’t determine who buys, joins, or does something, but you can control how many new people you add to your sales pipeline every day. My goal is to add at least 30 people to my sales pipeline daily, Monday through Saturday. This gives me plenty of prospects to converse with and always leads to new customers and distributors each month.
Your best source of new customers and distributors are your former customers and distributors. Stay in touch often.
Just because people go inactive or quit does not mean they are gone forever. Stay in touch with every active and inactive customer and distributor FOREVER. You can win back the business of many of these people who stop ordering if you stay in touch and provide great customer service.
Your database is your most valuable business asset. Keep a database of everyone you talk to (ever) about the products or business. Over a period of a few years, this can easily have 5,000 to 10,000 names in it.
I hope you’re doing this. Build, add to, and safeguard your database. It is valuable. Over the course of a few years in this industry you can build up a huge database of people. If you stay in touch with these people often and never use pressure or hype, you will sign up a lot of these people in due time. Keep information such as name, address, email, phone number, occupation, family, notes from prior conversations, and any additional information you deem important.
Even if you market online, take the relationship OFFLINE as quickly as possible, so you can cultivate a good relationship.
The internet is an incredible lead generation device. However, you can’t rely exclusively on the internet to build relationships with your prospects after you meet them. Some folks think they can just hide behind their computer, do internet marketing, not talk to anyone, and build their network marketing business. Not true. You can use the internet to meet people, but you still need to add the personal touch and build a relationship with each prospect. Meet them online and then communicate by phone, text, email, mail, Facebook, face to face, and a variety of other methods.
Find creative ways to be different and stand out in the crowd. Whatever you do, don’t try to be like everyone else and don’t be boring.
Look at the masses and do the opposite. This is some of the best MLM Advice I have ever received. Don’t try to copy people. Be unique. Be different. Stand out in the crowd and get noticed.
Remember the three M’s. Your market, your message, and your media. In other words, who will you reach, what will you say, and how will you reach them.
I learned the three M’s from Dan Kennedy. Basically, before you spend any money on advertising or marketing, you should spend the time to identify your three M’s. Who is your target market? What is the best way to reach them? What will you say to them to encourage them to do business with you? Once you know the answers to these questions, life will be better for you.
Study marketing and lead generation like your life depends upon it.
The real role of any entrepreneur is to make the cash register ring. When you own a business, you are in SALES, like it or not. It behooves you to learn everything you can about marketing. Attend workshops and seminars, read books, find a mentor, and experiment with different things. Even an average product can outsell an amazing product if it is marketed better.
In conclusion, these are my best marketing tips for MLM Reps. Apply these principles in your business and watch your business grow.
