Making My First Ten Million by Brian Carruthers – Book Review

I’m a big fan of Brian Carruthers.  Brian is a seven figure earner with Legal Shield (formerly Pre-Paid Legal).  He is a true ambassador to our industry.  His teachings are practical, relevant and on point. What I like most about him is his no-nonsense and no hype approach!  He is a true man’s man!

I recently ordered a copy of his book on eBay.  The name of his book is “Making My First Ten Million” and the book is designed for prospecting.  It’s a short book of just 32 pages and can be read in less than 20 minutes.  That’s the beauty of it.

The book talks about why everyone needs some type of leveraged income and why network marketing is the best way for the average person to do that.  He shares his story as a realtor and then his journey into network marketing.

You can give this book to your prospect, have them read it, and then have them be open minded to listen to a business presentation (most people anyway).  Basically, the book does most of the heavy lifting for you and helps you qualify prospects, before you show them the plan.  This lets you work smart.  It’s a great third party tool that every network marketer should use.

# 1 Money can solve many problems in life.  Money is neither good or bad.  Money simply makes you more of what you already are.  Money in the hands of a good person can do great things.  Most people could solve most of their problems in life if they made more money.

# 2 If you can change your mind, you can change your bank account.  Most of us are our own worst enemy.  We have been programmed to live mediocre lives.  Many of us have been programmed to think that money is bad.  Never forget about the law of attraction and what you think is what you attract.

# 3 If your goal is just to earn money each month to pay bills or pay off debt, your wealth will never grow.  To make it big in life you have to think big.  Small goals won’t get you very far.  It’s better to shoot for the moon and miss, but hit the stars, than set a low goal and hit it.

# 4 When 100% of your income comes from 100% of your efforts alone, that is a recipe for disaster.  When your income relies on you alone, get ready to eat a big lunch.  The moment you lose your ability to work or no longer want to work, your income goes away.

# 5 He made millions because he earned a cut of every commission from all the houses his 1000+ agents sold.  Real estate brokers and network marketers all have leverage.  It’s better to earn 1% of 100 people’s efforts than 100% of your own.  Leverage is a powerful thing.

# 6 The entrepreneurial education I gained from the experience was far bigger than the initial earnings I generated.  Network marketing is one of the best business schools around.  Not only do you get paid to learn, but you also learn new skills that will help you in many areas of your life.

# 7 As soon as your company finds someone who can do your job faster or cheaper, loyalty is out the window and you are replaced.  Loyalty in the business world does not exist anymore. Companies are constantly looking for ways to outsource, down size and save money.  To succeed, you have to look out for yourself.

# 8 The more value you deliver, the more money you earn.  We all get paid based upon the value we bring to the marketplace.  If you want to make more money you have to increase your value.

# 9 When you believe in what you are sharing with others, it will not seem like selling to you or them.  This really is a sharing industry, not traditional selling.  Everyone in life is a network marketer.  Most people simply don’t get paid for it.  We all naturally share things with our friends and family.

# 10 Don’t listen to those who don’t have what you want.  Only take advice from people who are qualified to give it.  Be careful who you listen to.  You might end up just like them.

  1. Point #4 is so relevant. I had the realization one day after getting very ill for an extended period of time that relying solely on my ability to work was not good enough, because when I was out of work I wasn’t getting paid and that financial strain was a burden. I needed to be able to make money even when I wasn’t physically present or out and about. MLM proved to be one of the solutions to that problem for me.

  2. There are some great quotes here from Brian Carruthers. I have always been a huge fan of the Legal Shield system. We all need legal help from time to time, and this system is much more cost effective.

    The quote that really hits home is the last one#10–Don’t listen to those who don’t have what you want.

    I have had to learn this the hard way. We sometimes listen to people’s opinions and then when we look at their lives, we wonder why we would want to be like them. Just because someone sounds like they have all the answers doesn’t mean they do. Many times, it is the quiet people that have more wisdom.
