Make More Friends and Make More Money in MLM

Another important lesson I learned from Holton Buggs is that if you want to make it big in MLM, you have to learn how to make more friends.  What I want to do in this post is share what that means to me and to give you some helpful tips to do it.

First and foremost, network marketing is a relationship business.  Yes, you have to learn how to be good at sales, marketing and lead generation, too, but your long-term success will come from building strong friendships with other leaders.

I really learned this lesson while I was in Amway.  Many of the successful Amway reps have had large teams, with the same folks, for 30 to 40 years (or more).  Chew on that for a moment!

One of the reasons they can do this is that they focus on building strong friendships within their team.  It might be easy to quit a business, but it’s much harder to quit on a friend. Please remember that.  When you invest your time in others, helping them reach their goals, they will know that you care, and are a true friend.

When you are prospecting people, focus on the relationship first.  Most people won’t partner up with you if they don’t know you, like you and trust you, anyway.  Get to know your prospects on a personal level. Find out what their goals and dreams are.  Find out what makes them tick.  And let them know that you are a genuine, nice person who is willing to help them pursue their goals, if they want you to.

Another good tip I have is to work on your people skills.  Even if you are naturally introverted or shy, you can still learn to step out of your comfort zone and and become a people person. Read books.  Hang around extroverts and try to develop a magnetic personality. And the best tip I can offer you is to be a good listener.  You have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Use them in that proportion.

Furthermore, do fun things with your team.  Have events that are not business related and do fun things together.  Have picnics, BBQ, go rollerskating, visit theme parks, etc.  This will help improve your relationship with your team members and build stronger friendships. This will reward you personally AND it will help keep your business intact.  After all, who doesn’t like to have fun?

Final Thoughts

The bottom line is that the better you get at making friends, the better you will do in your business.  Study most of the top earners and you will quickly discover that they are amazing at building long-term relationships with their team.  If you want to make it big in MLM, you must do the same thing.  Make more friends and make more money in MLM!

    You hit a nail on the head here. Friendship is what makes the world go round. If it wasn’t for having friends, I would be nowhere. I have heard some people say that they don’t hardly have any friends. I ask what they are doing to get friends. I watch as they shake their heads and say not much. They tell me that they just can’t go up and talk to someone they don’t know like I do. If we really consider it, every friend we have was at one time a stranger to us. It just takes conversing a little bit. The part about having two ears and one mouth is great. If we listen more than we talk to someone, we are well on the path to having a new friend.

      In any business, you need to build relationships. People like to do business with people they know, like and trust. Make a friend and get a customer for life AND a friend! Talk about a win-win.

        This is where many fail in MLM; they go in for the hard sale instead of just making a friend. Overall, people are so sick of sales people. They have them trying to sell them everything on a day by day and hour by hour basis. What people do want are friends. If a person likes you and there is a friend to friend relationship, they will then buy what you are selling. I believe this should be preached to anyone who sells for a living.
