It is my great pleasure today to interview Lindsey Blackburn. Lindsey is a former teacher turned network marketing professional and entrepreneur.
In today’s interview, she will share her story about how she builds her network marketing business and how she uses Yoobly to learn new skills, and grow her business online.
Can You Tell Us a Little Bit About Yourself, Lindsey?
My name is Lindsey Blackburn. I am a native Californian, where I started teaching. I met my husband at a teacher’s conference. Lots of good memories from California. After I got married we moved to a small town in Ohio called Delaware.
I am a full-time working mom of two beautiful children. Currently, I am a consultant in the field of school improvement and a run my business called Whole Life Health and Whole Life Wealth in the pockets of my life.
My focus is centered around educating people on the health benefits of natural products instead of running to the pharmacy when you feel sick. Whole Life Health is a community of like-minded people who share their knowledge on how to heal the mind and body naturally.
Whole Life Wealth is for those who want to take the passion for natural health and create a business around it. I provide training on essential oils and how to effectively build and maintain a business. It really has transformed people lives and families for the positive. I am very proud of the work that I have been able to accomplish.
When Did You First Start Your Business and Why?
My essential oil business journey began in the summer of 2016 when I was pregnant and started to become more aware of my surroundings.
I was concerned with what I was bringing through the threshold of my home. Once I did a Google search about toxins in household cleaners and the effects on your little ones, I could never go back to bleach and chemicals again.
Seeking another solution to keeping a clean home without the use of harsh chemicals I found my network marketing company, or maybe they found me.
I was determined to make better choices for my family’s health and share this new knowledge of healthy living with those around me. The whole process was very inspiring and empowering.
I am an educator by trade, so it comes naturally for me to teach others. The transition to starting a business around educating others about essential oils and becoming financially independent was a no-brainer for me.
I want to help people improve their current wellness and also their financial situation to fix others’ needs and woes.
My business has allowed me to fulfill my life’s passion as an educator without the shackles of a low salary cap. It’s empowering to know that I am in control of my own destiny doing what I love.
What Excites You About Your Business the Most, Lindsey?
The number one reason I am excited about my business is the sky is the absolute limit. There are no limits on how fast you can grow and how you grow. It is all right there for me and there is a lot of room still left at the top.
I am so excited about the message of living a healthier life by controlling what we put in and on our bodies. Our society and our government have done a terrible job at educating us and protecting us against these everyday poisons that sit on our store shelves, and this information is just too important not to share with others. It is the right thing to do.
One more thing is that I’m getting to do things, all of the things, that I sought for my professional life. I get to teach, build relationships with others, check-in on them and care for them. And also lead a team that’s setting goals and accomplishing them. Overall, it’s just a really good fit!
Can You Tell Us About Your Team, How Many People You’ve Recruited and How Yoobly Has Helped You Grow Your Business?
I have recruited 84 people on my team and recently just advanced another rank last month. I’m growing every week. The progress is really exciting.
I am projecting to rank advance to the Silver rank within six months or sooner. The ultimate goal is to hit Platinum in 20 months or less. The Platinum rank is four strong business builders directly under me.
How am I going to get there? My current business plan is to nurture my existing team by educating them how to build their own business and best practices for their products.
While I am still actively recruiting on social media and face-to-face, my main focus is strengthening my existing team.
I have a lot of momentum right now. I’ve planted a lot of seeds and I’ve got many things lined up for these next few months.
What Makes You Different & Why Should Someone Work with You, Lindsey?
I am a very strong leader because I focus my energy on the following four things:
# 1 Building Relationships
I am truly interested in helping people. I also have an amazing support system for those on my team! As soon as a new person signs up under me I have a wealth of knowledge available to them if they want it. I treat everyone with love and understanding. If you take the time to really get to know someone and their problems, they will be a client for life. Showing that you care goes a long way in this day and age.
# 2 Text-Education
I send out weekly texts that provide education not just about the product, but also about the company, healthy living, why someone should pursue building a business, and then once we are a team, tips about how to build and grow. These texts are short and sweet but contain links to more online education if they want it.
# 3 Video Tutorials
I share videos about how to use the products and how to create a business around natural health. A video is an amazing way to communicate, especially when sharing information with a group. I read somewhere that people can retain 95% of a video message compared to 10% of text.
I have to give Yoobly® credit for this idea. At first, the idea of video sounded overwhelming and expensive, but after reading through their course on how to create videos with your smart phone, it seemed much more manageable.
# 4 Being Open-Minded
I am also really open to people building their business in whatever way they choose. I’m not stuck on this idea that people can only host classes in their homes and that’s the only way to do it.
It’s just not true! It can be done through social media, a blog, public vendor events, health coaching, physical therapy, moms groups, church, etc. There are just so many avenues.
I try to encourage people to think about their own natural talents and abilities, and then to use those talents and abilities, so building a business is comfortable for them.
How Did You Find Yoobly?
A Facebook Ad! The Facebook ad sent me to a webinar packed full of ideas on how to recruit network marketers online. From there I was hooked and wanted to know more.
Yoobly is walking the walk because they placed an Ad on Facebook that I know was strategically targeted at folks like me. And it worked!
What Have You Learned from Your Yoobly Training?
Personal Branding. Creating a presence on social media that is you, not your network marketing company. I learned how to have clarity about your talents and skills. I also learned how to put the puzzle pieces together on your personal brand.
The idea that we should be providing a service to others and not push a product or even the company name, is actually still something I work to remind myself of. I’m just so passionate about the integrity and quality of my company’s products that I get excited about that.
But, we need to be offering education and value to others that will help their life right now. So, what I’m intent on doing over this year is offering my knowledge (as a service) to others about creating a healthier lifestyle and creating financial freedom.
What Was Your AH HA Moment with Yoobly?
During the training, my brain was flipped when I learned how to get out from under the umbrella of my company and start promoting myself. I did not understand how to stand out from the crowd and other consultants.
So often in network marketing, you are told to just talk about the products and that’s it. Showing people how you can personally help them is a more effective way to grow your business. You have to get personal.
Yoobly has opened my eyes to what I can offer others and how I can provide value to those in need. Yoobly gave me the confidence to take a look in the mirror and figure out what my unique skills are.
What Successes Have You Had Since Signing Up with Yoobly?
A strategy I learned was how to boost posts or promote ads on social media about my essential oil classes. Their step by step training taught me everything I need to know about social media and running ad campaigns on Facebook to attract new clients to my business.
For those people who could not attend my classes but showed interest, I put them in my sales funnel and email or IM them. They then become good leads for my business. Yoobly’s training program showed me how to market my business on social media and set up sales funnels.
What is Your Favorite Part of the Yoobly Training?
My favorite part of the training is the mentorship that Yoobly provides during the live open offices hours. I get to talk to a real person who can answer all of my questions and brainstorm ideas with.
The motivation that Yoobly provides me to keep going until I reach my goals is invaluable. My business coach has helped me many times to get back on the horse when things don’t turn out like I want. It’s ok to fail as long as you learn something from it.
What Struggles Did You Have Before Signing Up with Yoobly?
I did not want to bug friends and family on social media. My business stalled after my warm market dried up and I did not know what to do. I felt like I was sitting on this hidden goldmine and with no way of sharing it.
I wanted a new way to promote my business but needed help with a strategy to build my business.
Any Advice for Those Struggling in Network Marketing?
My advice for people who are feeling like they can’t do it or want to quit is building a business takes time. This is not a get rich quick thing. You have to be willing to take the time for your business to grow. This requires patience.
Business Owners are like a gardener. Think of a business like a tree. All trees start out the same, from a tiny seed. If the seed does not get watered and nurtured it will never sprout.
If you become impatient over time and neglect the sprout it will wither away and die. In order for a seed to turn into a beautiful thriving tree bearing fruit, it takes time and nurturing.
This is just like a business. It takes time and nurturing to become profitable. Don’t give up before your business has time to sprout and grow.
