People in our industry are funny.
I’d bet 95% or more of the people in our industry are not really serious about their network marketing business.
They join the business and then do nothing.
Or, they get started and quit in 90 days or less.
These are the trends I’ve noticed anyway.
I’ve talked to many successful reps in many other companies and they’ve experienced similar trends in their own businesses.
Everyone wants what our industry offers (time and money freedom), but very few people will ever put in the work it takes to succeed on a grand scale.
Why?
THE REASON MOST NETWORK MARKETERS ARE NOT SERIOUS
Most network marketers are not entrepreneurs, don’t think like entrepreneurs and have never owned a business before.
Most people in our industry spend more time planning their yearly vacation than they do planning their life.
Most people in our industry can’t think past their next paycheck from their job, let alone a few years down the road.
These folks are good people, but are horrible prospects for a business of any kind.
And we wonder why they struggle with their business.

MINDSET IS EVERYTHING
Let me repeat that one time. MINDSET is everything!
“Thoughts are things.”
That’s something I read a long time ago.
I have since realized it to be true.
As Napoleon Hill said, “we become what we think about.”
Learning to think right will have a huge impact in your life and network marketing business.
This means you need to think positive.
You need to believe in yourself and believe in what you are doing.
You need to work on your attitude.
You need to feel worthy and deserving of success.
How you think about your business (and yourself) will ultimately determine how you do in your business.
ACT AS IF
First off, you must “act as if” you have ONE MILLION DOLLARS, or more, invested in your network marketing business.
I know you only spent $50 to $1000 to get started.
That’s probably the # 1 reason you don’t take your business seriously.
But what if you did have $100k or $1 million invested in your network marketing business?
Would you take it seriously then?
Heck yes!
You would be at every event.
You would be on every call.
You would be a prospecting machine.
You would make time to do your business every day.
You would not let anything slow you down.
You would call 40 to 50 people a day minimum.
You would turn off the idiot box (the television) and do the activities you know you should be doing.
Because you don’t have much money invested in your business, you don’t think this way about your business.
Yeah, you’d like to achieve what is possible, but you aren’t “all in.”
You aren’t 100% committed.
You won’t do whatever it takes for as long as it takes.
You dabble with it. You have one foot in and one foot out.
You do the business when it’s convenient for you.
And then you have the audacity to complain because you aren’t making money.
People are funny.
IT’S A LONG TERM PROJECT
Next, you should think about your network marketing business as a long-term project.
All businesses are a long-term project.
This business is not a scratch ticket.
It’s not a Las Vegas slot machine.
It’s a real business.
You won’t have money flooding in overnight, probably not in the first couple YEARS.
In most cases, it’s going to take you several YEARS to build up any type of substantial income.
Considering you are doing it part-time that’s still a pretty good deal.
To succeed, you want a three-year, five-year, ten-year and twenty-year plan.
Yes, a yearly plan.
Not a plan for the next 2 days.
I would argue that if you haven’t been in the business at least two years and already sponsored 100 people personally, you haven’t even started yet.
Just my thoughts.
Simply put, the business must be a priority.
You can make excuses or you can make money, but you can’t do both.
WORK ON YOURSELF
The third thing (or thought) you must do is work on your personal development.
Your business will only grow as much as you do.
If you don’t grow as a person, your business won’t grow.
You have to change.
You have to get better.
You have to become the right person so you can attract success, and attract other quality people into your life and business.
This will not happen overnight.
We all start our personal journey at a different spot.
Wherever you start, you start.
But you have to keep growing.
You must actively work on your personal development.
Learn something new each day.
Find a mentor.
Listen to tapes.
Attend events.
Read daily.
That is key.
Never, ever let a day go by where you weren’t better today than you were yesterday.
FINAL THOUGHTS
To sum it all up, how you think about your business will ultimately determine how successful you become, or not.
You must act as if you have $1 million invested in your business.
You must think of your business as a long-term project, not a short-term miracle to your messed up financial situation.
And you must get better every single day.
Your business will only grow as much as you do.
I hope that helps.

Great perspective Chuck;
I must agree that many of us do not put in what it takes because we didn’t invest ourselves into it 100%. The thought process of thinking we have $100,000 or more invested will surely get us working harder, but I believe it comes down to one simple thing: wanting a better life for yourself and your family.
It is all in the mindset. If we just follow the steps daily without letting outside influences throw us into a negative frame of mind, we are on the road to success.
Very good post sir. Hopefully many network marketers will take it for what it is worth.
For any business to succeed, you need to be all in and do everything in your power to make it successful. There is no free lunch, outside of the school system anyway.
