How to Work by Appointment in Your MLM Business

Today, I want to talk about how to work by appointment in your MLM Business. Let’s face it, many businesses and most professionals work by appointment.

When you want to get your hair done, you set an appointment. When you go need to see your doctor, you set an appointment. When you want your car fixed, you set an appointment. When you want to visit your CPA, you set an appointment.

I could give you countless other examples as well, but I hope you see the point. Yes, some businesses have walk in services available, but most professionals work by appointment.

You should work by appointment in your network marketing business. I think so anyway. This gives you additional credibility and lets people know you are serious about what you do. It shows people that you value their time, and more importantly, you value your own time.

When you talk with your prospects about what you do, your primary objective is to set an appointment with them so you can give them a COMPLETE presentation at a future time and date. You want them to see a complete presentation so they can make an educated decision.

Your job is to sell the sizzle and then let the sizzle sell the steak. The sizzle is the appointment. The steak is your presentation.

What Most Network Marketers Do

What most people in our industry do is puke their information all over their prospect. They try to explain everything they know about the products and the business opportunity the first time they talk with a person.

That is a huge mistake, as I see it. It gives your prospect information overload and makes you look like an amateur.

Your job is to sell the appointment and then let the appointment sell the products and/or business opportunity.

If you get nothing else out of this blog post, please remember that.

How to Set Appointments with Your MLM Prospects

I believe there is a simple series of steps you should follow to set appointments with your MLM Prospects. This is what I recommend.

# 1: Use the Curiosity Approach

Always use the curiosity approach when talking with people you know and meet. Curiosity is what sells. Focus on what’s in it for them. Here is what you could say to your prospect:

Hey Joe, if I could show you how to earn an extra $1,000 per month working 10-hours per week, would you give me 20-minutes of your time?

If they tell you no, end the conversation and move on to the next person. If they have questions or want more info, proceed to step number two.

# 2: Don’t Explain Anything in Detail

Once you use the script I shared above, someone who is interested in learning more is going to ask you questions and want additional information. Most people mess up by trying to answer those questions on the spot. Basically, they talk their prospect into the business and then out of the business, in the same conversation.

You do not want to do that. You could say something like this:

Joe, I can tell you are interested in learning more about what I can offer you. Rather than me trying to explain things on the phone, I would really like 20-minutes of your time in person. I can explain it better that way. How about we get together at 7 pm tomorrow night for 20-minutes?

If the time you suggest doesn’t work for them, set an alternate time and date.

# 3: Verify the Appointment & Get Off the Phone Quickly

Once you have set the appointment, your job is to verify the appointment and get off the phone as quickly as possible. Be in a hurry. For instance, you could say:

“Joe, I just want to confirm that we are going to meet at your house at 7 pm tomorrow night. Our chat will only take about 20-minutes. I look forward to seeing you. Sorry I can’t talk longer right now, but I’ve got to go. See you tomorrow.

Once you have verified the appointment, get off the phone quickly.

How to Work by Appointment in Your MLM Business

Purchase a day planner and set appointments throughout the week. Each Sunday night set aside 60 to 90-minutes of your time to call your prospects and schedule your appointments for the next 7-days. This lets you work smart, keeps you focused and on track, and allows you to manage your time wisely.

Whatever you do, RESPECT YOUR TIME. Let people know you are busy and organized and you don’t want to waste their time or yours. Trust me, they will respect you for it.

Final Thoughts

Working by appointment in your MLM Business is the only way to go, especially if you have a day job and family. Manage your time wisely, or you will be busy getting nowhere fast.

Take pride in what you do. Don’t give your prospects information overload when you first talk to them about the products or business. Always schedule an appointment to give a complete presentation, to follow up, to talk with a team member, or to help someone get started in the business.

  1. I have found this process works the best. If you try to talk to them when they really don’t have the time, they will half listen because they are focused on other things. If you yourself are in a rush you may find yourself cramming in all the information. The prospect won’t understand and you could lose them.

By scheduling the appointment it gives both of you time to prepare. When people don’t show up for the appointment and they do not take the time to let you know they need to reschedule, do yourself a favor and move on…don’t try to chase them down because you will look desperate and they will think that behavior is acceptable.
