How to Stay Healthy When You Work from Home…

I want to give a huge hello to all the readers here at Online MLM Community.

Recently my friend Chuck Holmes asked me if I would like to write a guest post for this amazing website.

I jumped at this wonderful opportunity.

Before I start this blog post, let me tell you my credentials so you understand that I do have an idea what I am talking about.

  • I am a certified personal trainer
  • I teach health and weight loss classes at the Family Medical Center
  • I am an author of 50 Million Pounds In America which is available on Amazon and Kindle
  • I have a Bachelor’s in Communications from Hunter College
  • I modeled in the November 1997 edition of Fitness Plus Magazine showing various exercises
  • I was featured in the September 1997 edition of New Woman Magazine in the article “Getting Physical”
  • I had a promotion in the book “Baby To Bikini” by Greg Wagner
  • I was on the July 2001 “Life Time Live” segment with Deborah Roberts on exercising during pregnancy
  • I finished the Ironman in 2009
  • I was on the O’Reilly Factor in March of 2012, as well as Dateline NBC
  • I have completed 3 marathons

And, the best part of my life… I am a single mom of 3 great children!

I also work mostly from home, so I am adamant about staying healthy while doing so, and I am writing this post to help all of you do the same.

Here are my 7 tips to stay healthy when you work from home…

These tips are in no particular order; I suggest you use them all!

Tara’s Tip # 1: Sleep 

I have heard some people say they can survive on 4 or 5 hours of sleep per night.

Sure they may survive, but I would wager that some of their daily tasks are not completed very well.  And, I doubt they have the right energy levels and mental clarity throughout the day.

Sleep is vitally important to your health.

I have developed a system where I go to the bed at about the same time every night and I arise from that bed at the same time every morning.

It works that way 7 days per week.

You need to make sure that your sleeping environment is relaxing.

Have a comfortable mattress and pillow, and make sure that the lights and sounds are minimal.

If you have difficulty getting to sleep, natural substances like ginger, valerian root and melatonin supplements can help a lot.

Plan your sleep patterns and you will live a more fruitful life.

Whatever you do, make sure you get enough rest each night.  Your mind and body need time to recover and rest.

Tara’s Tip # 2: Exercise 

When you work from home, it can be easy to put off exercising.  Stop procrastinating!  You need to schedule daily exercise.

Plan your exercise for each day.  A few examples include:

  • Walk
  • Ride a bike
  • Jog
  • Do pushups, pullups, squats, etc…
  • Lift some weights

Try to set a pre-determined time to work out.  Look at your work schedule and schedule in time to exercise.  Whenever possible, work out at the same time each day, so you can create a routine and get in the habit of doing it.

Your exercise routine can be simple.  I suggest you get out of the house whenever possible and go to the gym or go for a walk.  Get some fresh air, socialize and see some new scenery.

You could also play sports, walk your neighbor’s dog (or your own dog), or even workout to a DVD program, such as P-90X or Insanity.

Another great thing you can do is exercise for 2-5 minutes at the beginning of each hour.  For example, every hour on the hour, do 10 pushps and 10 jumping jacks.

Tara’s Tip # 3: Nutrition 

Someone once said, you are what you eat.

I don’t think you want to be a Big Mac or a jelly doughnut.

I’m not saying you can’t indulge here and there, but set your diet to a healthy one.

Make sure you eat a well balanced diet and drink PLENTY of water.

I offer many tips on how to eat properly at my blog which you will find at the end of this post.

Tara’s Tip # 4: Routine 

It is important that you set a daily routine.

If you are consistently changing routines, your body and mind cannot adapt.

Make it a routine to follow all the tips I am giving you and learn to make a routine for your home based business.

I know Chuck says this a lot so I am going to plagiarize him… Failing to plan is planning to fail.

Tara’s Tip # 5: Set Goals 

This follows hand-in-hand with following a routine; set goals for your day, your week, your month and the year.

Set objectives to reach those goals.

Set goals for:

Each day, set 1 goal for each one of these categories.

Tara’s Tip # 6: Read 

In the same way we exercise our bodies, we need to also exercise our brains.

Reading is a great way to learn, to relax and to exercise that 6 inches between our ears.

I suggest scheduling a time to read daily for at least 15 minutes; but I suggest 30 minutes or even 1 hour.

You will be amazed how much you can learn by reading books on business, health or other subjects.

You can also listen to books on CD.  This is a great thing to do while you exercise.

Tara’s Tip # 7: Meditate 

My last tip is also extremely important; just take 5, 10 or even 15 minutes to find a quiet place and meditate.

Keep your focus on positive thoughts and feel the power.

Think of all the things you have to be grateful for.  Create some positive affirmations and say them daily.

It does work so use it and meditate the stress away.

Final Thoughts
