How to Promote Your MLM Business on YouTube

In today’s post, I’d like to share some pointers on how to promote your MLM business on YouTube. Before I get too deep into the subject, I want you to know that YouTube is saturated with network marketing videos. You will literally find tens of thousands of MLM videos on YouTube, maybe more!

Fortunately for you, most of these videos suck and don’t get watched. Most MLM YouTube videos are nothing more than a sleazy sales pitch to join someone’s business! They offer no real value, just a sales pitch.

If you can post educational and entertaining videos that your viewers will enjoy, you will stand out in the crowd, and you will generate a ton of qualified prospects for your network marketing business. If you do it the wrong way, you will waste your time!

YouTube is one of the top five most popular websites in the world, getting tens of millions of visitors each day. This means there are plenty of potential “prospects” surfing YouTube, looking for what you have to offer.

But, how do you reach them effectively? What is the best way to deliver your message? How do you get noticed? Based on my personal experience, here is how I recommend you promote your MLM Business on YouTube.

How to Promote Your MLM Business on YouTube

Please know upfront there is a right way and a wrong way to promote your MLM Business on YouTube. My goal is to teach you the right way, so you can save time and money.

Step # 1: Create Your YouTube Channel

First and foremost, you should create your own YouTube channel specifically for your business. This is free and easy to do. Before you actually create your channel, take a few minutes to determine the theme of your channel. For example, will it be about your network marketing company or will you do something geared around the product line, such as weight loss?

When you login to your YouTube account, there is an option to create a channel. You also have the option to name your channel. Come up with something creative and catchy. In addition, add a nice photo of yourself and create some custom artwork for the “header” of your channel. You can hire someone on Fiverr.com to do this for you for as little as $5.

In addition, take the time and fill out the description for your channel, link it to your social media accounts, give it the necessary tags, etc. You can complete this entire process in less than 45-minutes.

Keep in mind that ALL videos you post on your channel should be geared around a central topic, which is the theme of your channel. Do not post other types of videos on this channel.  If you want to post funny videos or personal videos, create a separate channel for that. You can have as many YouTube channels as you want.

If you need help setting up your channel, just go to YouTube and search for “How to set up your YouTube channel?” There are plenty of simple tutorial videos you can watch.

Step # 2: Get An Auto-Responder & Capture Page

It’s vital that you have your own capture page and auto-responder. I see it as non-negotiable. The last thing you want to do is just send people to your company’s replicated website right after they watch your video.

Instead, your goal is to build a list of prospects you can communicate with frequently via email. Take the time and set up a capture page and five to ten emails for your auto-responder sequence. I use Aweber for my auto-responder needs.

At the end of each video, tell people to check out the link below the video to learn more about what you do. People will click on your link, visit your capture page, type in their name and email, and become a lead.

This is the right way to promote your MLM Business on YouTube. If you send people directly to your company’s replicated website first, you are really missing out and leaving a lot of money on the table. Why? Because most people don’t buy something the first time they hear about it. You must build up the like, know, and trust factor if you want to succeed.

Step # 3: Research Keywords

The next step to promote your MLM Business on YouTube is to research your keywords. These are the “keywords” you will create videos about. Think of keywords as potential topics. These are topics people are actively searching for on YouTube and Google.

There are plenty of free keyword tools online you can use to find relevant keywords to make videos about. What I suggest you do is make a master list of 200 to 500 keywords and then make a video about each one. I like to this of this as your YouTube channel blueprint.

Step # 4: Determine Your Posting Schedule

The next step to promote your MLM Business on YouTube is to determine your posting schedule. At a bare bones minimum, you want to post one new video per week. Frankly, I don’t think that’s enough. I honestly suggest you post a new video DAILY for your first year.

That might sound like a lot, but you could make 5-7 videos one day per week, and then simply post one video each day. The more frequently you post new videos, the more your subscribers will revisit your channel.

It’s important to pick a posting schedule that you can stick with. Don’t spread yourself too thin. Maybe you start out posting one video per week for the first few months, and then increase your posting frequency to two videos per week.

Step # 5: Create and Publish Your Videos

When it comes to creating and publishing your own videos, here is what I suggest you do. First off, keep them short and sweet, about three to five minutes long. Have one central point that you want to make in each video and have a clear introduction, message, and conclusion. Have good lighting and good sound volume. You don’t need a fancy video camera, your cell phone will do.

Dress nice, but don’t overdo it. You don’t want to be in your pajamas, but you don’t need a suit and tie either. Consider your audience. I normally just wear business casual myself, such as a polo shirt.

Edit your videos if possible, to make them look respectable and professional, but don’t get stuck in the mindset of trying to make perfect videos. Posting an imperfect video is better than not posting a video at all. Once you’ve made 50-100 videos you will have a good grasp on what to do, and what works best with your audience. Learn as you go and do the best job that you can.

Tips for Success with YouTube Videos

Here are some of my best success tips with video marketing.

End each video with a call to action.  You must tell people exactly what you want them to do or they will not do anything. End each video by saying something like this:

If you enjoyed my video, please like the video, subscribe to my channel, and leave a comment below. If you’d like to learn more about my products or business, be sure that you check out the links in the description box below the video to visit my website.

Educate or entertain. People visit YouTube for one of two reasons. They either want to learn something or they want to be entertained. That’s it. Make sure your videos satisfy one or both of those things or your videos will not get many views.

Make your videos short and to the point. Most people have short attention spans. Three to five minutes is a good length for your videos. Keep them on point. Do not ramble. Instead of making one long video, make several short ones.

Focus on the viewer. Make the video about your viewer, not about you. Show them what’s in it for them. Do that and you will keep your prospect’s interest.

Post consistently. You must pick a posting frequency and stick with it for several years. Don’t make the mistake of just posting a new video here and there. Post new videos every week and never stop.

Use good titles, tags and descriptions. Take the time and fill out your title, tags, and description. Put some serious thought into this. Make the title a headline with a “how to” or something such as Top 7 Ways To…  Fill out a detailed description and pick several keywords that are relevant to the video. This is how people will find your video on YouTube and in the search engines.

Keywords are everything. If you make videos geared around keywords no one is searching for, you are wasting your time. Instead, you want in demand, relevant keywords. That’s why keyword research is so important.

Build your list. This is the most important lesson on this page. Use YouTube as a way to build up your own email list AND social media following. Get an auto-responder and capture page and link to your capture page below every video you publish.

Give people different ways to contact you. Share your phone number, email, Facebook account, and website in the description box of your video. Have more than one way for people to contact you. After all, you are in business and your clients need to know how to get in touch with you.

Considerations

Before I close out this article, I’d like to share some considerations.

First off, keep in mind it takes a while to build your following on YouTube, normally 12 to 24 months. Do not expect overnight results or you will be disappointed.

While you are focused on video marketing, don’t neglect other ways to grow your network marketing business. Keep making new exposures daily and stay focused on the income producing activities.

YouTube should be one of SEVERAL marketing strategies you are using at once, not your only strategy.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, YouTube is a powerful and effective way to generate leads for your MLM business, if you do it the right way. If you follow the advice I listed in this post, you will be well on your way to success with video marketing.

People who watch your videos and want more information about what you do will contact you to learn more. Some of these folks will become distributors and customers in your business.

  1. I have a few YouTube videos up and they got great responses when they first went up. I don’t have 100 yet but I’m going to work harder to get more up and post them more often. I agree that videos are great for blogging and other social media formats. I find that it’s best to not sell anything in the video but rather offer free information in the video. I’m also thinking about monetizing my YouTube channel and so in addition to generating leads it will also become another stream of income.

    1. Yes, using YouTube videos to create your brand, give away free information and educate others is the way to go. You can provide a link for each video so it’s a simple way to send people to a capture page and generate leads. It’s also great to put ads on your videos and create an extra income stream.

  2. I agree that video is a great platform to generate leads and sales. I believe the key is to be innovative. You need to have something that is a little different from the norm. Youtube is highly saturated with Network Marketing videos. I think that using a different video platform may be a good answer to. Some that you can choose from are Vimeo, Flickr lets you upload videos, Veoh allows you to upload larger videos, and I also should mention that a site I write at does have a system where you can upload video “Hubs.” Hubpages.com.

      1. Something I have noticed as of late in many YouTube videos that get a lot of views is the use of what they call stop animation. I believe a person could adapt this technique in their network marketing videos and it could be popular. What they do is use figurines such as Lego men or GI Joes or Barbies. Doing slight movements and putting it all together into a video. Maybe you could have GI Joe and Barbie doing a demonstration of a cleaning product, or something like that. Just a thought.

  3. Great post. I like the idea of putting together a business plan as well. Also, being unique on YouTube is a plus, but try to connect with communities already out there. For instance, if you sell jewelry you want to connect with the ladies already out there in the beauty industry. You can do collaboration videos or have them review your products. It’s important that you know your MLM policies first though.

    1. The network marketing world is saturated on YouTube. It definitely makes sense to find a way to stand out in the crowd and be different. Have a unique selling proposition, good content and a strong call to action and it’s a great way to expand your business and generate leads at the same time.

  4. Thanks for the post. It really does come down to content every time- which is good because it keeps freelance writers like me in business! I am new to making my own videos. Do you use Camtasia for your YouTube videos? Or do you recommend specific software?

    1. I just use a Flip Cam to make my videos and I use Windows Movie Maker, which is a free software program that came with my computer. I’m not sure how to record screenshots and do all the fancy stuff that a lot of people do, but maybe it would be worth me learning.

  5. I am very excited to read this post! I feel like I am being reborn as a business person. The number of times I have dismissed YouTube as a time wasting site! My view was that it has completely nothing to offer, and is only if business value to Google company. I think I will really be glad to see how my venture will take off. This post has spurred a lot of interest in researching the subject. My traditional ideals on business have been grossly challenged, which is good.I think it is really a great idea about ‘going straight to the point’ as opposed to what many people do. Many of the videos on YouTube are exploratory in nature. The call to action bit is also a highlight. I think I am more of a ‘circles’ marketer that will change. However I feel that the idea of long-term is subjective. I believe if it has been working with traditional ways, breaking even, it will be very possible to double that with YouTube. All the same am so excited!

    1. YouTube is definitely a great move for network marketing if you are willing to be different, make lots of videos, post daily and over deliver with tons of great content. It’s also more of a long term project since it takes a lot of time to build up a high traffic channel.
