In this post, I want to share my top 34 ways to get more MLM leads.
This is a big list of lead generation strategies I have tried at one point or another in the past (or presently use).
The real key to success is to pick one or two of these methods and then take massive action for one to five years.
If you try too many different lead generation strategies at once, you won’t get very good results. You will dilute your efforts and end up wasting your time and money. Focus is key!
One last piece of advice: No matter which lead generation strategy you pick, you still need to connect with the person, preferably face-to-face or at least by phone.
You can’t expect someone to just visit your website once and become a customer or distributor without the know, like and trust factor.
This is a RELATIONSHIP based business. It always has been and always will be.
If you aren’t willing to talk to people or follow up with your leads, don’t expect very good results with any lead generation strategy.
These 34 ways to get more MLM leads are listed in no particular order.
If you haven’t done so already, create a free account in Linkedin to let people know you are a home based business owner.
Put your phone number, email and website in your profile so people can reach out to you if they want to.
Make sure you include a good picture of yourself as well.
Write a good bio.
Include your education, interests, job experience, certifications, etc.
The more information you can provide, the better.
Whatever you do, do NOT say anything about MLM or the name of your company.
Stay generic. Your goal is to pique people’s interest and use the curiosity approach.
Once you set up a good profile, your real goal is to connect with other people on Linkedin.
You can search for people with specific interests, connect with old friends and join groups.
You can post articles, videos and even comment on other people’s content.
The options are endless.
There is even a paid advertising option on Linkedin, similar to other pay per click ads.
Remember that people are on Linkedin for business and employment.
It’s a great resource that many network marketers overlook.
Be smart, provide value, and do not spam people!
This is another free and simple way to get more MLM leads.
Most people send at least 10 to 100 emails per day, so this is a quick and passive way to expose your business opportunity and products to others.
Every time you send an email to someone, your signature talks about your network marketing business (or products).
Interested people can check out your link and visit your website to learn more about what you do.
When you use an email signature, make sure you don’t say the name of your company.
Just use a catchy headline and send people to a capture page, so you can generate leads.
3. Update Your Facebook Profile
In your Facebook Profile mention that you own a home business, but don’t mention the name of your business, tell people it is network marketing, or post a link to your website.
If you sell weight loss products, for example, mention that you are a weight loss coach.
Also, don’t spam your link all over your wall or on other people’s walls.
Draw people in rather than repel them by pitching them.
Be positive and don’t bitch and complain, or be negative on Facebook.
Never, ever talk about religion or politics. When you do you automatically alienate at least half your audience.
People are attracted by positive.
Post inspirational quotes, photos and videos that re positive and uplifting.
Your goal is to create engagment and get people to initiate conversations with you.
You can also set up your own fan page or create your own private group.
4. Get Business Cards
You need business cards.
This lets others know you are professional and serious about your network marketing business.
Make sure you have your email, phone, website and other pertinent information on your business cards.
If you can afford it, get a nice quality looking business card.
Also, you might want to make your business card more like a sizzle card, where you have a headline, offer and call to action, such as:
“Learn How to Fire Your Boss.” Call XXX-XXX-XXXX to learn more.
Give your business card to everyone you meet and make sure that you also collect business cards from the people that you meet.
Make it a habit of handing out minimum 10-20 business cards per day.
Do NOT mention MLM or the name of your company on your business cards. Your goal is to market yourself or use your business card like a sizzle card.
5. Drop Cards
I love drop cards.
They are bigger than a business card, but a little bit smaller than a postcard.
A drop card normally has a headline, a few bullet points and a strong call to action.
The purpose of your drop card is to spark someone’s curiosity and get them to call a sizzle number or visit a website.
Some people use drop cards that look like $100 bills.
The options are endless.
Drop cards are inexpensive, effective and very easy to use.
6. Tail Gating
I learn about this method when I was an Avon rep.
This is when you drop the tailgate of your truck, or open the trunk of your car and set up a small table with products and literature about what you do.
You can do this just about anywhere, as long as you get the business owner’s permission first.
For example, you could set up a small tail gating party in the grocery store parking lot, at the flea market, or anywhere else you can think of.
Ideally, you want to be in a place where there is lots of foot traffic.
This attracts people to you.
You can give out samples, answer questions, and even make sales or sign up people on the spot.
I know a lot of folks who do this in Avon and do very well with it.
Online forums are another great place to get more MLM leads.
Try to pick a forum where people at the forum would best match your product line.
For instance, if you sell beauty products, find a couple of beauty forums you can participate in.
Set up your free account and create a signature profile with your link in it.
Focus on answering one to two questions per day and always add value to the forum.
Some of the people who read your posts will check out your link and become a lead.
Just remember, you don’t want to come across as a spammer, so make sure you aren’t pitching your business opportunity or trying to sell your products in the forum.
Just let your signature file do the selling for you.
And make sure your link is to a capture page, not your company’s replicated website.
8. Free Samples
Free samples can be a great way to get more MLM leads.
You could leave samples in public places, hand them out at a flea market, and even give them to friends, family and neighbors.
Put a label on your samples so people know how to get in touch with you, if they want to place an order.
My best advice with samples is only to give them to people who give you their name and contact information first.
That way you can follow up with them in a couple days.
The last thing you want to do is just give out a bunch of samples to people who just want stuff for free.
9. Car Magnet
Get a car magnet and put one on your driver and passenger side door of your car.
Get a magnet with a generic work from home ad.
You won’t generate tons of leads doing this, but some folks will call you to learn more.
I’ve heard plenty of people say they sponsor five to ten people a year from their car magnet (individual results will vary).
Order or create a nice polo shirt with your company logo and slogan on it.
Wear it whenever you can, while you are out and about living life.
Some people will ask you about it, and it’s a great conversation starter.
11. Fairs & Festivals
Fairs, bazaars and festivals are another great place to get more MLM Leads.
You could rent a booth where you can demo your products, generate leads, make product sales, and sign up interested people.
Consider having a contest or free give away, so you can get the most amount of leads possible.
Split the cost of the booth with someone on your team, if needed.
12. Flea Markets
Most companies DO NOT let you sell your products at a flea market.
HOWEVER, you could set up at a flea market to promote your business opportunity.
Or, you could do a generic work from home booth and generate leads.
Lots of people go to flea markets and this can be a great way to have hundreds of people visit your booth.
It also makes sense to approach many of the flea market’s vendors, since they are entrepreneurial by nature.
Even if you aren’t allowed to sell your products at the flea market, it’s still a great way to get more MLM leads.
13. In Home Parties
In home parties are one of the most proven ways to make sales and get new leads for your MLM Business.
Start out by doing a launch party at your home and then book additional parties with excited guests.
The beauty of home parties is that you can share your products with four to ten people at a time, which allows you to work smart and have leverage.
Plus, there is typically a bunch of excitement when you do home parties.
14. Bumper Stickers
Bumper stickers are a cheap and easy way to get more MLM Leads.
You can order a custom bumper sticker for less than $8 and people who read it and like it can call you or visit your website.
Just like a car magnet, use a short and catchy phrase that gets people’s attention and does not mention the name of your company.
15. Name Tags & Buttons
Name tags and buttons are another low cost way to get more MLM Leads.
You should wear a button or name tag everywhere you go.
It’s a good way to get people to ask you questions and initiate a conversation with you.
When I spent some time as a Herbalife rep, they taught us to use a button. It said something like “LOSE WEIGHT ASK ME HOW!” I have to tell you, it was a great way to strike up a conversation with people.
Newspaper ads might not be as effective or as sexy as they once were, but they still do work.
You can start out with your local newspaper and go from there.
Do small runs and test your results.
Try out different ads until you find something that works well for you.
I recommend weekly publications over daily publications.
I also suggest that you promote anything but your business opportunity.
Give away something for free and use a two-step selling process.
Give away a free report, free makeover, free eBook or something, and then let your giveaway introduce the leads to your business and products.
17. Door to Door
This might not be the most effective way to build a network marketing business, and get more MLM leads, but it does work.
Of course, you must not violate any of the “no soliciting” signs.
And you must be prepared for lots of rejection.
But, if you work the numbers, the numbers will work out.
This is probably my least favorite tip on this list, but some people get great results doing it.
It’s definitely not for the feint at heart.
18. Joint Ventures
This is when you team up with other people in non-competitive businesses and leverage each other’s customer base.
For example, if you sell beauty products and your friend sells health products, you could work together at home parties and exchange leads/customers.
19. Team up with Local Businesses
This is another way to work smart, and get more MLM leads.
Find several local business owners and see if you can put some catalogs and business cards in their business.
Offer them some type of incentive to do so.
Offer to promote their business to your customers and team members.
Or, offer to sign them up as a rep and put everyone who responds to the ads from their store, on their team.
You probably won’t be able to do this with any national chains, but it does work well with mom and pop style businesses.
Post some videos on YouTube.
Review your company’s products.
Focus on making videos designed for your target market.
If you are trying to sell lipstick, make videos about lipstick.
Create a separate YouTube channel for your business and create a posting frequency and stick with it.
Make sure you post minimum one to two videos per week, every week.
Keep your videos short and to the point.
Make them educational, not a commercial.
Millions of people watch YouTube videos everyday AND YouTube videos tend to rank high in the search engines.
21. Public Speaking
If you enjoy public speaking, this is another great way to get more MLM leads.
Do a speech about starting a home based business, supplementing your income, or the benefits of what your products have to offer.
Hold a contest so you can collect everyone’s business card and follow up with them at a later date.
Many local groups such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Elks and Kiwanis are looking for speakers for their events.
All you have to do is ask.
22. Craft Show
Consider setting up a booth at a craft show.
Have a nice display and plenty of samples.
Make sure you do a raffle so you can get the contact information of people who visit your booth.
23. Cold Calling
I know this isn’t sexy, but if you have good phone skills this could be a great option.
You could cold call people in the phone book once you’ve verified their number is NOT on the do not call list.
It takes a special person to succeed with cold calling, but it is possible.
I just read a book where the number one recruiter in the company simply called one page in the phone book every single day.
Crazy but true!
Go out and talk to people.
Don’t intentionally go prospecting, but when you are out and about living life, make sure you introduce yourself to people and do some prospecting.
Focus on making a friend first, get their contact information and then call them back a couple days later to mention your products and business opportunity.
Most of us come in contact with at least 50 to 100 people every single day.
If you put a smile on your face, say hello, and stick your hand out, you will meet a lot of great people.
This is the BEST way to get more MLM leads.
Treat your customers and leads well and always ask them for referrals.
Many people will gladly share referrals with you, if they know you, like you and trust you.
26. Trade Shows
Consider setting up at a trade show to showcase your products and business opportunity.
If you can’t afford to set up at an event, at least go to the trade show and meet new people.
That’s probably your best option since it’s free.
Most trade shows have thousands of visitors.
27. Niche Marketing
Know that not everyone is an “ideal” customer.
Segment niches that would most likely use your product line and focus on advertising to them exclusively.
Advertise in magazines that they read, on websites they visit, etc.
Ultimately, you are looking for a niche that is already buying your type of product or service, and they have the money to do so.
28. Host a Workshop
Consider hosting a workshop about the industry, about starting a business, or something related to your product line.
Provide good information and offer your products and business opportunity at the end of the workshop.
Most local libraries will let you do this free of charge.
29. Yard Sales
If you are already planning on having a yard sale, have a table set up that showcases your products.
Give away a free sample in exchange for someone’s name, phone number and email.
Leverage the foot traffic.
30. COOP Ads
If you, or someone in your upline is good at advertising, considering doing a COOP for the rest of your team.
This is where you pool your money together and everyone gets to share the leads.
31. Conference Calls
Consider doing a conference call about your product line.
If you sell beauty products, do a conference call about how to take care of your skin.
At the end of your phone presentation you can let people know that you sell skin care products.
Newsletters are a great way to get more customers and distributors on your team.
Consider publishing a monthly newsletter and email it or mail it to everyone on your list.
For example, if you sell weight loss products, consider doing a monthly weight loss newsletter.
Ask everyone in your warm market if they would like to be on your newsletter mailing list.
When you advertise online, focus on promoting your newsletter and then let your newsletter do the selling for you.
Blogging is a great long-term strategy to get more MLM Leads.
It might take you a few months to get your first lead, but once you get the momentum going, it’s a good way to keep getting new leads every day, for free.
Consider setting up a blog geared around your product line, or the network marketing industry.
This is my primary business strategy and I generate about 10-20 free leads on most days.
It’s a lot of work, but once you have it up and running it works on complete auto-pilot for you.
34. Solo Ads
I love solo ads.
This is similar to a joint venture.
It’s when you send your offer to someone else’s email list.
Prices can vary, but it’s a really fast way to get more MLM leads.
To succeed, give away something for free and use a multi-step selling process.
Make sure you send people to a capture page first, so you can get their name and email and build your own list.
I’d like to thank you for reading my top 34 ways to get more MLM Leads.
What I suggest you do is pick one to three strategies from this list and focus on them exclusively.
To do it right, pick some of the one time things and get those things done (email signature, Facebook, Linked in, etc.) and then pick one active and one passive lead generation strategy.
Once you do that, you simply need to follow through every single day, for a few years, and good things will happen.
Just remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
You will go through a short learning curve before you can expect to get good results, and start getting a steady flow of leads.
