How to Get Better Conversions in Your Network Marketing Business

In most network marketing companies, distributors are simply taught to work the numbers.  Go out and contact as many people as you can until you find people who are interested in what you have to offer.  While doing this has helped many people become successful in our industry, I do believe there is a better way.

Rather than just talking to more people about your products or business, you need to learn how to convert more people you talk to into distributors and customers.  Rather than talking to 20 people to find one new person, what if you could talk to three people to find one new person? Would that excite you?

Better conversions let you work smart and make more money!  Even just improving your conversion rates by ten to thirty percent can make a HUGE difference in your network marketing business!

What I want to do in the rest of this post is teach you how to get better conversions in your network marketing business, so you can work smart, be profitable, and have fun.  These are just some tips and lessons I have learned during the past thirteen years.  They are listed in no particular order.

# 1 Improve Your Skills

Hands down the best thing you can do to improve your conversions is to improve your skills. You need to know how to contact people effectively, how to invite people to a presentation, how to show an effective presentation, and how to follow-up.  You also need to learn how to overcome objections, answer questions, and clearly explain about the products and business.  Learning these new skills will take some time, probably six to twelve months.

Here’s what I’ve found.  If you don’t develop a game plan to improve your skills, and learn these things, it probably won’t happen.  You need to get with someone in your upline and learn these skills from them.  Hopefully, your team has a training manual or training call to teach these skills.  If not, there are plenty of books you can buy to learn these things.  You can also spend some time and watch YouTube videos to learn these skills.   Study scripts, talk with your sponsor and look for a mentor to help you.

# 2 Approach Better Quality People

Another thing you can do to get better conversions in your network marketing business is to focus on talking to better quality people.  Just like any other business, you will have a target market. And not everyone is in your target market.  Think about it this way for a minute.  If you were selling helicopters (as an example) would you try to sell a helicopter to someone who didn’t want one or someone who didn’t have the money to buy one?  I hope not.  As a salesperson, or network marketing professional, you have to work smart and clearly identify your target market.  Once you’ve done that you want to focus on connecting with people in your target market.

# 3 Work on Your Personal Development

One of the best things you can do to improve your conversions is work on your personal development.  You want to improve your people skills, learn how to communicate better, and learn how to get along with other people.  I look at who I am now after 13 years in this industry, compared to the person I was when I first started, and I am nowhere near the same person. That’s the power of personal development.  For things to get better, you have to get better (thanks for teaching me that Jim Rohn)!

# 4 Build Your Belief

Let’s face it, when you are only “one foot in” it’s going to be hard to persuade people to work with you.  I’ve found that if you truly don’t believe in yourself, your company, the products or the industry, your prospect will know it.  So will you.  It’s hard to sell something you haven’t sold yourself on!

You need to be “all in” with your company, products and industry if you expect others to do the same.  My advice is to make sure you find a company that you are EXCITED and passionate about.  After you do that, work on building your belief in yourself.  It will make a big difference when you are talking to people.  If you are someone with doubts, worry and worthiness issues, get some help from a professional.  If you’re not willing to do that, read a few books on belief.  It can make a big difference in your life and business.

# 5 Master the Follow-Up Process

This might just be the most important tip on this list.  You see, most prospects will not join your team right away, even if they are interested.  I’ve found from personal experience that most people need seven to twenty exposures to something before they buy or commit.  By mastering your follow-up process you can convert more people into distributors and customers.  Sure, many of these folks still might take 30 to 90 days to join your team, but you will convert a higher percentage of people by following-up frequently, and doing it the right way.

Final Thoughts

There you have it folks.  These are five ways to get better conversions in your network marketing business.  Learning how to increase your conversions is very important, so you can work smart, get better results, and make more money at the same time.

  1. I admit that conversions is something I struggle with. I have improved my closing skills and do a better job at located quality people. I’m better than I was when I first started but I can always improve. My biggest hangup in the beginning was getting over the idea of selling. I worked as a telemarketer and found out I don’t like rejection, I guess no one does but I really grew to hate the idea of selling. I find that my conversion rates got better once I got selling out of my head and thought more along the lines of promoting a product and sharing an opportunity.

    1. Most people don’t like rejection or selling. The key to a good conversation is to focus on the other person and offer value. Get rid of the mindset of trying to get someone.

  2. I completely agree with your last point, mastering the follow up process. In fact I have actually seen people exposed to something several times and eventually they become a distributor as well. I also think that its easier to get customers than it is to get distributors. However, most distributors usually start off as customers.

    1. Yes, the more you follow up with someone the greater the odds of them becoming part of your team. In many cases, it might take several YEARS to get someone to partner up with you.

  3. I am totally in agreement with all that you said here. I believe the first priority is your belief. Belief in the product and the company, and also belief in ourselves. If we don’t have that, we go nowhere. Improvement of skills should always be an ongoing process. Reading this blog, and many of the self help books will add to our skills, but most importantly, practice. Just getting out and doing what you were taught will make you better at it. When we learn to ride bicycles, we fall off, but we keep getting back on until we learn. Practice makes perfect.
