The Go-Giver Book Review & Top Bob Burg Quotes

Today, I’d like to share some of my favorite Bob Burg quotes from his best-selling book The Go-Giver.

My friend, and top earner, Sonia Magruder recommended this book to me. Because of our friendship, and my respect for her, I bought it the same day. I’m glad that I did.

The Go-Giver is an amazing book that everyone should read, including network marketers. Overall, I give it 5 of 5 stars.

The main thesis of the book is that the most successful people are givers. They help others. They focus on serving others. They provide value. They place the needs of others above their own. That’s why they are successful.

Most people have it confused and think the exact opposite. They focus on themselves, what they want, and how they can benefit. There is nothing wrong with having self interests, but to really excel your career and improve your life, you should start focus on helping others.

You should be a go-giver!

Top Quotes from The Go-Giver

What you see below are some of my favorite Bob Burg quotes from the book. They are listed by where I found them in the book.

Typically, the more successful they are the more willing they are to share their secrets with others.

While some people might think that wealthy and successful people are secretive about their success, the opposite holds true. Most successful people will gladly share their tips and advice with people who ask. They believe in the law of abundance. They gladly help others. You just have to ask.

In fact, most people just laugh when they hear the secret to success is giving.

It’s true. Success eludes many people. At the end of the day, the only way to succeed in life is by giving, serving and helping others. The more people you serve and assist, the greater you are rewarded.

Ultimately, the world treats you more or less the way you expect to be treated.

You get what you expect. The Law of Attraction is always working, either for you or against you. Check your energy levels. Check your thoughts. Check your attitude. Set big goals and expect greatness of yourself. Think big, but act small!

Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

Always provide more value than what you charge people for your products or service. Do more work than you are paid for.

Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

Your paycheck is a direct reflection of how many people you serve and how well you serve them. If you want to make more money, focus on improving those two things. The more people you serve the more money you will make.

Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

The people with the most influence typically get their influence because they take their eyes off themselves and focus on serving others. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. If you want more influence, focus on helping others.

Reaching any goal you set takes ten percent specific knowledge or technical skills – ten percent, max. The other ninety-plus percent is people skills.

Improving your people skills is one of the fastest ways to advance your career. No matter what you do for a living, you must learn how to get along with others. The top managers, entrepreneurs and executives typically have great people skills.

The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

As you give, you must be willing to receive. The more you give, the more you get, BUT, you must be willing to accept what is sent your way.

About Bob Burg

Here’s a short bio I found on Bob Burg’s website.

Bob is the author of a number of books on sales, marketing and influence, with total book sales approaching two million copies.

The American Management Association named Bob one of the 30 Most Influential Leaders and he was named one of the Top 200 Most Influential Authors in the World by Richtopia.

Bob is an advocate, supporter and defender of the Free Enterprise system, believing that the amount of money one makes is directly proportional to how many people they serve.

I was fortunate to hear Bob Burg speak at the 2015 MLM Mastermind Event. He was a great speaker.

  1. Hi Chuck, thank you so VERY much for your kind words about the book, and about me. Very grateful to Sonia (one of today’s top leaders) for recommending it to you.

I’d be remiss to not acknowledge to not acknowledge John David Mann as the lead writer/storyteller, and the man who made the book the read that it is.

    Again, many, many thanks!

    1. Congratulations Mr. Burg on your book!

There are so many great quotes that Chuck highlighted. This book is definitely on my list to buy and read. The inspiration I got from Chuck sharing some of your favorite quotes will help push me through any tough times I experience.

My biggest takeaway is the idea of putting the needs of the other person first. When you help others get what they want, you will naturally get what you want.
