Email Signature Tips: A Simple Way to Get More Traffic & Leads

Today, I’m going to share some email signature tips with you, so you can get more traffic to your website, generate more leads and make more sales. This advice will apply to anyone with an online business, not just network marketers.

What is an Email Signature?

An email signature is a message, or a group of words, that you add to the end of each email, just as you would if you were writing a handwritten letter. An email signature is designed to let people know what you do for a living and how to get in touch with you.

Some people type up this information manually every time they draft an email. Other people create an email signature that automatically gets attached to every email you write and every email you reply to.

Most email programs, to include Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL, let you create an email signature that automatically gets attached to every new email and every email you reply to. It would be wise to use this option.

Why Use Email Signatures?

Most people send out at least ten to twenty emails per day. That means that over the course of a month, most people sent out at least 300 to 600 emails. Over the course of a year, that is 4,000 to 8,000 emails. Many people send even more than that.

Between my six different email accounts I write at least 2,000 emails per month and I reply to at least 5,000 emails per month. Because each of my email accounts has an email signature automatically attached to it, lots of people see my email signature, which happens to be my marketing message. Many of these people who read my email click on the link in my email signature and visit my website.

If you were to use a catchy email signature, you could easily generate more traffic to your website, which will result in more leads and more sales. The best part about this strategy is that it is passive, free, and not “in your face.”  You set up your email signature one time and you are done.

Standard Email Signature

Most people use a standard signature such as:

Even creating a standard email signature as simple as this is much better than doing nothing at all.  However, I believe you can get creative and do a much better job than that.

Example Email Signatures That Work

Here are a few example email signature files that you could use.  Feel free to use these yourself or modify them to fit your needs.  Keep in mind this information would be put in a P.S. line right below your greeting, name, and phone number.

For Weight Loss

I got tired of being overweight and being disgusted with the way that I looked and felt. I had no energy, couldn’t get a date, and I hated the way people looked at me. I decided to do something about so I stared taking this great weight loss shake. Now, three months later I’ve lost 30 pounds and I feel like a new person. Want to learn more?

For Your Opportunity

Most of us are just a payday or two away from being in a big financial mess. If we lost our job, or our income went away, within two to four weeks we would be completely broke. The bills would just rack up. I got tired of living life that way so I decided to do something about it. Now, I have a new side hustle and multiple streams of income. Want to learn more?

Organic Products

Did you know that most of the processed food you eat has toxins and chemicals in it? Many of us are poisoning our bodies slowly without even realizing it. I can’t speak for you, but I want to live a long, happy and healthy life, so I decided to find some great organic supplements and foods to help keep me healthy. Want to learn more?

Healthy Coffee

The average person drinks at least two cups of coffee per day. My friend introduced me to a healthy coffee that has vitamins in it and also helps you lose weight at the same time. I’ve dropped 10 pounds in a month, have a ton of energy and feel great! Want to learn more?

Leads Program

Do you need more leads? If so, you’re not alone. This is something just about every business owner struggles with. To succeed in any business, you need a steady flow of qualified, targeted leads hitting your inbox or voicemail every single day. I found a neat website online that lets you email 80,000 prospects every single day. Want to learn more?

Debt Program

12-months ago, I had $20,000 in credit card and unsecured debt. I was stressed out, depressed, and didn’t know what to do. I was fortunate that my friend Alan introduced me to a company that helps people get out of debt. In the past year, I have eliminated 75% of my debt, built up a savings account, and opened a retirement account. I feel like a new person.

Once again, these would go in a P.S. line under your name and phone number in your email signature. These are just a few examples of an email signature to get you thinking.

Email Signature Tips for Success

Here are some of my best email signature tips. They are listed in no particular order.

# 1: Create a catchy headline.  You need to use something catchy that gets your prospects attention and makes them want to click on your email signature. Make a bold statement and appeal to people’s emotions.

# 2: Make the text bold, italic, or different colors.  Make your email signature file stand out by using some bold, italics or different colors.

# 3: Use a Hyperlink. Don’t just paste your link in your signature file.  Instead, use an anchor text, so your link comes up as words. For example, you could write: “Learn more about this life-changing product” and then turn that into a link.

# 4: Send people to a capture page. Whatever it is that you promote, always use a capture page first, so you can generate a lead, and then have your auto-responder automatically do the follow-up for you.

# 5: Use a tracking code to track your results. Consider using a tracking code in your link so you can see how many clicks you get each month, what your opt-in rate is, and what your conversion rate is. This will let you compare different email signatures to see which ones convert the best.

# 6: Experiment with different phrases, headlines and offers. From time to time, mix things up.  Use different headlines, offers, links, etc. to see what does the best. This is known as split-testing.

# 7: Don’t rely on this strategy alone.  This should never be the primary marketing strategy for your business, but it is a great “add on” or passive strategy.  Combine this with other marketing methods whenever possible.

# 8: Appeal to people’s emotions.  Realize that people are not logical. Instead, they make emotional decisions and then justify those decisions with logic. Focus on hitting people’s hot button whenever you can.

Final Thoughts

In summary, these are my best email signature tips. Whether you own a home business, traditional business, network marketing business, affiliate marketing business, or any other type of business, make sure you use an email signature to get more leads and more sales.

It’s one of the best passive lead generation strategies I can think of, especially if you send out a lot of emails each day.

  1. I have also discovered you can use signatures in other places too. One good example is on forums and chat rooms. If you spend any time at all in forums, having a signature can work. I use one for the books I have published, and it has garnered some sales. Have you ever tried this on forums? Now I need to start using tracking codes more. I have issues with keeping up with statistics, but I need to work on it.

  2. Thanks for this handy piece of advice. I Haven’t really considered having an email signature, and I can see where it would be quite beneficial. The catchy headline will be the main “hook” from what I can see. If we have a great headline, a person will just have to click the link to see. This is where the capture page needs to be catchy too. i also like what you said about using tracking codes; this way you can see what really works so you can keep using it. I am going to give this a try. Thank you.
