Dealing with Adversity in Your MLM Business

Today, I want to take a few minutes and talk to you about dealing with adversity in your network marketing business.

Adversity is a normal part of life.

I don’t like it.

I’m sure you don’t either.

Even though most people hate it, it’s something we must all deal with on a daily basis if we want to achieve great things in life.

Any time you decide to pursue excellence in life, you must stretch out of your comfort zone.

You must try new things and be willing to fail (temporarily).

You see, success is never a straight line.

Things never work out EXACTLY like you think they will.  Most goals will take more effort, more money and more time than you expect.

You take two steps forward and then you take three steps back.

You get five no shows in a row.

Then your best distributor quits and takes their entire team with them to a different company.

Three of your new customers return their product order.

Your mom cancels her auto-ship.

Your new prospects tells you it’s a pyramid.

The hot prospect you thought would join your team posts a bunch of negative stuff about you and your company on Facebook.

Your company shuts down.

Or, your newest goes into the Witness Protection Program.

Can you relate to any of these things?

Every successful distributor I’ve ever met can share HUNDREDS of these temporary setbacks they had to deal with.

These ‘setbacks’ are a normal part of your journey to success.

Have you ever felt like your business journey was nothing but defeat?

You couldn’t get anything to work in your business.

Have you ever said “why me?”

Trust me, I’ve been there.

I’ve had sleepless nights.

I’ve questioned my sanity.

I’ve even had times where I felt ashamed and cried.

No, I’m not proud of these things, but each experience made me stronger.

Adversity can crush you. It can suck the life out of you.

It can feel like the weight of the world is pressing down on your chest and you can’t breathe.

It can make you do crazy things, doubt yourself and even make you question your own sanity.

Adversity can even make you give up on your dreams and return to your comfort zone, the land of familiar. 

I see it every day: disillusioned people and people with broken dreams.  

Some people give up when they experience their first setback.

Others wither the storm for a good bit, but eventually give in.

I learned a long time ago that tough times never last, but tough people do.

Every experience makes you stronger and wiser.

Successful people embrace adversity.  They expect it.  They look forward to it. They think of it as “character building.”

They know that what doesn’t kill you WILL make you stronger.

Successful people know that you don’t succeed your way to success.

Instead, you fail your way to success.

Look at any successful person and you will quickly discover they have experienced AT LEAST ten times as many failures as successes.

I call this the story behind the story.

Sadly, they rarely talk about these adversities and challenges with other people.

It’s a shame that they don’t.

I wish they would share these stories, so people would know they aren’t the only ones going through tough times.

You can learn a lot from these stories.

If you get nothing else out of this short post, remember this.

When the winds blows strong, set your sails.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever go exactly as planned.

Not even your network marketing business.

You will face endless setbacks, challenges and temporary defeat in life and in business.

The only thing that really matters is how you react to these adversities.

Rather than let them crush you, let them challenge you to improve and develop your potential.

Look for the positive in each experience and learn something from it.

Remember that you must fail your way to success.

Temporary failure is fine, as long as you don’t quit.

Twenty years from now you will look back and cherish your failures much more than you do the victories.

Your failures will mold you into the person you need to become to achieve success.
