Chuck’s MLM Weekly Wisdom # 50 – August 19, 2015
Dear Network Marketer:
I hope you are happy, healthy and well. Welcome to this week’s edition of Chuck’s MLM Weekly Wisdom. Enjoy the training.
# 1 Do You Find or Develop Leaders?
This is a question I posted in my Facebook Mastermind Group the other day. There have been some interesting responses so far. I just wanted to take a moment and share my thoughts on the subject.
I personally believe that it’s a lot easier and faster to find leaders than develop them. I believe that a small percentage of the population have already developed their leadership skills, so when they join our industry, leadership is natural to them. This represents no more than 3% of the population, if that.
I don’t believe that anyone is born a leader, but I do believe that anyone can become a leader with training, mentorship, and the desire to do so. Most leaders became leaders because they had the desire to lead others and develop their potential. Other leaders were fortunate to work with great leaders, who inspired them to become a leader as well (that’s what happened to me).
Your goal as the upline leader is to do two major things. Your first objective is to look for prospects with leadership qualities. Look for people who others follow and look up to. These people have INFLUENCE, which is the key attribute of a leader. Sponsoring just one or two of these people will allow you to build a huge organization.
Your second goal is to identify people already on your team who are leaders. These are the people you want to spend most of your time with. Another tip is to identify people on your team with leadership potential, the ones with the most potential, and invest some of your time, money and energy turning them into leaders.
I believe that the people you develop into leaders will be the most loyal to you and stick around with you the longest, because they appreciate what you did for them.
At the end of the day, you only need one to five key leaders to make a lot of money in this industry. Always keep your eyes and ears open for leaders and people with leadership potential.
# 2 Book of the Week
My book of the week this week is “How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling” by Frank Bettger. I learned about this book more than 12 years ago when I was an Amway distributor. This book is pretty old, but the content is still extremely relevant. If you have difficulty sponsoring a lot of people, getting people to make a decision, finding customers, or getting your team members to do much, this is the book for you. There are so many tidbits and nuggets in this book. Read it. Study it. And apply what you learn. Buy a few copies for the people on your team. Order a copy on Amazon!

# 4 Is Duplication a Myth?
I’m about to ruffle some feathers here, but I want to share my opinion (and I would love to hear yours). Everyone in our industry talks about duplication. The word gets thrown around more than any other word I can think of.
People say duplication is the key to success in our industry. I agree that duplication is important, but is it realistic? Does it really happen? Most top earners talk about how they sponsored 100-200 people to find three rock stars who built it big. Most top earners make most of their money from one to three legs. Is that duplication? What about all of the other people on their team who do very little, if anything at all (or quit). How come they didn’t duplicate?
I would argue that you could study ANY top earner’s organization and you would see that a huge majority of the distributors did not sponsor ANYONE, let alone sponsor a lot of people. Look at your own downline for a minute. What percentage of the people you sponsored made it to the top ranks, or even sponsored one person? How many people on your team even sponsored as many people as you did? If you’re like most people, the answer is NOT MANY!
This is what I believe. A very small percentage of the people in your team are going to be successful and build it big with or without you. They are leaders and doers. They find a way and make it happen.
On the other hand, most people will do nothing and quit. Some will sponsor one or two people, order the products from time to time, and get a couple customers. Only a select few will be committed and serious and do what it takes to build it big.
Here’s something else to consider. Take any top earner from any company. Check to see if they built their business the exact same way their upline did. More importantly, look at the three to five most successful people on their team and you will quickly see that they built the business differently from their successful upline as well. In other words, the successful people innovated, not duplicated.
I believe that leaders will find a way to use their natural talents and abilities to build a big business. I also believe that 98% or more of the people in our industry need some type of system and mentoring to follow, if they want to be successful. However, even with a system and good training and mentorship, most people will do very little to build their business.
That is why I believe duplication is a lie! What do you think?

# 6 Quote of the Week
“It took me a long time to understand that the best prospects are the ones who object.” ~ Frank Bettger
My Take: Most people are going to have some type of objection prior to becoming a customer or distributor. It actually scares me when people see the plan and just sign up on the spot. Objections simply mean the person is thinking about the information you shared with them and needs more information before they can make a decision. Embrace objections. It’s part of the selling process.
This is a 10 day attraction marketing boot-camp by Elite Marketing Pro. The boot camp is free. There is an option to purchase a course, which is very helpful, but it is not mandatory. I have purchased this myself. Yes, it is an affiliate link.
I have built my business entirely through attraction marketing. It’s what I do to this day. I learned about attraction from Mike Dillard and Dan Kennedy. I highly suggest you click on the link, type in your name and email and go through the free boot camp. It will be very helpful for you. Learn more about it.

# 10 Developing Your Skills
There is a learning curve in any business. Think about how long it took you to graduate college. Think about how long it took you to master your current profession. Most people spent years mastering what they do to become successful at their profession.
What’s funny is these same people join our industry and expect to be superstars overnight. The truth is our industry requires a unique set of skills that take time to develop. For most people, it’s going to take them three to five years or longer, to really master these skills and get good at what they do.
When you see the people on stage at your company’s event, you are seeing a finished product. You see someone who has spent years in the trenches working on their personal development and mastering their skills. If you want to get to the same level, you are going to have to pay your dues and learn. Once again, this will take time!
There is no shortcut to success. What you need to do is be in the trenches every day (learn by doing), be a student of your profession and have some patience. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Don’t think that you will be an overnight success story. You probably won’t be!
I hope you have enjoyed this week’s training. As always, if you have questions or need help with anything feel free to give me a call or send me an email. Have a great week.
