Whether you are building your network marketing business online or offline, you need to create your own personal brand.
It’s mandatory, as I see it.
You need to realize that most prospects are going to do a quick “Google” search about you, and the company you represent, before they ever join your team or buy your products.
That’s why it’s important to have some type of online presence for YOU and YOUR BUSINESS.
If you get nothing else out this post, remember this: PEOPLE JOIN PEOPLE.
Right or wrong, it’s a reality.
You need to be someone worth joining if you want people to partner up with you.
You need to be a leader.
You need to be a doer.
You need to show people what YOU have to offer them.
The number one question you should ask yourself every day is “why should people partner with me and not someone else in my company?”
If you can’t figure out the answer to that question, you won’t be in business long.
No one wants to work with an amateur or a slacker.
People want to work with the best of the best.
The only reason people would ever join your team is because they believe YOU can help them.
It has little to do with the opportunity itself.
You need to position yourself.
You must have a unique selling proposition.
You need to understand basic marketing principles.
And you must promote yourself not just your company!
Companies come and go, but if you create a strong personal brand you can weather any storm and succeed in this industry for the long haul!
What Is Branding?
If I was going to put it in my own words, I would describe branding as the name of something AND the public perception people think about that name.
Coke is a brand.
What do you think of when you think of Coca-Cola?
Home Depot is also a brand.
What do you think about Home Depot?
McDonald’s is a brand.
What do you think about the Golden Arches?
I can’t speak for you, but I think of McDonald’s as fast and cheap food that is consistent, regardless of which one of their restaurants I visit.
I don’t go to McDonald’s for quality. I go there for low prices and speed of service.
That is their brand.
Why Do You Need Your Own Brand?
You already have a brand of your own, whether you realize it or not.
You might not have put much thought into it before, or wrote it down, but when people think of you, they think of certain things.
Maybe they think you’re a slacker. Maybe they think you are a party animal. Maybe they think you are a cheat.
Maybe they think you are an honest person.
Maybe they think something else.
We are all different, but we are all a brand.
I would argue that if you don’t intentionally choose your own brand, someone else will pick one for you.
That’s the last thing you want to happen.

How Do You Build Your Own Brand?
This is a complex question with a simple answer.
You build your own brand by creating one.
You decide what you want to be known for and then you market and promote yourself that way.
It really is that simple.
When I started my online network marketing journey back in 2009, I wanted to brand myself as the No B.S. Network Marketer.
In other words, I call a spade a spade, get to the point, avoid fluff, and never use hype, pressure or lies.
I am a man’s man.
This works well for me because I am an old Army guy and this is my natural personality.
I knew that it would turn some people off, but I figured it was the best fit for me.
I knew that some would love it, even if others didn’t.
I also knew that I can’t please everyone, so why try?
It makes much more sense to be yourself and be true to yourself.
There you have it folks.
These are my thoughts on branding yourself in network marketing.
Whether you are building online or offline, you need your own brand.
You already have your own brand without even realizing it.
If it’s not the brand you want for yourself it’s never too late to recreate yourself.
