In today’s article, my goal is to teach you how to build your MLM list and also share my top MLM list building tips.
As a network marketer, you have two lists. The first list is your name list. That is the list you create when you originally join your company. It’s everyone you know. It’s your warm market list. That list helps you launch your business and get your business off the ground. It’s an important list you should not ignore.
The second list, and the one that is even more important, is your email list. This is a list of people who “give you permission” to market to them. They visit your website, type in their name and email, and become an email subscriber. This is the group of people the rest of this article is about.
What is an Email List?
An email list is a group of people who visit a specific website, typically a capture page, and type in their name and email to request more information, get a free report, or learn more. When they type in their information, they are automatically added to an email autoresponder, which sends them scheduled emails automatically. They can unsubscribe from these emails whenever they want to, simply by clicking an unsubscribe button.
Reasons to Build a MLM List
Why do you need to build your MLM List? There are several reasons I can think of:
# 1: MLM Companies Come & Go
As much as you might love your network marketing company, there is no guarantee it will last forever. It could shut down or merge. They could terminate you. Since you don’t technically own your downline team, it makes sense to have your own email list. That way, if you ever have to start over, you already have a large following of people you can reach out to.
# 2: You Own Your List
This goes hand in hand with the previous reason. You OWN your email list. It is a valuable business asset. You are in control of it. It’s exclusive to you.
# 3: You Can Generate Multiple Streams of Income
When you have your own email list, it’s like owning your own ATM machine. It will help you generate multiple streams of income. While your focus is building your MLM Company, you can also recommend other, non-competing, non-MLM things to people in your email list. Assuming it would be a good match for them, they benefit by purchasing the affiliate item, and you get a commission for recommending it.
# 4: People Join People
People join people, not businesses. People join people they like, know, and trust. Unless you plan on spending hundreds of hours with each person you meet, which I don’t suggest, I recommend a better option. Use an email list, communicate frequently, and build up the like, know, and trust that way.
How to Build Your MLM List
To build your MLM List, you only need to do a few simple things.
The first thing you need is determine your target market. You must identify which group of people you want to focus on. It could be other network marketers, stay at home moms, small business owners, body builders, herbalists, or just about any other group of people. Pick a group of people that makes sense to you.
Once you’ve chosen a target market, the next step is to create a capture page. This is a simple one-page website designed to get people to give you their name and email, so they can automatically be added to your email list.
The next thing you need is an autoresponder. This is simply a software program that allows you to send out automated emails. Instead of manually sending emails to your prospects, you craft some pre-written messages, and they are sent to your prospects automatically, in a sequence and frequency you choose.
Next, you need an offer. This is when you giveaway something for free, to entice people to join your email list. My target market is other network marketers. I give away a free MLM Boot Camp to generate leads. I have another offer that gives anyone who subscribes 200 free MLM leads. These offers are high value, so people have no problem “opting-in” to my email list.
Finally, you need traffic. This is where the rubber meets the road. You can use a combination of free strategies, paid advertising, content marketing, attraction marketing, and other ideas to flood your website with quality traffic. Without traffic, you will fail. This is the most important step in building your MLM list.
In conclusion, this is the PROCESS to build your MLM list. List building is a combination of art and science. Anyone can learn how to do it if they put in the time and effort.
Top 10 MLM List Building Tips
What you will see below are my top 10 MLM List Building Tips.
1) Focus on a Target Market
I’ll repeat this one because it’s so important. Do not try to prospect everyone. Focus on a targeted group of people “most likely” to be interested in what you are offering them. If everyone is a prospect, no one is a prospect.
2) Use a Good Lead Magnet
The more compelling your lead magnet, the better. Ideally, you want an irresistible offer that people can’t turn down. Come up with something with a high perceived value, so when people visit your website, they just have to have it.
3) Optimize Your Landing Pages
Aim for a 20 to 30 percent conversion rate on your landing pages. The only way to do that is to split test and optimize your pages. Sometimes, just a few small changes will lead to a significant increase in your “opt-in” rate. Run an A/B test whenever you can and keep tweaking and improving your landing pages, until you have something that consistently converts well.
4) Share Your Link Everywhere
Share your capture page link everywhere. Put it in your YouTube videos, social media, email signatures, direct mail, drop cards, etc.
5) Only Promote Your Capture Page
Only promote your capture pages. Do not promote your company replicated websites, ever. You want people to subscribe to your list first, and then you can redirect them to your company pages.
6) Use Tracking Links
Use tracking links for your different lead strategies. Have one link for your Facebook, one for YouTube, one for each paid ad, one for your postcards, etc. If you don’t track it, you won’t know which traffic source is converting.
7) Consistent Content Creation
This is where the magic happen. Create lots of high quality content, do it consistently, and post it all over the internet. That way you have lots of eyeballs viewing your content. At the end of each piece of content, you can have a call to action, sending people to your capture page, so they get your free offer, and get on your list.
8) Master Two or Three Lead Generation Strategies
When you are just starting out, don’t spread yourself too thin. Don’t try 20 different ways to generating leads. Instead, focus on just a few lead generation strategies. Learn everything you can about those strategies. Read books, watch videos, take courses, and whatever else is needed to master those strategies.
9) Try Different Things
As you master a couple lead generation strategies, experiment with a few new ones. Even if you try 10 new lead generation strategies and nine of them do not work, that means you will find one that does work. You can then add this new strategy to part of your overall marketing mix.
10) Email Your List Several Times per Week
As you grow your email list, it’s important to email them several times per week. When you do that, provide valuable, helpful information. Teach them what you know. Showcase your expertise. Position yourself as an expert. This will help build up the like, know, and trust factor.
