Blogging Blueprint for Network Marketers

Today, I want to share my 8-step blogging blueprint for network marketers.  This is a blueprint I have created through trial and error during my five years of blogging.

If you are trying to build your network marketing business online LONG-TERM, I cannot think of a better strategy than having your own blog.

The beauty of having your own network marketing blog is that it works for you 24/7, generating leads and providing multiple streams of income.  It brands you as a leader and puts you in front of a global audience.

That being said, building a successful MLM Blog is no easy task.  There are hundreds of thousands of MLM Blogs online, making the competition fierce.  Standing out in the crowd, getting noticed, getting lots of free traffic, and getting ranked well by the search engines is not easy to do!  Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you.

Blogging is NOT a short-term project either.  Don’t expect any type of results with your blog for at least a year, a probably closer to a couple years.  There are no shortcuts either.  It takes hard work, a solid game plan, some patience and persistence.

That being said, I think you can shorten your learning curve and get better results faster, if you follow some of the advice I share below.  Let’s get started.

1.  Pick Your Unique Selling Proposition

This is the most important step in the process.  You need a blog that is UNIQUE.  Just about every network marketing blog writes about the same thing and competes for the same keywords.  The last thing you want to do is make your blog look and sound like everyone else’s blog.  If I had to choose, I wouldn’t make a blog about MLM.  I would make a blog about your company’s products, or the benefits of using the products.  For example, if your blog sells skin care products, I would focus on making a blog about skin care.  You will have less competition and probably get much better results.  If you do decide to pick a MLM related topic, pick one aspect of MLM, such as lead generation for network marketers, and make your blog about that.  The smaller, tighter the niche, the better off you will be.

2.  Get a Domain and Hosting

You want a shorty and catchy domain name, something no more than two or three words long. Do not use hyphens in your domain name.  Make sure you don’t violate any trademarked or copyrighted words.  Don’t mention your MLM Company in the domain or you will get a call from the company’s legal department.  Also, do not use a free blog from WordPress or Blogger.  You want a self-hosted WordPress blog.  You want to OWN the domain and you do not want a domain that looks like  Those type of domains are very unprofessional and people will not take you seriously.  You can get a domain for about about $12 a year and hosting for about $75 a year, so it is a very low cost investment.

3. Set Up Your Blog

Once you have a domain and hosting, you want to set up your blog.  You want a nice layout that is mobile friendly and looks professional.  You can have a custom theme made for about $100.  You do not want your blog to look like every other blog.  Don’t be cheap in this category.  A good layout that is easy to navigate is paramount.  You can even pay to have someone install the custom theme and set everything up. 

4. Develop Your Site Blueprint

You need a good site blueprint.  Your blueprint will tell you what you will write about.  I suggest you spend about 10 or 12 hours and make a list of AT LEAST 500 keywords that you will write about in the months to come.  Each keyword will become a blog post.  Also, make a list of all the pages you want on your blog, such as an about me page, a contact page, a resources page, etc. Don’t even consider launching your blog until your blueprint is done. This will save you time in the long run and it will ensure you never run out of ideas to talk about.

5. Create Unique, High Quality Content

Content is king in the internet world.  You want content, like this post, that is unique and high quality.  You don’t want a bunch of short blog posts.  You want high quality articles that are 500 to 2000 words each, minimum.  You want to use original graphics and videos and you want to write for your audience, not the search engines.  If you hate to write, you can hire other people.  Just remember that you get what you pay for.  You don’t want writers with English as a second language.  You want people who write informative, captivating and resourceful content that your visitors will love.

6. Blog Daily

You can’t do one or two blog posts a month and expect ANYTHING good to happen.  For the first year, you must do at least one post a day, at least five days a week.  I would make it a goal to do at least 10 blog posts a week or 30 a month, minimum.  The search engines (and your readers) love fresh content.  The more content you produce, the better.  Personally, I can do a high quality blog post in less than 30 minutes, so it isn’t all that time consuming to do.

7. Create an Audience and Loyal Fan Base

The purpose of a blog is to create an audience.  You want a bunch of people who love your writing style, your content, and your blog.  Your goal is to convert these fans into Facebook fans, email subscribers, RSS subscribers, YouTube fans and of course, MLM Distributors and Customers on your team.  You want social media widgets on your blog and you want opt-in forms to generate leads.  Always remember that the biggest asset in your business is your email list!  Your list will be worth more than your blog.  Never lose the trust or respect of your fans and subscribers.

8. Monetize with Multiple Streams of Income

Everyone wants to make more money in their business.  You can make a great income with your own blog.  Once you have a loyal fan base and steady traffic, you want to monetize your blog.  You can use affiliate products, your business opportunity and your own information products.  If you do it right, you will make more money from your blog than you do in your MLM Business.  Your blog can produce three to five ROCK SOLID income streams that diversify your income and give you financial security.   That is what you want.

Putting it All Together

Just remember, it’s not the blogs with the most traffic that do the best.  It’s the blogs with the most loyal fans that do!  I truly believe that even if you could build up 1000 loyal fans, you can make a VERY nice income with your MLM Blog.

In summary, this is my blogging blueprint for network marketers.  Creating a successful blog in any niche is NOT easy and it won’t happen overnight.  If you work really hard, it will probably take two to three years to see any kind of significant results.  However, once your blog is built, and you have a large following, it pretty much runs on auto-pilot.

My best advice to you is don’t neglect your MLM Business while you build your MLM Blog. Keep doing things to build your team OFFLINE, while you build your blog online.

  1. I have a blog over on WordPress and I have been trying to figure out how to monetize it for ages. I am not so much with the technical side of things, (though I am learning slowly). Do you have any advice or links on what steps to take?

    1. It’s hard to monetize a blog if you don’t have traffic. The first few years with a blog should be focused exclusively on building up an audience, not making money. Once you have an audience, you can make money quite easily.

  2. I love this blogging blueprint for Network Marketers. You answered a lot of the questions I had after reading your initial intro to blogging post. I think the selling position is an absolute must. The keywords have been a hit or miss thing for me. I think taking the time to research all the possible keywords that I want to write about first will save me time and keep me inspired to write everyday. Another thing that might be helpful is creating a strong call to action at the end of every post. Ask them to comment or reply and to check out a link or join the mailing list.

  3. For me, most of this blueprint was pretty easy to follow. There are so many sources you can tap for domains, hosting, and site support. What trips up a lot of people, myself included, is #6 – Blog Daily. Sounds easy – right? Just log in and pour out some thoughts. But when this is something that you need to do every single day (or every few days at the very least), it can become daunting. Writer’s block is all too real.

    1. What helps me with blogging in this niche is I am very passionate about it. I have TENS OF THOUSANDS of ideas in my head that I could write about. If you can find a topic that you are passionate about, like I am with my topic, you will always have something to blog about. I am an avid reader and I get most of my ideas from books that I read.

  4. This is great advice. I found that you can buy your first domain and hosting at a very good price through GoDaddy if you check their specials. I would also suggest that you can even create sub domain blogs off your main domain if you have several different products. Blogging is a great way to spread quality information and pick up loyal followers. It can help your Network Marketing business immensely if done correctly. Great post Chuck.
