It’s true, a few people can make you rich in MLM. Study any of the top earners and you will quickly discover that most of them make 80%-90% of their income from one to three people in their downline. Think about that for a moment.
Of course, most of these successful distributors had to personally sponsor 50 to 150 people to find these one to three people. But to me, that sounds like a pretty good deal.
If I told you that there were three gold bricks buried in a huge pile or rocks, would you go look for the gold bricks? I bet you would. You’d be willing to sort through lots of rocks, KNOWING that you will find gold eventually.
When it comes to MLM, you just have to sort through a lot of dirt, BEFORE you find the gold. You have to get a bunch of NOs, have people NO SHOW you, and have people get started and quit.
And you never know when the gold will appear.
The first person you sponsor might turn out to be gold, or you might not find gold until you’ve personally sponsored your 40th person.
Chances are, you’ll have to sponsor a good amount of people (50 to 150) to get to the gold.
I still think it’s worth it.
Another great thing is that if you build your business right, and build depth, you might find these leaders in depth! Even a non-producer can lead you to a maverick! So in some cases, you might not have to personally sponsor ANY studs!
I’m not saying you should knock the little guy. You shouldn’t. You should treat EVERYONE on your team with respect.
But, you always want to keep your eye open of the leaders, the people with a big, burning desire, a large sphere of influence, and a can do attitude (the gold).
Trust me, these people will identify themselves! And when they do, make sure you are there to support them. They probably won’t want or need your help, but if they do, be available.
The bottom line of this post is that a few people can make you rich in MLM. It’s very true. You’ll have to sort through a lot of dirt to find the gold, but it’s time well spent.

Chuck mentioned not knocking the little guy. I want to expound on this. Even if you do not have “super stars,” the little guys can also make you rich. If you sponsor 100 people and they all do just a little, and they are all on auto-ship, you can collect some nice royalties. It may not be “riches” per say, but keep sponsoring and when you have 500 little guys, I would bet you will be living comfortably without having any super stars, but the odds do say that out of those 500, you are apt to have a couple of MLM studs.
98% of the people in our industry are the little guy. They are the cornerstone of success.
Indeed I totally agree with this post. I am really challenged by the fact that majority of the income will come from two or three people. Probability tells me that given a good taste of down-lines, I really do not need to look at the numbers much. The idea of finding two people to sponsor each day also seems palatable. Is there any post detailing the qualities of a good lead. Or should I just do a wildcard the guesses in selecting prospects in the hope that 20% will be efficiently growing my chain? What is your view on this?
Chuck has written a number of great posts on making good leads and qualifying them. You should be careful of over qualifying or pre judging people based on if you assume they will be a good prospect. You can garner leads from multiple sources. Read through this whole blog and you can find a lot of great material that will help you with this. I suggest looking at the categories on the right side of the page; this will take you to the subject matter you are searching for.
