A Common Mistake That Network Marketers Make

One of the most common mistakes that network marketers make is not staying in touch with their prospects on a regular basis.

They talk to someone ONE TIME about their products, services, or business opportunity, and if they hear the word NO, they forget about the person and move on to the next prospect.

Whatever you do, don’t make that mistake!

You need to realize that many of the folks who tell you NO today will tell you YES at a future date IF you stay in touch with them on a regular basis, and treat them well.

You see, the timing in people’s lives changes.  Today, they might not be ready to take advantage of what you have to offer. But who knows what the future will bring?

They might get a new, crazy boss.  They might get divorced.  They might lose their job.  They might relocate.  They might get sick.  They might get bored.  They might retire.  They might develop new goals.

Whatever the reason may be, when the timing changes, they will be ready for your products or business opportunity!

But the only way they will ever join you is if you stayed in touch with them and treated them well.

So make sure you do a few things.

First and foremost, have a long term plan for your business.  stick with your company and don’t quit.  Make it a point to commit MINIMUM five to ten years to the same company.  If you’re not willing to do that, there’s no point to even start a business.

Next, start collecting the contact information of everyone you come in contact with.  At a bare bones minimum, get people’s name, email, phone number and mailing address.  Add these names to your contact manager.

The next step is to keep in touch with EVERYONE on your rolodex at least once a month.

Send out a monthly newsletter in the mail.

Call each person just to see how they are doing, without trying to hard sell them.  Send periodic emails just to see how they are doing.  Send holiday and birthday cards. Send a handwritten note.

Doing these little things will work wonders in your network marketing business.

People will start calling you!

People will start joining your team or buying your products without you even asking them to!

People will see that you are serious and that you are a leader and they will be attracted to you and want to work with you.

How does that sound?

Remember, your biggest team builders five years from now will be people who told you NO initially.  Many of your best leaders will tell you NO twenty or thirty times before they ever join your team. Chew on that!

Act like a smart network marketer and stay in touch with everyone.

Build a huge rolodex of names.  Be a network marketing professional and have a game plan to stay in touch often.

most common mistake mlmers makeShow people that you care.  Show people that you know what you are doing.  Show people you are serious.  Show people you are different from most people in this great industry.

Do that and your team will grow.  Don’t do it and you will keep struggling.

Just to clarify, I am not telling you to bug people or HOUND people or pressure people. You should never do that.  Just stay in touch in a low key, no pressure, no hype, no bullshit type of way and you will be fine.

Show a genuine interest in others and you have nothing to worry about.

  1. Long term personal relationships are usually more rewarding, so why wouldn\’t the same be for professional business relationships? The longer a customer remains a customer, the more profitable they become, and the longer you know them, the easier it is to give them personal treatment. So there is no excuse not to treat them well. Just stay in touch: send a birthday card or email, or a thank you note for each order. Pay attention to special dates in their lives. Make them feel special (because really, they are).

  2. Chuck, this was a great piece of advice.

I believe that a person needs to use common sense and know that people want friendship, not another person trying to get them in their business. By just staying in touch, most people will take this as friendship. They may still say no, but as Chuck stated, things change and they may say yes. They cannot say yes, if you are not staying in touch with them. I believe a monthly newsletter is great advice.
